Benesova isn't a joke. I know she hasn't been playing well lately, but the girl has still got some game when she's confident.

when was the last time Benesova won a match in a Tier II or higher ?
EDIT: looked it up
she beat French WC Parmentier @ Roland Garros and WC Ancic in Miami
she beat slumping Vento-Kabchi in Antwerp

Yay a rare win for Iveta this year. I actually thought she might win this match but not by retirment of course.
Hope Schiavone is okay.

Iveta Benesova is known to play better agst higher-ranked players: prepares herself well and stays focused. When she's playing down, she takes less care to prep: parties the night before, barely warms up, and tries too often to "wing it". This year, she dispatched Mary Pierce at the AO and played very solid sets agst Mauresmo in Antwerp. Her tactic is sound too: get ahead early and stay ahead. This match the was the same: up 3-0 in two of the sets. Well done Iveta :yeah:, regardles Fran's wrist injury. Wish Schiavone speedy recovery.

does anyone know how she got the injury? was it progressive? or did she fall on the wrist? it all seemed very sudden, so i was guessing a fall maybe?

Poor Francesca... She really has had a tough few days.
Get well soon!! (I REALLY want her to win a tournament, and hopefully very soon indeed!! :) )
All the best to Iveta for the rest of the tournament.

Fran    Guess I'm not really surprised. I just hope this injury doesn't affect you in Moscow. That surface is perfect for her game. And I'm confident she would reach the final and lose :)
