Just basically stay low to the ground, monica always did that well, she hugs the baseline and stays super low and gets UNDER the ball...its amazing.
And of course early preperation, she had great timing. People bash monica for her lack of movement, but for a big girl she took good care of her footwork.

She raised the bar enormously. I'll never forget when she exploded onto the scene and thrashed Navratilova and Graf during that incredible run in the Spring of 1990.

I really think she was THE prototype of all the power players who came along since. I know Graf had a huge forehand, but Steffi still rallied in a conventional sense because of her weaker backhand whilst Monica just wanted to CRUSH every single ball away for a winner. That and the fact that she stood well inside the baseline. You can trace those Selesian traits through all the later power players - many of whom (including the Williams) have acknowledged their debt to Seles.

I still believe she would have been the greatest of ALL if it weren't for that awful day in 1993. I think she would even have won Wimbledon at least once despite the fact that it never suited her style of play.

We were indeed ROBBED of a truly prodigious talent. She was never the same upon her return to the game. The mental dominance was gone and her conditioning was poor.

Venus even said that she started to grunt, because Monica did.

Monica, Monica :tears:...the first tennis player that I saw EVER...that year she got stabbed was the first year I got into tennis and it was all because of her! Monica was truly one of the most talented players in tennis history, and I have NO doubt that if not for that day in Germany, that she EASILY could be tied or beating Steffi Graf in almost EVERY superlative that is due to her. Monica, we love you, and tennis has changed for the better because of you! We owe you Mon!
