View Full Version : Anna Kournikova played singles in her WTT match tonight!

CoryAnnAvants#1
Jul 7th, 2006, 06:23 AM
She lost to Angela Haynes 5-2, but I think that's her first set of competitive singles since her abrupt exit from tennis. Maybe I'm looking into it too much, but I really do think that she's testing the waters for a comeback by playing all three events instead of just the doubles.

She lost the doubles and mixed as well, but those were by 5-4 scores. Let's see if it gets any better with more matches.

definetely in the right direction. At least she's testing the waters! Please keep going Anna :hearts:

Haynes can be a really good player, usually inconsistent but might've had a good night, however Kournikova could've been reallllly rusty tonight as well.

Please no bashing, let's just try to make this positive

Anna was one of the most talented players on the tour, it's a shame she never really acheived too much in singles and left the game so early.

But I don't think she's going to come back.

Nope, Bethanie Mattek. She's subbing in for Elena for three nights this week.

Yeah, I was wondering who they would get to play for them.

Since Nikki's got Fed Cup against France to concentrate on, Likhovtseva only just lost her Wimbledon Mixed match and Nastya Pavlyuchenkova is still in the junior doubles event with Kleybanova.

The pieces are slowly coming together.

Remember last year Martina Hingis lost her first singles match on WTT? But after that she never dropped a set! Well maybe Anna can't achieve that, but at least if she is serious enough and putting in the hard work, her experience and net play should carry her through with great result this year and hopefully she will return soon!

P.S. Imagine how BIG of a news it would be if Anna plays Masha on the tour? I bet this will be huge (and it will attract a lot of attention) because they represent tennis star/sex symbol of their generation! Remember Martina's first match against Masha in Tokyo?

I think you are looking too much into it. In WTT they have certain contactual obkigations. As a marquee player she is obligated to play singles once or twice a season. That's all she was doing IMO.

maybe these were photoshopped as well. If the photos are real, her ass and legs are just gone. The photos are extremely disturbing. It's anorexia. Anya's history since she emigrated to the US, are a classic background for it. GL's remark of "that's how she wants to look" is also pretty shocking imo. Exactly right. That's how anorexic girls want to look.

she is defenitely testing the waters at wtt, like hingis did last year, because of the success hingis has had this year. annas tennis speaks for itself. she is well rounded and can do anything on the court. however, she is in no shape to compete. she needs to gain more muscle and get fitter. she is loosing to haynes and her doubles matches because of her fitness not because of her tennis.

Anna will be releasing and promoting an exercise video soon.
She'll be out and about. From Elle magazine -

ELLE BEAUTY BODY SPECIAL

You May Think She Has The Perfect Body, But ANNA KOURNIKOVA Wanted A Curvier (And, Yes, Bigger) Bottom. Here's How She Got It:

GOOD SPORT: HIND SIGHT

Well, ELLE readers, it's been a year since I started writing this fitness column. In honor of the anniversary, I spent the past three months working on a goal: Project Hourglass. While it may not be the most illustriously named plan, it certainly required devoted training. The reason is simple---I'm naturally long, lean, and lanky. "Oh, boo-hoo," I can hear you say, but bear with me: When I was playing tennis on the professional circuit, my body completely changed. For nearly 15 years, I spent six hours a day on the court in a crouch; all that moving and rallying resulted in a body i liked---one with strong thighs, a high, tight derriere, and a narrow waist. I wasn't exactly Salma Hayek, but it was more than what nature originally gave me.

Now, almost three years have passed since I was on the court full-time, and my body has changed again. Because I'm much less bulky now, I was worried I was losing the the hardened junk in my trunk. I set up a goal of boosting my curves by increasing the muscles on my hips, paring down on my waist, and creating a bum you could use as a drink holder.

As a result, for the past three months, I've been exercising like crazy with my Miami-based trainer, Jennifer Klein. While I followed this workout plan, I also ate healthily and did as much cardio as possible, usually 45 minuites to an hour at least four days a week. The good news is that I saw a change---and not just in how my body feels or the way my pants fit, but in cold, hard numbers. After almost three months, I lost 1.5 percent of my body fat and an inch from my waist and gained an inch from my hips, making a visible difference in my form.

*JR*

Goldy, RU the world's biggest fool or what? The Anna in the more revealing pictures (in a tennis outfit) is totally @ odds with what you posted that she said she wants to look like. (Oh wait, you said twice ITT that she obviously wants to look like she actually does now, so which is it?)

With fans like you, she doesn't need enemies! As vogus correctly pointed out, she clearly has a problem, and of course the first thing one has to do is admit that. And as I said earlier, while Dani recovered from her '03 case of anorexia, Karen Carpenter and others didn't.

And now its not that "hater" JR complaining about Anna getting big bux just for being famous; in fact I didn't even mention money re. this issue. Its a wide cross section of posters who mostly like Anna, some a great deal. You're the last lonely denier of the painfully obvious truth.

I almost never call another poster something like an idiot, but I have to make an exception in this case. You're an idiot because ITT you've again contradicted yourself, rather than admit what others (who mostly like Anna) do. Just read the top quote by yourself, and compare it to Anna's stated words you posted, that she set a goal of ADDING muscle and curves! So which of these 2 opposite appearances is how Anna "wants to look", Goldy?

I won't pretend 2B an Anna fan, but applaud all of them who've posted ITT except you and your fellow enabler Selecta, for putting concern for her health above a wacky idea that if you only deny what "your own lying eyes tell you" long enough, you'll wake up and it will have all been a bad dream. :help:

Goldy, you get more pathetic by the day on this, as hard as that must be. The pics you posted @ the end of page 2 are quite dated, made even clearer as the magazine text (worded in the time frame when Anna's relationship with Enrique was rather new) shows. Face it: this woman has a potentially dangerous medical problem (though not @ a critical stage yet). She needs understanding, and professional help.

While I strongly doubt that your de-nile of the sad truth will stop her from getting it, the ill-timed (no pun intended) look alike contest on Friday in Wilmington is the kind of "double message" that can't help. (In defense of the WTT owned Delaware Smash, it was surely a contractual obligation). BTW, the whore publishers of that magazine you posted a story from @ the end of page 2 obviously used pics from B4 her progressive weight loss, duh!

I think when she plays tennis, it accentuates the crazy skinnyness. However, if you took half the music artists and actresses and put them on a tennis court, they'd look the exact same way. I just find it interesting that after 3 years of no news on her tennis state.. the article about how she wants to return and how Hingis' comeback got her thinking appears.. and then all of the sudden her first singles match in MANY years..

Granted, I may not be remembering this right but . . . hasn't Anna played WTT every summer for the past few years?

I remember when Steffi Graf played a couple of years ago for the team in Houston (or Dallas, or somewhere in Texas) there was speculation about whether or not Stef would play Anna when their teams met. They didn't.

However, it seem to me Anna has played WTT for several years, along with several exhibitions. My point being, there hasn't been "3 years of no news" about Anna.

P.S.: I agree, she is way too skinny.

the worst part of it for me is the way her face looks in these photos. It used to be a full Slavic face but now it's ghostly looking. Anya has caught "American white woman's disease" - the desire to be platinum blonde, have a skin-and-bones body shape, and big fake boobs. :haha: :haha: :haha: I thought the "American White Woman Disease" is big fat mamas with cellulites eating at Mcdonalds everyday.

The fact that shes on a tennis court makes her look like that.

Thats how girls her age look like. Any size 2/4 girl that is as tall as Anna is would look the same.

Its how young girls look, get over it. Its not un-healthy by any means.
And besides its her body, she can look the way she wants.

I agree with goldenlox. Just because Anna doesn't want to look like the average overweight American, nor be overly athletic, and just be a size 2 or so, there is absoltuely nothing wrong with that.

She could use a few pounds personally, but hey its her body, she's obviously very healthy, so everyone should just mind their business.

Would you have said the same thing about Dani (who was only slightly skinnier then than Anna is now) in the summer of '03?
