It doesn't make sense to me. Is it because it doesn't have a big enough purse?

it's a tier III and the US Open Series is inclusive to tier I and II events only, but in my opinion, they should change it to a tier II

The Flory brothers (who own it) already have Masters status with the ATP for Cincy. According to Cronin's story on Carlsbad (aka San Diego) ending in a year and selling its Tier I rights, these guys will likely buy that. (And Tier II's will be eliminated anyhow).

i think this is the third year, and for sure the first year it was a tier IV
