Do we have any chance in the near future of making the world group?

Well we got one tie away from getting to the group 2 play-offs and based on the teams there we could have beaten a few of them.

If Naomi Cavaday continues to improve and fulfill her potential i think we will have a great shiot over the next few years.

Who will be picked this year?

At present I would say

Anne, Melanie, Katie and Claire

but depends on fitness of Bally and results over next few weeks with Melanie/Claire playing doubles together so could be

Anne, Bally, Claire/Melanie

will be interesting :)

Its prob the most competative FED cup team for years, which is a good thing.

Totally agree. Nigel is probably in Spain to make his selection.

Ok if its out Monday i'm going for

Anne, Katie and Claire. I'd think he'd pick Naomi but FED cup doesn't really fit into her schedule.

If its monday - Anne, Katie, Claire and Naomi but if not then probably Mel. Depends who plays with Claire really. Anne and her won a $25k event while Mel and Claire havent clicked yet.

So if Mel doesnt play doubles, I wouldnt take her. I would pick Georgie or someone like that for experience because Mel just isnt in form at the moment.

Naomi will be in USA i think :(

My Selections

Anne Keothavong, Georgie Stoop, Claire Curran and Katie O'Brien

I know my selections are odd but im leaving out South because at the moment she cant win a singles match and Elena Baltacha has no real match fitness built up just yet. Stoop is playing well and i believe would rise to the occation and Amanda is on some HOT form :)

Amanda will struggle on the clay - she loves fast courts or else I would agree with you

Anne, Bally (if fit) Claire and Naomi

Ditto, although I would have thought Bally was easily fit enough for 4 doubles matches. Any singles matches she can play would be a bonus.

The LTA site has updated some of the Top Player Profiles...and it appears 3 of the players have had their Fed Cup history added to their profile; Anne, Elena and Naomi (even though she's never played Fed Cup before). :hehehe:

Claire's also had her Fed Cup history added to her profile, although it's no longer with the others strangely...http://www.lta.org.uk/Performance/TopPlayerProfiles/TopPlayersWomen/CurranClaire.htm?BSMGuid=5c8f8232-6720-4933-b8d1-0ed88f7c8afd

Play Naomi as number 1, with Elena as the number 2, and either Anne or Elena to partner Claire for the doubles. Let's face it Anne isn't going to win any of the matches against other countries top players (depending on who we draw) so Naomi may as well get the experience and could even suprise us!

:wavey: Well done GB.

I hope they give Naomi a chance against Poland I really do think she could beat A Radwanska Iam obviously bias but I would prefer a Anne K and Naomi team

With Claire and Elena for the doubles.

But I think we can beat them hopefully :bounce:

Bally has the best record in Fed Cup over Anne K or the others. She is the one they definitely want to have regardless of her current rank.

A 3-0 defeat to Sweden on Saturday left Great Britain in 11th place overall out of 16 nations in the Fed Cup Europe/Africa Zone Group 1 in Bulgaria.

The Swedes clinched a tight opening match in the 9th-12th place play-off match and maintained their momentum throughout the tie.

Johanna Larson recovered from a shaky second set to beat Kent teenager Naomi Cavaday 6-2, 1-6, 6-1.

Next up, Sofia Arvidsson proved too strong for British No.1 Anne Keothavong 6-3, 7-5.

And the Swedes wrapped up a convincing win thanks to Mari Andersson and Larsson brushing aside Elena Baltacha and Claire Curran 6-0, 6-1.

The result left Britain in equal 11th place in the 16-nation division.

Britain finished third in the Pool D round robin stages. They opened with a 3-0 win against Bulgaria, before 2-1 and 3-0 defeats to Luxembourg and Poland respectively.
