... important matches/matches against top-players but usually end up losing them.

There are quite a lot right now. Unfortunately I like the games of most of them. :o

Santangelo
Srebotnik
Peschke
Schiavone

Just to name a few.

Any more?

Hantuchova, always choking when she's up in the match. You won't find a better example, sadly...

.. and at her best has the game to beat all the top players. Hard to believe, not long ago she was Top Five!

yeah, she had a lil serie before RG with a match point against Momo, a thriller against Kim, and in a different way, the injury against Maria.

Yup plus she has lost close ones to Dementieva twice and Myskina once last year. And at this year's US Open, two tiebreaks with Maria

Definately Golovin. Didn't she take Mauresmo and Clijsters to three sets this spring? Then there's the Sharapova match in Miami, even the one at USO was close - I think she almost beat Petrova earlier this year as well, before her victory against Nadia in New York.

She owns Nadya :o. She has never lost to her before.

Tati has close matches with Amelie and Kim. Then @ IW, she lost to Gise after leading 6-1 5-2 (or 5-3) :o Then the classic match with Maria before she got injured. After the injury, she struggled for a little bit until Fed Cup where she had a close match against Nicole V who just came off from RG semifinal.

Then also again Sveta @ New Haven. She had 2 BPs to lead 4-1 but blew it and lost the match. Then another close match against Maria @ USO.

Too many wasted opportunities for her. But once everything click together and once she decides to learn to close a match, she could crack to top 10.

Jennifer Capriati. Oh my goodness, that girl has choked away several matches (Henin-Hardenne USO 03, Serena Wimbledon 03, Venus Miami 01, Sandrine Testud Year-End 01, Henin-Hardenne Wimbledon 01).

Elena Dementieva at times, especially if she's won the first set. Poor Kimmie for a while.

(BEJING 2006. SF) vs. A.Mauresmo 1-6 6-3 6-5 (serving for the match) lost 3-7 in tie-brake

Last year Martina was close to winning 2 important matches involving top 10
(Kuzzy at Miami,Mauresmo in Berlin,Venus in Warsaw(but Venus wasn't top10 then))

For me the heart-breaking loss was AO 2002 for Martina...she won the first set 6-4 and was leading Jennifer 4-0....I was so confident she was going to win I would have bet my house on the outcome....then the match did get closer but again she did manage to squander 4 championship points AGGGH!   Granted the heat did affect both players:o but that one loss  was a killer:rolleyes: :p but you had to congratulate Jennifer in the end...she toughed it out while Martina wilted in the heat:help:!!

I know that you are a deep fan of Jelena. But she cannot be the winner of each contest !;) There are many players that choke more often than her. Tati is the perfect example. Jankovic recently defeated several top players, which is not the case of the others quoted.

I'm so stunned that you hadn't forgotten Sandrine :)

She is like 0-15 against Hingis, but EVERY match was very close!
She still is one of my faves.

Kveta chokes often, too.
Most famous choke of her R16 Wimbledon 05 holding 2MP against Petrova at 7-6 6-6 and then losing 7-6 6-7 3-6:sad:
Also, her loss against Bondarenko in Luxembourg SF was bitter:sad:

Ai always seems to win a set against top players and then fade away. Or then she comes really close, and chokes it away. As of late, anyways.
