A similar thread has been started... and for 05 it was pretty obvious... it was Kim, then Amelie... and now...
who do you think is the best player overall not to win a slam?
(not that you necessarily think she will win another)

Patty of course. She's the most talented player without a GS title.

Elena Dementieva's the only one who's reached a slam final before (twice even!) so she gets my vote :)
Oct 3rd, 2006, 05:07 PM
Elena Dementieva of course.
Two finals but nothing, perhaps in 3

Lena no question none of the other have been in a slam final that counts for the most, she's competed at the YEC every year this millenium which no one has done beaten everyone there is to beat (except Serena) and has been in the top ten for the last 3 or 4 years straight

but not for long dementieva will a slam soon
Oct 3rd, 2006, 05:35 PM
Dementieva - not sure if she will ever win a slam but she certainly has the talent. 2nd IMO is Nadia Petrova in the form she was in at the start of the year, not in her current slump-form.

If you’re talking selection based solely on pure natural tennis ability then it has to be Patty.
Of the others. Unless Jelena Jankovic can get it into her head that you play the best of three, not two sets in tennis. Then she be the habitual “quarter-semi-finalist”. And if somebody can stop Ana Ivanovic munching her way through “Charlie’s chocolate factory”, then she’s in with a shout. As for Nicole Vaidisova, don’t go there.

I just go after talent not after what they achieved

LenaD, no contest.

Peng of course. She's the most talented player without a GS title.

Where's Anne Koethavong on that list? She is obviously the best player without a slam, come on!
Oct 3rd, 2006, 08:28 PM
Jelena and Elena

Elena Dementieva deserves a Gc.

Rubin. She would have had the results Elena does if her career hadn't been besieged with injuries. Ah well, that's life.
Of those listed, I think Patty's the most talented of the bunch, but she's a headcase; and since part of the criteria for being the "best" player must be mental strength, I can't pick her. Since Elena's results are miles ahead of the others, I guess she's the logical choice (though I will say that comparing her to Ivanovic or Vaidisova is silly since they're at completely different stages in their careers).

Dementieva. No contest.
Oct 4th, 2006, 01:29 AM
with a solid serve she would have had 3 or 4 slams by now.
Oct 4th, 2006, 01:35 AM
Elena is the best without a slam.
Elena's serve is getting better! Next year I predict that she won't have the Double Fault crown! However, Elena's game and a neutral serve should be enough to make the difference!
Oct 4th, 2006, 02:58 AM
Elena, most definitely... And hopefully that will change soon! :rocker2:
Oct 4th, 2006, 03:01 AM
She's so talented!
Go and get that GS you deserve
Oct 4th, 2006, 03:03 AM
Dementieva deserves one.

Dementieva. Who on that list do I feel has the best chance to win a slam in the next year? Safina, actually.
