oops, you beat my by a hair.
GO AMY!!!!!!!
she did exactly what she needed to do. she stayed extremely aggressive on her first serve, won like 80% of them. she also returned well enough to get breaks when she needed to.
a fantastic effort. good thing she has another day off, i think. she'll need it. her last two matches were long.

It was a bad matchup for Tati and a good matchup for Amy.
Amy hits flatter and has more experience. They really don't have an advantage in movement against each other. Amy took advantage. Tati has to work on broadening her gameplan.
Keep winning Amy.

this is such a dissapoinment. tati you really should not have lost this match. you served for the second set, you were up 5-1 in the tiebrake, and you had a set point. big dissapointment from last week.

the only up side is that she has a week off until she has to play singles again. i hope she works really hard with goldfine, i hope he gets on her ass and tells her she needs to workd really hard. heres hoping for a great run in la.

The choker label is wayyyyyyy overused around here.
I didn't see the match, so I can't comment either way about it, but I agree with you 100% on the above statement. Maybe it was a choke by Tatiana, or maybe Amy played superbly to take the second set. Or maybe it was a bit of both. Anyway, it's annoying that posters who haven't seen the match declare a match an unequivocal "choke." It just comes across sounding as if the match was entirely in one player's hands, and the opponent had nothing to do with the win. And clearly, Amy on hardcourt is a tough opponent.

That said... Amy :hearts: I don't think this should surprise anyone, given Amy's propensity for kicking ass on the California harcourts. Keep up the good serving and you could have a nice run here, Amy!

Tatiana :( Hopefully some consistency in your results will come with more match play. But stay healthy first and foremost. And don't be discouraged by losing to Amy - this is the time of the season where she always shines. Good luck next tourney!

Amy :woohoo: :bigclap: Her best win of the year and an important one. Amy on US hard courts is working well again and Amy is a Top 20 when on on this surface. And her serve, while still too many DF is now having much more effect, I mean 8 aces and decent pace, anyone would be happy. I think Ivanovic might be a bit too tough for Amy, but she could shock.

And a new outfit :D

Has for the choking? Well Tati has a record, it wouldn't surprise me too much. Not sure why so many are surprised. Tati is still coming back and it will take time.

But anyways... I suggest you check Amys lifetime record during the summer hardcourt seasons over the years. Amy has been an up and down player all of her career. Its incredible how many poor sports come into these threads and make excuses why there fave loses. Tati does not need fans like that. Yes, but one should also take into account Amy's record on U.S. hardcourts. In years past, even when not getting good results early on, she's come up with good showings during the California swing.

Also, I'm not sure we can consider Tatiana fully recovered. Even if she is 100% healthy, it takes time to find your form and consistency after a break (she only played RG and Wimbledon in the 3 months follwing her injury, so she probably needs time to sort out her game).

too bad amy didn't get to play stanford!!! it was SO weak!!!
then she comes to san diego, has to QUALIFY, wins in a third set tiebreak, then faces a top 25 player who just made a semifinal last week, and now she has to try to take down the highly talented ivanovic!!! sheesh.

she has beaten ana before, but that was in 2004, lol.

i'm still angry about the stanford thing.

Tati has to work on broadening her gameplan.

Actually Tatiana needs to narrow her gameplan. She has too many shots, and hasn't perfected any of them. She needs to develop a real weapon that she plans her game around, and she needs to firm up her decision making. She looks so indecisive so often. This is honestly a shocking loss. I guess it's fine because she had Ivanovic in the next round, and she has lost 4 straight to Ana, but Tatiana really needs to step things up next week if she's going to get back into the top twenty any time soon.

TFan1156

Amy on US hard courts is working well again and Amy is a Top 20 when on on this surface.

You have to go back two years to find anything that resembles what you are saying, with wins over Schnyder (16) at Stanford and Molik (29) at S.D.

She washed out in 05 on the same, "American hardcourts" with no wins over top 50 players and some notable loses to players ranked 473, 302, & 202.

This year, nothing to point to but wins over Dulko and Tati, two known flakes and niether in the top 20... Your assertion does not work at all against the evidence...

I did, and the evidence does not support any claim that she is currently "a top 20 player on American hardcourts"... Not even close... i don't really see how it's arguable that amy frazier is darn near a top 20 player on north american hardcourts... i mean, she's headed toward the top40 in the ranks almsot completely based on her north american success and wimbledon.

in the us open series in 2004 she made ALL QF or BETTER before the us open, where she lost in a tight thriller to the eventual champion sveta. last year was an off year. she's on a similar path this year, although the odds are she won't make the QF this week.

You are right it is not arguable, she is a long way from any 2004 path for 2006, 2005 was a wash, clearly no basis for calling her a "top 20 player on American hards" in the present sense, even won`t work if you try and stretch it to "North American hards" I do not believe....

That evidence surely does show "top 20 player on American hards" as a unwarranted assertion for the present. Guess you could call it "just an opinion" but a pretty lousy one given the facts... ;) The professional bookmakers had Tati a 3-1 favorite, surely these experts that work in a busness with billions of dollars on the line didn`t see Frazier as "a top 20 player on American hards"... It was a upset like it or not, and any return of any old glory of Frazier at this point is very speculative...

You are right it is not arguable, she is a long way from any 2004 path for 2006, 2005 was a wash, clearly no basis for calling her a "top 20 player on American hards" in the present sense, even won`t work if you try and stretch it to "North American hards" I do not believe....
in 2004 she had a great us open series, and last year she had a great deal of success in north america after the us open. this year she's off to a good start on the hardcourts, why are you being so bitter?

We have been debating a point. I enjoy debating and I see you are sticking around as well. Are you bitter? ;) Did you check the ranks of the players she beat on hard courts post U.S. Open last year? All wins were over players ranked over 100 (some much higher) except Dechy (13) and Arvidsson (75). And included in these trips are loses to players ranked 302 & 202... You have little to work with there... Consider 2005 along with wins over Dulko and Tati here recently and there is no basis for saying she is presently "a top 20 player on American hards"... That is the point, and no amount of singing, dancing, and spinning will help ya...

That is really funny, your general statement that Frazier is "a top 20 player on American hardcourts" doesn`t hold up, not even close, all you and the rest can do is change the subject and bring up Sesil, a subject of innumerable old threads... Next time do your research before pontificating....

When Amy is playing her best, she is a Top 20 player on hardcourts. What the fuck is your problem with that :retard:

And if you bitch about Amy, I will bitch about your precious  I'm sure her return will be thunderous... thunderously bad :tape:
