The results are a little hard too read; poorly organized

So I'm not sure who won and lost lol

I know! The Live Scoring charts are definitely confusing. But I finally figured it out! Here's the scoop:

The first column on the left, Pts, concerns the POINTS happening in the current set. The first side to win 4 points wins the game. Then there is a tiebreak point I guess, because some games end 5-4.

You need five games to win a set. The current score in GAMES is also changing as the set goes on; you will see that change in its appropriate column.

Scores in the other columns reflect the sets already played:

MS = men's singles
WS = women's singles
MD = men's doubles
WD = women's doubles
MXD = Mixed

Finally, the blue column on the far right, Tot, shows the cumulative total for all the sets played so far. So to check which team is winning, or which team won, that's the only column you need to look at.

For details of the points scored by the individual players in each set, you can click on Match Stats on the bottom right. Above the Team stats chart on the Match Stats page, you can click on links to look into the WS, MS, etc sets.

Hope that helps! :wavey:

Edited to correct scoring mistake! 4 points, not 5, wins a game.

Good thread Janie. I hope it's a good summer of WTT action. :) It's fun tennis and a good change of pace from the WTA and ATP tours.

And I hope Anna Kournikova plays some WTT singles this season in addition to her doubles and mixed doubles and is league MVP this season. :tennis: :D :yeah:

auntie janie
Jul 8th, 2006, 08:48 PM
Sorry, but I don't think AK will be the go-to singles player for her team, cat! ;)

I think I like WTT because it gives some lesser-known players a chance to really shine. Not only Challenger players that i'm familiar with from that world, but also unsung veterans like Elena Likhotseva, who was the TeamTennis MVP last year. And retired players like Pat Rafter last year :hearts: , college players and even junior players have their day in the sun, too.

auntie janie
Jul 8th, 2006, 10:17 PM
Anna-Lena is on the Wranglers roster, but maybe she's not back from England yet. A lot of the Tour players play only a limited schedule with their WTT teams. Keep checking; she'll be playing for sure. They need her!

wasn't hingis the mvp last year?

No. She had a great record, winning all but one of her matches, but she wasn't chosen, probably because she didn't play as often as Likhotseva did.

This year it looks like Hingis is only going to play ONCE. :(

Jul 9th, 2006, 08:20 PM
I don't think they'd take a chance on Anna in singles, cat. She's lost all 4 of her doubles and mixed matches so far this season. She did win a tiebreak game with her partner to help make up for those losses yesterday, but the tiebreak was only needed because her mixed and doubles losses brought down her team's lead to a tie. :tape:

Anna still sells tickets, though. So she has her place in WTT and will be able to play it as long as she likes. But no team is going to be drafting her for her deteriorated tennis skillz, that's for sure. :hehehe:

Yeah, Ashley Harkleroad didn't exactly have anything nice to say about the state of Anna's game when I asked her about that match last night. I'm covering all of the New York Buzz home matches again this season for On The Line. Viktoria Azarenka and Anastasia Myskina played dubs last night against Meghann Shaughnessy and Lisa McShea.

Vika/Anastasia won and were a joy to watch. Viktoria REALLY gets in to it and, even on the sidelines, was constantly up and down and waving her jacket round and round trying to get the crowd pumped. She's such a smiley girl; so full of life and enthusiasm. Anastasia was amused with her I think. They appeared to enjoy each other's company and Myskina treated her a bit like a kid sister. It was cute! I'll have my photos up at some point for anyone wishing to see them.

Yeah, definitely post them! I was following that match last night on the live scoring for a little while. Didn't Vika beat Meghann in singles, too? But I might have been confused by the goofy livescore chart, because surely they'd put Nastya in for the singles set. (And I'm too lazy to go check today. :D )

Looks like she's only playing home matches. She's got two more dates to play: tomorrow night & the next night, both at home. Her team is in first place in the West right now. :)

And in the East, janie-fave Angie Haynes has put her Delaware team in first place as well. :D

I believe she's just playing 2 more times this summer, cat. Her team does better without her, so that's a lucky break for them (except ticket-sales-wise). ;) They've got Vaidisova, young Anna Pav. (who played great last night), and two of the best doubles players in the world, last year's WTT male & female MVPs, Lena Likh. and Mark Knowles.

Yes and that's why I was so interested in the pairing. But both were bubbly, smiling, and Anastasia was patting Vika on the head at one point. They also sat next to each other on the "bench". Anastasia was eating popcorn and Viktoria a Subway sandwich. The friendliness was genuine, it was more than just being polite to each other.

Myskina def. Wozniacki 5-0. :eek: Nastya means business out there, doesn't she!

Still, I think this whole WTT experience is great for Caroline. She's getting a chance to play doubles with a former #1 WTA doubles veteran, Corina Morariu, which is fantastic, and she's also getting a chance to test herself in singles against a top-10 WTA player in a friendly setting.

Unfortunately in Sacramento, not Springfield.

Sadly for the Lasers, red-hot Myskina will have returned to the Tour by then, so the Caps will have the edge. On the other hand, the Caps will have Kournikova back, which is too bad for them, since she's their worst player, 0-6 in doubles and mixed sets. They haven't lost since she took off. :lol:

No, of course not, instead we have to play the same team twice at home in one week :rolleyes: *pouts*

ok ok ok I'll chill out. Feel incredibly lucky that who they've touted this year is playing because I've been very unhappy with that in past years. Vika and Anastasia have been a huge treat and then seeing Caroline too.

In the meantime, a few more photos. Got quite a few to sort through.

They played Vika and Andrea tonight and Anastasia played mixed; what's up with that? :confused: They took my dream team away. :( Nastya seemed to enjoy herself but not nearly as much as playing with Vika. Also, Vika and Andrea didn't "click" like Vika and Anastasia do.

I know, I hate the way they emphasize the big names, then you find out most of them are playing just once at home (or once, period).

But you were so lucky -- this has got to be the first time that a current top-15 player has played this many matches for her team. I really got to liking that team now, and I hope they can keep up their undefeated record now that Myskina won't be around.

Meanwhile, after a bad start, Philadelphia is turning things around. Lisa Raymond's back now; she and Daniel Nestor should be as good as Sacramento's amazing Knowles/Likhotseva mixed team; and also Venus will be playing for them 3 times, which can't hurt. Still, Philly just squeaked by feisty Angie Haynes' Delaware team last night, needing a "super-tiebreak" to put them away.

We've been lucky in that we had Anastasia play three seasons for us. And before her Lina!!! Watching Lina play is what got me attending WTT permanently. I've had a chance to see several really good players during WTT, Nicole, Maria, and Anastasia to name three.

I'm very sorry, ALGfan. I must have read the scoreboard wrong -- Jorn is correct, ALG lost 1-5 to Haynes. (And thanks for the correction, Jorn. :))

I just wish she were on a better team than the Wranglers. :(

Playing let serves?? :o :tape: That is just ridiculous!

Well, it certainly is DIFFERENT. Here's how the scoring of a game goes:

Game
Game scoring is no-ad (first team to win four points wins the game). Should the game reach deuce (3 points each), the receiver chooses the side from which he/she will receive serve. In mixed doubles, the serve is always gender to gender at deuce. Each game counts as one point in the team's cumulative match score. Players change sides after every four games. Lets are played and either partner may return the let serve.

But there are many other peculiarities, as well, such as an "overtime" system that gives the losing team a chance to catch up, a "supertiebreaker", etc.

And here's the way a WTT court looks:

There are some great photos that Sonja posted if you scroll back in the thread.

Can't believe the Explorers fought so hard only to lose in one of those "Supertiebreakers". :mad:

And yes, Hingis was part of the 0-5 doubles team last night. :D

And the amazing Pitu won in singles, doubles, and mixed, carrying her team to victory over Azarenka and the Lasers. I hope Sonja will be bringing us some photos of that match. :)

Lots of close matches last night! I was surprised to see the Sportimes beat the Caps. So it turns out the Caps CAN lose even when Kournikova's not "helping" them -- this is their first loss of the season in an Anna-free match. :lol: So maybe the Sportimes can repeat as champions this year -- and I thought their win last year was all due to Hingis, silly me. :silly:

Fabulous night in singles for Caro! So the Lasers hauled out both Vanc AND Azarenka to play against her, but neither one of them could get a game. Nice night for the Explorers, but unfortunately, they're getting good just a little too late to make the "postseason". :( Same with Boston; they waited too long.

I see Delaware and Philly are in a tight battle for the 2nd semifinal for the East ... I like both teams; wish they could both go, but the Sportimes are better than both.

Heh, I didn't follow the scoreboard after all; my husband phoned and I ran off to talk to him. :hearts:

Great to see Caro and Angie Haynes both go out in style in their last singles matches. :apartY: But the Smash got TROUNCED. So Philly gets in after a horrendous start -- well done, Lisa Raymond and Daniel Nestor, the players who made it happen. :)

In the West, the Caps have a huge advantage over the Lasers, who haven't been very good at all since Myskina left. :(

The Lasers won't be in the semis. For some obscure WTT reason, they had to play "wild card" team Newport Beach in a playoff to reach the semis, despite NB's unimpressive record (SEVEN teams had better records than NB :rolleyes:). And NB won that match, so Springfield's out. Bizarre!

It's like if the US Open decided that one of the players who reach the semis has to play another match against a girl who already lost but who sells tickets better. It's no wonder WTT has never spread, with all these ridiculous rules. :p

Semifinal Surprise:

So the wild card team, the Breakers, upset the Capitals! :eek: It was a really tight match; must have been fun to watch -- at least for the home crowd, since I believe it's all happening right there in Newport Beach.

Congrats to the Freedoms! I can't believe Lisa Raymond was not the season MVP. But I think they always choose someone who plays the whole season, and she missed the first week.

angie haynes MVP ok then what was that based on

auntie janie
Aug 15th, 2006, 01:12 PM
Here is the official WTT statement about it:

"Haynes was one of the breakout stars of the 2006 WTT Pro League season, finishing her rookie WTT season ranked third in both women's doubles (63-46, .578 winning percentage) and women's singles (55-39, .585 winning percentage)."

But I think her selection as MVP was probably mostly based on the nice boost she gave to her team, not just on her individual stats. The Smash had a very good season, largely because of Angie.
