It's all fucking Jens's fault, I'm sure.

Please get well and come back Nastya. The tour needs your f-bombs, tossed rackets, goofy interviews and unpredictable results no matter what that ass Bud Collins says.

Awesome post. I'm in 100% agreement. She's one of the true characters on the WTA. Losing her would be a real shame.

But, and yes I am admitting vast amount of ignorance here, what did Bud Collins say this time?

My WTA source says the injury is not as bad as this thread suggests. (Maybe Eggy can confirm that). Though she will miss Moscow, which must be a big letdown.

Nastya! :awww: :tears:

Get well soon! But I also think this is about her reevaluating her career. The break should do good for her mentally and emotionally. Hope she decides to stick around for a few more years.

Oh, I'm sorry I'm not being a good poster and tracking the thread down, but there was an article posted here about the WTA being boring. To me, it sounded like a case of sour grapes because Americans aren't dominating the tour right now.

In it Bud Collins said something along the lines of "It's hard to get behind players like Myskina and Dementieva." I mean really, Bud, did you just WANT to PISS ME off?

Frankly, I think that just goes to show it's time for Bud to retire. Myskina for reasons cited above, is one of the nicest, most entertaining players on the tour. Dementieva, while more reserved, shows flashes of a wicked sense of humor, a keen intellect and hers is a rags-to-riches story to rival anyone else on the tour (see her stories about washing balls, not having a racket of her own, Mommy Vera sewing her outfits, etc).

I mean, I can understand why Lena D. and Myskina might not be your favorites,* but boring? As Nasty herself might say, "No fucking way."

*I'm sorry. That's a lie. Everybody should love Nasty and especially Lena D. Everyone I say!

Oh, poor Nastya.
I think I remember reading something on the eve of the USO that she was having issues with her foot. At least she knows whats wrong and can treat it. Maybe that has/had something to do with all the retirement talk.

These injuries come out of nowhere. I hope she doesn't retire, she was the most amusing players to watch, I have always like her game and her character on court. It always made me laugh when she'd start yelling at her coach.
Get well soon.

And what sucked MOST about it (well, for me ... not for her, necessarily) is that I was convinced that she was going to get back on track and really kick some butt. I really felt it.

Man, I hope she doesn't retire.

I am very bummed but for large parts of the this year it didnt seem like Nastya was enjoying her tennis. Now that this has happened my big hope is that during her time away she comes to miss playing and that reinvigourates her for next year. Surely it will be tough for her to see Moscow knowing she isn't taking part.

She was having more and more trouble with her foot in her last few matches. this is either someone diagnosing/trying to treat a problem they left or its new/aggrevated. probably a bit of head clearing going on too.

Hopefully she can get it better and then if she has a look she will see that half he top ten are Russian and 4 of them are players she can beat and the fifth is probably beatable on the right day and surface.

Incidentally, I'm not saying she should (or shouldn't) play, as I don't know the how fully healed she is. And of course she could still withdraw if it hurts too much in practice, or retire in an early match. I was only saying that she was projected 2B well enough to try here.
