View Full Version : Dementieva: profi, amateur and the coach ?

Jul 21st, 2006, 10:58 AM
Profi:cool, clever, controlled, consistent, conceptfull.
She has these on good days, (very, very seldom) and no opponents could
whitstand her even in spite of her "soft serves".

Amateur: capricious, chaotic, controlless, confused, conceptless.
These are the "attributes" of her play on bad days (very often) and she could
lose even against a legless donkey.

Further: "step by step collection" of her plays for the last ca. 2 years:
over 490 DF-s, over 709 UE-s, (there are much more "results"
like these, but these are more than enough to see the "defects").

Question: how are these facts possible at all ?
She has the best "constructed" body (forget everything about beuaty,
charm and shape here), well trained physically, posessing extra-
ordinary ground strokes, light footed, very quick and the fighting
habit is very well here too.

But since 1998 she was not able ( or not willing !?) to learn a proper service,
and to acquire the above mentioned "profi attributes".
She is representing a Rolls-Royce, badly assembled somewhere in Kabul, every-
thing is there but not properly placed, no fine tuning at all, forward gears
are running backwards ecc.ecc.ecc.

What to do: the Rolls-Royce should be completely disassembled and properly
reassembled at a truly professional "factory". After about 12-16 weeks we
could see some tennis-wonder. But, just a new Coach is insufficient here.

why is always so hard for me to understand what Matyka says??????????

Well she NEEDS a coach. I have no doubt about it.
But the question is who?????? and she doesn't want a coach she says she doesn't need one and that with her mother's help is enough.
and I don't think so ,Vera just will not make Elena to serve properly and the serve is super important in tennis she loses so so so much points with her serve.
But she also break lots of services.

She has all the phisical qualities to serve well(tall, and she hit the ball really hard)...........................but I also think is too late to teach her a serve is not something you learn form one day to another if you don't have a serve you won't get one.
She has been playing with that serve forever and It will be hard to change it if she doen't put effort into it(I think if she spend all the free season training her serve with Richard someting good can happen) but she doesn't want to.

So there is nothing we can do .........well support her of course and that is what I will do. :)
