Nadia Petrova meant business when she stepped on the court this morning. She only needed a total of 54 minutes to defeat Anna-Lena Groenefeld for the second time in as many weeks. The Petrova serve was just completely dominant today. Petrova only lost a total of 8 service points in the entire match.

The head-to-head between these two players is not at a 6-1 advantage for Petrova. Up next in the second round, Petrova will take on veteran player and countywoman, Elena Likhovtseva. The head-to-head is tied at 3-3 between these two players. The last match was a steamroll by Petrova, so I do expect her to win this match in straight sets. There might be a tight first or second set, but Petrova will be victorious with her current form.

What made you think the H2H was a 6-1 advantage for Petrova?

Anyway Zvonareva beat Kuznetsova 6-1 6-3 so that opens up the draw a bit for Nadia :)

Great job against Groenefeld :yeah: Lena L crushed Camerin 6-0 6-1 but considering Nadia's current form she should beat her in 2 sets.

so far so great for naddia - pleased to see her at top competetive form again.
could win the dubz as well which is nice because both she and kuzzy have stopped thier doubles ambitions lately and together they might start it off again.

Nadia Petrova has made it to the semifinals of the Ladies Kremlin Cup without dropping a set. This morning she defeated fellow Russian, Vera Zvonareva 7-5 6-1. As I had predicted in my analysis, Zvonareva completely lost her mental composure after losing the fist set. Nadia took full advantage of Zvonareva's meltdown and broke her serve every single time in the second set.

Petrova also played a doubles match with Svetlana Kuznetsova. Unfortunately Nadia had to retire from that match with a pectoral muscle strain while being down 3-6 1-3. Hopefully the retirement was just precautionary and nothing serious. Tomorrow Nadia will take on Nicole Vaidisova who defeated world number one Amelie Mauresmo in a tight third set tiebreak.

The match will definitely be the biggest test for Nadia thus far. She has struggled against Vaidisova in the past and I don't expect it to be any different tomorrow. Both ladies have a huge serve and very powerful groundstrokes, but Nadia has the better movement. Nadia can win this match in straight sets if she somehow finds a way to frustrate Vaidisova mentally. Vaidisova can also have mental lapses when things are not going her way.

Prediction: Nadia in three sets 6-4 3-6 6-2
