Interesting thread!! :)

It must be awful (obviously) to have a run like that (and to have the confidence crushed) but so great to turn it around... (I think how Jelena Jankovic's year has changed - that awful start then to beat the defending champion at Wimbledon - how great for her :) )

I remember that Vince Spadea had what seemed to be an everlasting run of losses in the ATP a few years ago, before beating Greg Rusedski at Wimbledon...

Yeah, exactly. Bagel girls are hardly winning games in matches they play. But I think Top200 is a good criteria for this list as well, as the players who come into this HOS need to be able to play actually.

12 Kimberly Po (Nov 94 - Aug 95)
12 Silke Meier (Jul 88 - Apr 89)

I think Selima Sfar is gettin pretty close to making the Losing Streak Hall of Shame. If ITF events ARE included - then i think she's on 6, however id they aren't included im pretty sure she's on 9 losses in a row or 8. Someone who knows what they're doing should check it out :)

You got the numbers right (9 in a row in WTA tourneys), but ITFs are included (quite a few streaks were halted on 9 after beating a #500 player in an ITF). And 6 isn't that close.
The "impressive" bit is that they all have been straight set losses, and apart from the recent one to Safina (thanks to the WC, because she wouldn't have passed a round in qualies), all to players outside the top 100.

Even though she doesn't have that many straight losses yet, it is surprising to see MariaK, with five straight, as a top player and after making the 4R at the AO.

Her last five events:
Doha (Tier I)

lt. Medina Garrigues (in three)

Dubai (Tier II)
lt. A. Bondarenko (in three)

Bangalore (Tier II)
lt. Yan 3-6, 7-6(7), 6-1 :o

She does though join a very small group of players that have two such runs - AFAIK only Lee-Waters and Cervanova (whose second 10 loss streak isn't mentioned here) hold that distinction. :yeah:

And again, for the 15th straight time, this time to De Los Rios in Bogota, from a set up. She's quickly approaching the top 3
Curiously, while the record seems to be under threat, the joint record holders are teaming up this week in Memphis :)
One of them, Scheepers, is in the form of her life, recently made her GS debut, and about to enter the top 150 for the first time. Her career high until last week, no. 161, was set six years ago(!), and was immediately followed by the record losing streak, ending outside the top 400.

I don't know if anyone keeps track of such streaks in doubles, however the latest results of Vladimira Uhlirova are definitely worth an honorable mention in this thread:

Only three players are known to have recorded more than one 10+ losing streak in their entire (singles) career.
Uhlirova have made two of them back-to-back in the last 7 months (Aug 08 - Nov 08, Nov 08 - current) with a single win between them.
Remarkably, her doubles ranking has only dropped from #19 to #41 over this period.
Even more remarkable is that the 20 losses were achieved with 11 different partners!
