did anyone else notice that in the canada match Tati changed her service motion again? it looks more like the style she had in 2004-5, a little more fluid than it was before. hopefully it will be a good thing if she sticks with it, a more fluid motion means that there are less things that could go wrong with the serve.

best of luck in New Haven Tati.

yes but hopefully this new motion will result in less problems in the future. her serve didnt let her down that much against ivanovic, it was her ground strokes that looked bad.

i think it's going to be a shitty draw no matter what. even the qualifiers are tough. the best that tati can do is someone who hasn't played much and might be a little rusty.

selyoink
Aug 18th, 2006, 03:16 PM
I think it is pretty much impossible for Tati to get a good draw. When Jie Zheng ranked 27 in the world has to qualify you know the field must be strong. Tati should really hope for drawing Petrova, Davenport, or Nastya. All are out of form. Obviously I'll be mighty pissed if she draws Nastya though. But that would be one of her better chances at winning in the first round.

What do you expect, though? She won, she fought hard enough to take it to a third set when she could easily went down in two. She ain't gonna get a coach between now and tomorrow either, she's probably not going to have one for the US Open; so all she can do is go out and try to win. 7 DFs in 3 sets? big deal

Lol. Someone is in pissy mood.

K I'm being harsh on Tati, but Tati's being stretched to three sets by Molik (who is hardly a top player since her return from injury) and almost blowing 4-0 lead is hardly encouraging result at all. She does need to step up her level if she plans to stay longer at New Haven and New York. And a coach does make a difference, especially after this new rule is implemented.

And here's another person's match report regarding Tati.

(Tati) not good at all IMO. Of course, Alicia started spraying balls later int he second set and in the third, so she played even worse than Tatiana at that point. Just wondering about Alicia whether she gets fatigued quickly now that she has this condition.

Golovin rallies after Molik's serve falls apart
Jim Fuller, Register Staff
08/21/2006

-NEW HAVEN — With all the innovations coming to the Connecticut Tennis Center for the 2006 Pilot Pen Tennis tournament, perhaps there was room for one more. Move aside instant replay; maybe the WTA’s on-court coaching experiment could wait as well. How about allowing for the declining of serve?

Certainly, it would have worked wonders on Sunday, when Tatiana Golovin and Alicia Molikin put on a rather forgettable serving display in their second-set tiebreaker.

Molik, already with a set in her back pocket, stepped to the service line five times and failed to win a point. Golovin, who squandered a 4-1 lead in the set, fared only slightly better by winning two of five points on her serve. But it was enough as she won the tiebreaker and then went on to take the match 4-6, 7-6, 6-3.

"I hoped to put her in that position enough times and she would be going for it on her second serve when I played aggressively," Golovin said. "That is what I tried to do."

Golovin was broken in her first service game and Molik took advantage.

When Molik ripped off three straight games to rally from a 4-1 deficit in the second set, she appeared to be closing in on her first win over a top 50 player since April of 2005.

Then her serve began to desert her at the most inopportune time.

"I think the most disappointing thing is what I did on my serve. I let myself down in the breaker," Molik said. "I felt like I was always fighting myself. I was second-guessing what direction I was going."

Molik, who peaked at No. 8 in the rankings in February of 2005, has been sidelined by an inner ear infection for large portions of the last year and a half. She is back, feeling healthy and looking for that one big win that will send her back up the rankings.

"I am healthy and ready to go," Molik said. "I am doing all the right things. I had rhythm. A match like that can be decided by two or three points. I am getting myself in position time and time again. I would like to be playing in a match situation every day. I am working extremely hard. Tatiana played really well. She played a real solid match."

Golovin next moves into the second round to face the winner of the Svetlana Kuznetsova/Jill Craybas match.

Found another article.

France's Tatiana Golovin rallied to defeat Australia's Alicia Molik, 4-6, 7-6 (3), 6-3 on Stadium Court to advance into the women's second round.

"I was focusing on my serve, because she was putting a lot of pressure on my serve," Golovin said. "It was more of a mental battle than a tennis match." While Golovin's consistency increased as the match wore on, Molik struggled to find her range. In fact, three consecutive Molik errors enabled Golivin to secure an early break in the third set.

Molik, who consistently served around 110 mph, fell behind by two breaks when she committed three more errors in the fifth game of the set. As big as Molik's first serve was, Golovin feasted on the Australian's second serves that ranged in the 90s. Golovin, ranked 26th in the world, earned three match points when she punished a second serve return before ending with an inside-out forehand putaway.

"I figured I was going to lose on her serve anyway, so I might as well go for said Golovin, who could face Kuznetsova in the second round. "I was thinking maybe she'll double fault because of it. I was trying to be aggressive and come in."

There's article about Kuzzie that I read, saying that after her first set loss to Jill, her coach coached :tape: her to play different tactic and it paid off.
I hope Tati at least has Nancy as her 'coach' :tape:

So it seems that Tati was playing well and she had a coach , this is what NyCPsU reports:

i watched this whole match
best of the day imo
both players played great, even in the first set

felt bad for tati because even though she was bagelled she was playing well but kuzy was playing out of her mind tennis
golovin really had this match won, kuzy was down and out, but tati let it go somehow
the rallys in the match were fantastic, no cheap points ever
they were smackin the hell out of the ball, much harder than any other womans' match i saw today

she has a coach he was sitting next to me, with her mom(i think)
she talked to him at least twice during the match in timeouts and kept shouting things to him in between points

Tati. LEARN HOW TO CLOSE A MATCH PLEASE.

Harju.
Aug 24th, 2006, 12:23 PM
so the next match i saw was golovin vs. kuznetsova

MATCH OF THE DAY for sure!!!!

this match was such high quality, i have not seen a match like this in a looong time. I havent seen many like this where the crowd ooohed after almost every point.
The rallys from the first point to the last point were unbelievable. There were no cheaps points to be had. I would guess average hits per rally was about 15-20, no exaggerating.

first set kuznetsova was playing out of her mind, some of the prettiest shots ive ever seen live came off her racket and even she was laughing after some of them. tati was playing so well so the score doesnt show how tight the points were. not to mention that most games actually went to deuce. tatiana looks much better in person than she does on tv or in pictures imo, same is true for sveta. i like both of them but tati is one of my very faves so i was rooting for her.
the second set tati came out firing. Her forehand was soo on today. It was so pretty, sailing right into the corners moving sveta from side to side. It was apparent that tati was playing to sveta's forehand much more as well. It definitely paid off as tati took control of more of the points and another close set with lots of deuces went to tati, this time because sveta wasnt able to find those ridiculously amazing shots. i was surprised by golovin's movement on court, shes surprisingly quicker than i thought and gets to balls you would never think she could get to. She doesnt look fast out there but she is.
anyhow they went to the third set and it was getting tense. tati broke right away and was up 3-0. same story as second set, she was hitting everything to sveta forehand. as sveta started to come back both players were struggling with their emotions. i mean they were both very animated the whole match, but tati yelled out the f word a few times in the third and sveta kept shrieking so loud when she couldnt chase down balls im sure they heard it miles away. golovin actually just missed a ball and screamed in such a high pitch that the crowd actually went silent, i never expected such a shrill sound to come out of her  tati who had said a few things to her coach throughout the match started yelling in his direction quite a few times especially when she was on his side. I was sitting right next to him and could hear the things he was telling her and to who i think was tati's mom. nothing exceptional just like good point, she controlled that point, she needs to do this, ect, ect. Well tati yelled out after a point she lost, tell me why am i hitting it to her backhand. Then the next point hit every single shot to the forehand, there was like 25-30 shots in the rally, i thought it was hysterical. Anyhow a game on sveta's serve i think it was for tati to go up 4-1 went to like 10 deuces and sveta pulled through. and another one on sveta's serve right after went to many as well. The tension was insane and the points were just getting better and better. when tati was serving at 4-5 she didnt choke, believe me. The points were some of the best of the match and there wasnt much more she could do. I think she was upset about blowing alot of bps on the multiple deuce games on svetas serve. but all in all there is nothing she should be upset about, she played some amazing tennis, just sucks she had to get the loss.

It's good to know that she;s playing great tennis. It sucks that she had to lose this way. Then again, Tati seriously needs to learn how to close match. Surprised to know that she has a coach. :tape:

No. 5 seed Svetlana Kuznetsova walked the tightrope once again but finally vanquished Tatiana Golovin of France, 6-0, 2-6, 6-4.

"I started well but I let her back into the match due to sloppy tennis," Kuznetsova said. "When she went ahead in the third set I started moving better and letting it all hang out on my shots.

"I hope to get better before the Open. I think I can get much, much better," continued Kuznetsova, who gets a day off after two matches in 24 hours. "But i have lulls during matches. I end up fighting a lot to stay in matches. I need to clean up my game."

All in all, it was a good week for the 18-year-old Golovin.

"Although I lost 6-0, all the games in the first set were tight," Golovin said. "I felt good but Svetlana picked it up at the end. I feel like I'm improving my games each time I'm on the court."
