Martina Navratilova's longevity and consistency is evident when you consider that she was able to rank:

20 consecutive years in the top 10.
19 consecutive years in the top 5.
17 consecutive years in the top 4.
14 consecutive years in the top 3.
8 consecutive years in the top 2.

The only player in the Open Era who comes close to this is Chris Evert with 12 or 13 consecutive years in the top 2 and something like 15 consecutive years in the top 3.

Evert was already a top player in pre-WTA years 1972, 1973 (won the YEC in both years) and 1974 (winner of the French and Wimbledon).

Chris Evert was simply amazing. I truly place consistency very high on my list when I rank who the best players have been. To play with wooden rackets, it was amazing her consistency point-by-point and tournament by tournament.

Evert has the best overall winning percentage, at .900, of any male or female pro ever.
