You can never predict how a match works out but yesterday the organisers should've looked at the weather and started play a 7pm instead of honouring Navratilova. Judging by how the match progressed yesterday those 30 extra minutes most likely would've been to enough to finish the match. Instead their stuck with this now. This might also mean we'll have no live coverage of the match on Eurosport if it doesnt start close 1pm.

OK

Hey guys, this is my 1st post :wavey:

Can anyone tell me what would happen if it rains tomorrow all day?

Like, is it possible for the tournament to simply be cancelled?

With other tournaments starting in just 2 days, if it rains tomorrow then basically, what choices do they have??

Thanks in advance :)

In Scottsdale 2000 the final between Martina and Lindsay was abandoned when rain prevented any play. I would assume the same would happen here if they weren't able to start the final tomorrow.

I really hope that they are able to play the final. Good luck Martina :bounce: :bounce:

Well if that is the case, what about poor Martina & who would be the winner of the tournament? Or would all the matched just be cancelled completly. That would really suck & I want to see Martina win this one!!!

Just checked weather.com and it appears that there may be a 2-3 hour window from about 1-3 when it won't be raining. Rain seems to be very likely the rest of the day. So they might get lucky and actually complete both the singles matches today. But it doesn't seem likely unless Ana can run off the next 3 games, rest up and then get right to the next match.

Anyway Im sure there are some indoor courts with similar or the same surface in Montreal. Can't they play indoors? I know few weeks ago at some challenger it was raining heavily so they moved indoors and it was no big deal. Hardcourt tournaments have got to get covers on their courts! It's ridiculous. Even if the rain were to stop it takes an hour just to dry the court.

At the Acura classic they started an hour late a few days because they were trying to dry the court of the morning dew. The only equipment they had were 3 towels and th gardening crew's leaf blowers.

Hingiswinsthis
Aug 20th, 2006, 05:19 PM
You know, this is tough for Hingis as well to be kept waiting and waiting. Her opponent will need no practices, no warm-ups as either Ana/Dinara will be boosted with confidence that they have won a match an hour or so ago (Ana maybe 3 games), (Dinara a set and half).

Hingis is the one that needs to focus in the final, she may be playing a player that is hot already and firing on all cylinders because they feel they have nothing to lose.

It's 50-50.

You needs to understand that there is no TV instalation in indoors and there is NO WAY all the people who buy tickets could watch it. And also, I don't know if i'm wrong but I think the indoor instalations are for VIP, Players Louges, etc.

So they can moves all this indoor but with no TV and no spectators...

Honestly there is one court indoors that has the possiblity of people being able to watch it. The other 11 courts are just not watchable. And about only 10 people could watch that court to begin with.

I would like to know what Safina is thinking right now. This tourney obviously has pretty big US Open Series implications so pretty sure they would have to play it through. She is in the semis in both singles and doubles and she is down a set and on serve in the second with a commitment to playing New Haven. I would hope they would at least complete the Safina/Ivanovic match but I am not even sure that's going to happen?

Any updates?

1:30 repo:confused: rt from CBC TV....the soonest it wil restart is in 1/2 hour....45 minutes. Bit the forecast is for t-storms all afternon.

I don't know what the regulations are for dealing with all of these matches ...Dinara has to play to-morrow in New Haven. Quite a mess.

the court looks very wet, no one in the stands.

JSeles

The semifinal and the final will be played for sure.

It's still raining right now in Montreal. This morning, tournament officials have decided to cancel the session 14 (Saturday night semifinal) so it will be played during the session 15 (final) today if the rain stops. If not, they will postpone the match and play it tomorrow. The weather forecast is good for tomorrow.

I don't know what Dinara will do but I am pretty sure she will pull out of New Haven if she wins her semifinal against Ana and has to play the final tomorrow. Ana and Martina did not enter next week's tournament so it's not really a problem for those 2 players. However, other players scheduled to play in New Haven are still waiting to play their doubles match (Petrova, Groenefeld).

By the way, ticket owners for session 14 can ask for equivalent tickets for next year.

No offense taken. I want Ana to win very badly too and am pretty nervous. That delay helps Safina cause Ana was beginning to seize the momentum in the 2nd set. Hopefully Ana comes out serving like she started the match yesterday.

I don't believe there is an indoors. unless they move it to a private club. As thiungs stand Dinara would have ot play 3 matches in a row if she wins the semi, 2 .

There are some indoor courts at the Uniprix Stadium where the tournament is held. However, the officials confirmed this morning they won't be playing singles indoor. The semifinal and the final will be played outside. However, the doubles competition COULD end on indoor courts.
