That said, Go Momo!

I hope Momo :scared: but I think Juju

It will be a nice final for me, two players I like but don't love and I don't care who wins

Momo I don't think has much chance. She won today because Sharapova gave her that final set with loads and loads of unforced errors. If Sharapova knew how to volley, she would have won. Well, Justine does know how to volley, and will come to net and attack. Justine is just better than Mauremso in all departments, so I'd pick her to win.

My brain, and literally everything else, is telling me Justine should win but I have a funny feeling about Amelie...it could just be blind optimism!

It could be a French double this weekend...Amelie and Wimbledon, France and the World Cup (although I only want Amelie to win, not France in the World Cup ;) )

it's a toss-up with a slight edge to justine.

only because in a grand slam final, fight is as important as good tennis. justine has more fight.

Henin. She plays big points better than Mauresmo and I think her quitting against Mauresmo really will get under Mauresmo's skin. Having said that, if anyone can beat Henin, it's Mauresmo only because she has a great all court game and plays a lot more intelligenty than Sharapova and Clijsters. Unfortunately, I don't think she's playing that well like she was in Australia where she crushed Vaidisova, Schnyder and really was the better player in the match against Clijsters. This tourney she has looked shaky against Ivanovic, Myskina, and Sharapova. And Henin's win over Clijsters is far more impressive than Mauresmo's over Sharapova. The disparity in talent between Sharapova and Mauresmo is huge. Only Sharapova's fighting spirit made it a somewhat close match. And while she has the talent to match Henin shot for shot, a big part of tennis is the mental side. Who knows, Maybe beating someone like Sharapova in grass in a 3rd set could instill some new found confidence. I just don't think it will be enough as Henin really raised her game on big points today.

I agree with you but i have to be more optimist and hope that Amelie wants again if necessary to "die on the court"! :D

Mother_Marjorie
Jul 6th, 2006, 08:53 PM
Justine thrashed Amelie the last time they played.

The difference between Justine and Maria today is that Justine is a much better volleyer and less inconsistent. Mauresmo will not get a lot of free points from Justine like she did Maria.

Justine hasn't had a lull in her past 13 grand slam matches, winning in straight sets. She's by far the most mentally tough player in the WTA. Regardless of how well Mauresmo plays, her mental game will faulter against someone like Justine.

Score: Henin-Hardenne 7-5, 6-2

Snore.
Who cares?
NBC is dying.
I'm sure Amelie is really nice.
I'm sure Justine would like to win all 4 titles.
Last year we had Venus v. Lindsay, and a
classic final that could have gone either
way.

This year...a snoozefest. Sorry, neither one
of these ladies musters up much interest
for me, or many other once or twice a year
tennis fans.

They are praying for a Nadal-Federer final
at NBC.

and what if, by a terrible sense of irony, Justine twists her ankle terribly and can only barely walk

I can't choose. MoMo finally showing she can convert a matchpoint in a slam final. Justine completing the career slam. I'd be happy for both to win it ... as long as there's no retirement ...

Henin is the safest bet, but Mauresmo was having a major choke today in the second set, but managed to get herself out of it. So it's interesting what she will do on Saturday, altough she can't afford to choke against Henin. Her game on grass is good enough tough to beat Henin.

Momo has a great chance. She can volley and serve well. She needs to return well and remain consistant. I want Momo to win and gain revenge on Juju for her bad sportwomanship at the OZ open. I want Momo to prove that her OZ win was no fluke. I hope Juju stays through out this match and doesn't retire when momo outshines her. LOL

Jul 7th, 2006, 06:56 AM
For Mauresmo, everything will depend on her serve.
If she doesn't serve many first serve, she will be in trouble as Justine is a better returner than Amelie.
And Amelie can't expect to win as many points on blocked shots that lands short against Justine.
