Its definately not Vaidisova, she is only 17 and has one SF at a grandslam and has only been as high as number 9. I am sure in some time she will be way up there, even maybe winning numerous slams.
For now its Dementieva, Rubin, and Schnyder.

I think either Dementieva or Vaidisova.
Vaidisova? Give her a chance!

Do we still consider Chanda Rubin 'active'?
For me, she's definitely a better player than Elena Dementieva, who's the obvious choice. Nicole Vaidisova needs time to develop. She's not yet proved herself worthy. Nadia Petrova needs to beat either Kim, Justine, Amelie or Maria in the latter stages of a slam to deserve the unwanted mantle.
Chanda Rubin, then. Petrova otherwise.

Thanks Steffica Greles I was thinking the exact same thing. Since everyone seems to like to play the "shoulda-coulda-woulda" game I definitely would add Rubin(AO 96) to that list. Dementieva has shown that she has the game to win so I would have to place her near if not at the top.
