From Kim's diary today:

Vorige week ook een onverwachte dopingcontrole gehad. We krijgen op de tornooien zelf meermaals controles en ook tijdens rustperiodes kunnen ze ons op een willekeurig moment komen controleren. Al is het wel een beetje raar als je plots op straat door twee mensen wordt tegengehouden en meegenomen. Maar ik vind het een goede zaak en kan alleen maar aanmoedigen dat ze doping zoveel mogelijk proberen weg te houden.

translation:

Last week I had an unexpected doping test. We get tested multiple times during tournaments, and also during resting periods we can be tested at any given moment. Though it is a bit weird if you're suddenly stopped in the streets by 2 people and have to come with them. But I think it's a good thing and I can only support the act they try to battle doping.

Well, this is going far indeed  . But perhaps it does mean the tennis world is getting serious in it's battle against doping... :clap2: :)

Gosh it's stupid to test player's anytime and anywhere. I think they should only make those tests during a tournament which the player is taking part in.

Well that's not a good way to ban doping. A lot of the doping is taken in the off-season (in any sport), because that's the time athletes can increase their mass of muscles through intensive training.

Which doesn't mean they have to pick them up in the middle of the street ;)

Are you serious?
Out of competition tests are far more effective; most athletes know they get tested during competition and will make sure they don't test positive then (okay, they don't always succeed ;) - but still). It's far more difficult to hide doping abuse if you can be tested at any time.

So I'm all for it - any day, any time. (well, not during the night time perhaps :p :) )

With the recent doping at the Tour de France they might increase it even more - and why only in cycling? ;)

I hope she asked them for ID.

Otherwise she might find her bodily fluids being auctioned on eBay one of these days if she's not careful.

Good reaction from Clijsters. And nice to hear they _finally_ seem to be doing some random testing in tennis.

Not sure what ppl here are complaining about. Kim is lucky. She could have gotten a knock at the door while she was releiving herself.

That's freaky. Sounds like the kind of things that happens in the movies or on tv
You know when criminals get stopped by the FBI or something :tape::lol:

ok, maybe I'm just being silly :o

I think things are going a little too far now. People thought Martina was being snitty, but I think she was right to speak up. I don't want to see doping, but at the same time, I don't think there should be a KGB or Gestapo in sports that can haul people off for testing no matter where they are or what they are doing.

I am kind of surprised that Kim, who happens to be a girl, would go off with two strangers, no matter what kind of credentials they flashed to her.

If this happened in America, I would be very concerned in this era when the Bush administration throws people into prison without legal due process and holds them as long as it wants.

Dictatorships always start by people cracking down on society's dissidents and not long after that, anybody who does not agree with the current government is automatically a dissident.

first they should make sure that the tests actually work to detect banned drugs, then they can worry about where & when they are going to do the controls.

well, it has to be done and it needs to be random or un-announce or else players would be ready for testing.

I like that they are trying to get tough on doping, but it does seems slightly excessive.

Just wait and see, they'll have a crack team of commandos breaking into bathrooms and monitoring everytime someone goes to the bathroom - can't a girl pee in peace?!

HALT! YOU ARE HAVING AN UNAUTHORIZED BATHROOM VISIT! WHERE IS YOUR SAMPLE JAR?

I got stopped in the street for a drugs test yesterday. I was walking along in a dodgy neighbourhood when this dirty unshaven man lurched out of an alleyway, mumbling "Hey man, you want to buy some drugs?". I said no and went on my way. But it made me think, that would be a good way to test WTA players. Just get some dirty unshaven undercover narcs to approach them and say "Hey man, do you want some performance enhancing substances", and then if they say yes, or even pause to think about it, BAM! you've got 'em! No more dishonest tennis players ruining all our lives!

No it not a bad idea. When the Anti doping agentcy says anytime they mean anytime and the time their likely to get a postive result is out of competition. A good case in point when Lindsay was out for 9 months recovering from knee operation in 2002 she wasn't tested once in that time she said herself she could've taken anything that was illegal to aid the recovery and no one would've known. So hell yeah they should do it any time that's when they are likely to be caught.

They've been performing random drug testing of tennis players for years. Nothing new except Kim trying to get attention by saying she was pulled off the street, and that she agrees with it.

I'd even wake her up at 3 a.m. just to test her and make her next match a bit more difficult!

Please test Kim every day at the US Open Series! It's not fair that she wins it once again with no opposition at all!
