:( I know, it's nice to see VeeBob and all, but the Women's Doubles
Championship is being played LIVE, and NBC is ignoring it in favor of a
taped match from yesterday, just because there are no US players in
that final. It's all about the ratings I guess. :wavey:

Well that's probably true. Actually it is

But, Mary also said something to the tune of "Venus is all about power. But don't get me wrong, that power has made her a lot of money."

NO, Venus has more GS doubles titles than Bob. Yeah he is a BETTER doubles player than her...but for Mary to say Venus isn't "nearly the doubles player" is consistent with the rubbish she usually spits.

Matters not what Mary says, Venus already had the career slam in doubles and she has two out of 4 in mixed. She's not bad at all.

All I know is that Venus has held more times than Bob has, and he's supposed to have the great serve. Anyway Venus and Bob both look dead. Venus was acting like her butt was sore. They should have waited to play the next day.

I think Bob was tired from the doubles and Venus was tired from waiting, but credit goes to Vera and Andy for an awesome match. :D

So true!! This Venus is completely different from the one who played Jie/Max the day before. Oh well, it's still good that she stayed back to finish what she started after her tough singles loss .

But her point is Bob is the year-round doubles player, week in and week out. So yeah, he is the better player. Maybe she was off with the "nearly" but I mean she was trying to convey a pretty clear point.

Correction: Mary Carillo is barely on speaking terms with anyone .

I see where you are coming from, it's no secret that she's not too fond of Venus. But I don't think her statement was that off base. And if u saw the match, Venus was going for a little too much for playing doubles.

If she wanted to make the point a little fairer and not so negative, she could have said that Bob is a doubles specialist. Because like you said, Venus already has her career slam in doubles and isn't even a "specialist."

They complained the whole time in the doubles match when V/S played Suarez/Rascual in the doubles final at one of the slams and were given the #1 seeding, that V/S didn't know how to play doubles and that they were getting a clinic because they dropped the first set. Blah, blah, blah. Guess what, they went on to win and shut them up.

I can't wait for V/S to get back to form and shut some more losers (and a few so-called fans) up, who are just too damn gleeful that they aren't playing top-form tennis. And even with Venus still trying to improve her game and get back to form, they're still b*tching. can't win!

And i agree, MC was just talking shit on
Venus left and right, they all were but
her especially!

Mad cow because she was never and will never
be 1/1000 the player Venus is or even was
before she began winning Slams of any kind.

Venus of 94' @ BOW
could've kicked her
ass at 14.

A prime example of how commentating can
ruin a match experience. Listened to it on
Wimbledon radio the other day and is
was afr better!

Yet, screw them!

Andy Ram really impressed me and was nice
to see him have such a positive effect on Vera.

Thanks for providing the evidence to prove that Carillo has taken the crown for the most hateful BITCH on tv. The main purpose of her comments was just to throw something negative on Venus as if loosing was not enough.

Those who know anything about tennis knows that Bob specialises in doubles while Venus on rare occasions plays doubles at the majors. I think it was even remarkable that she got that far considering that both were playing for the first time and had to face tough opponents throughout.

To hear Carillo speak you would think V&R don't possess the skills to play tennis but when you check their amazing records it must be by divine miracle why they can beat tough opponents again and again to come with all these titles.

Let's face it, how many doubles partership have devoted their time and efforts playing year after year and still can't even aquire that many major doubles titles, while these two can just pick up their rackets and do it and not to mention an olympic gold as well. Bob just completed his career major title today while V&R completed theirs 5 years ago therefore her comment was unnecessary.

There was positive talk!

But if you would have seen the match, you would have seen that when Venus was at the basline, she was going for a bit too much and hitting her strokes long. She was playing well, but you could see that she wasn't accustomed to having someone else on the court beside her.

Both John n Mary talked about how it was good to see her stick around and how it'd be good for her tennis. It was a very light-hearted commentary, they were joking around because the match was "fun". It wasn't as if Mary was using her dark, degrading rhetoric or anything of that sort.

That's cool then. Maybe all that "negative" talk would have been gone if they had gone on and won the title.

And I agree that if it weren't Venus on the court, Mary would never have mentioned anything about Venus not being nearly the doubles player as Bob. However, those words ARE 100% true. Venus never plays doubles, so for her to help Bob make this final was pretty awesome. Bob plays doubles day in and day out which makes the words valid. I think her last doubles match was with Morariu at Fed Cup, this time last year.

My contention is not the accuracy of the statement but the motives. What was the reason for Mary interjecting such comments in the first place. There are many people who play better doubles than V&R but have accomplished less so I just can't figure out what other reason for such comments other than to discredit Venus' doubles abilities.

Venus looked a bit out of her element during that match. Of course, she's a very accomplished player. But it was apparent she still has a singles-mindset when she's out there. I think Carillo was trying to point that out. During the match, Venus was hitting her ground strokes long and was hitting volleys to the male player. Bryan would know that.

I also believe Carillo wouldnt have said that if Bob was playing with "Player B". BUT, not for the same reasons everyone else does. Bryan typically plays with women that are more doubles oriented. Playing with someone with the stature as Venus Williams, who is such an accomplished singles player, raises a few heads. Especially when it's her first doubles tournament in almost a year. So one is bound to be able to distinguished the doubles-mindset and tatics of Bob bryan as compared to Venus.

Simple. If Venus was a more accomplished doubles player, perhaps she could have picked her partner up.

If the female in question wasn't a good doubles player, yes.

If the female in question wasn't a good doubles player, yes.

This is true, but for someone who rarely plays doubles, she plays pretty damb well. Can't say the same about Bob Bryan's singles game can you? If she played doubles more often she would be even better. Bob plays pretty much strictly doubles and for a living, so yeah I'd hope he'd be the more accomplished player on the court...but I guarantee you he is proud to have her as his partner, as is she of having him.
