I personally don't have a problem with Salma. Many Mexicans felt that "Frida" should have been made using the Spanish language instead of English. I have to side with Salma... the movie was funded with American money.

I've never had anyone ask me that. Instead, I've been asked if I was Chinese, Filipino, or Thai. I don't get mad, but I almost make the :retard: face and ask what part of me looks Asian?

Heh. I just remembered at this one hospital I worked at, I had to get pudding for a patient at the kitchen and I came across the Mexican cook yelling at these teenage boys that worked there as well and he said something "No no I'm not Colombiano!" and he looked mad at them too!

I think she has a strange looking head, so I don't really like her, but she's a favorite in my family, so I don't think she's seen as unloyal with ALL Mexicans. I'm not even really aware that people thought that...

But that small head of hers is so weird...

I don't ... sometimes it's hard to tell which accent comes from which region :o so I understand when people get confused about nationalities. I am often told I don't sound Mexican ---> *I'm still thinking about what that means* I have a very neutral accent when I speak spanish, but then again most people from central Mexico speak a very neutral lenguage.

and I thought it was the nastiest stuff in the world. I hurled, the second time I had some el Jimador but it was mixed with coke and tasted better. Phoebo, I went to Wichita,Kansas a couple of years back and stayed the week there for a conference and I hated it. I thought it was the worst place in the world. Horrible Malls, restaurants, horrible convention center although the Hyatt next to it is nice. The Mexicans I met there though, the ones that worked in the hotel were the nicest people ever. Some of them were from Jalisco also and not even that far from where I am from so we talked. To bad I didn't say bye to them before I left. They were really surprised someone that spoke Spanish would stay there . Also , I am guessing ther aren't very many hispanics in Kansas because I was at some Burger place,I forget what it's called. It has a 50's theme but once you get inside it's just a glorified McDonald's and there was this really nice airforce Mexican guy and he was like do you speak spanish and he was so happy so we talked a bit while we were in line but then he left=( Anyhow, the people are nice it seems and Wichita has the best Chinese restaurants.

first off let me say all the Mexicans i've met or dealt with personally have been gracious and quite stoic about my butchery of their language. (well 'cept that one dude that took exception to my request to stop standing on his seat during a futbol match)

do Mexicans view black folks as adversaries? do they think we have things in common and the status quo would rather pit us as enemies?

do Mexicans view black folks as adversaries? do they think we have things in common and the status quo would rather pit us as enemies?

I always thought the two cultures got along well...there's still that stupid concept of both cultures being at the bottom of the barrel :tape: which of course it's very stupid and ignorant, but it's that same concept that has made both cultures bridged, no? thought there is some truth to what you said " the status quo would rather pit us as enemies" I'm no expert to say how prominent those feelings are, but I remember when I was in high school our P.E teacher would always select teams and somehow there was always an all hispanic team versus an all black team :tape: and the rest of the students will stand and watch. It became so repetitive that it was obvious that we're some sort of freak show for the amusement of our teacher :tape: God I hated that class:tape:

Question... A lot of Mexicans *at least in TX from what i see* really grasp the black culture..(clothes, slang, mannerisms) why you do think its so popular among mexicans (and puerto ricans)

...that is so funny that you ask that question  I have noticed it too... is it because it looks cool? also when different cultures blend there's always traits that are adopted so easily.

ps:* for those who are into soccer* Argentina is killing Serbia and Montenegro 6-0   OMG it's horrible and embarrassing !!:o someone should stop the match now!

ok i have another question. it may be considered 'ignorant' but that's why i'm asking: i want to learn.

how much different are Mexican dialects of Spanish from actual spanish learned in american schools.
like, i'm in 12th grade in America and i'm taking my third year of Spanish. would i understand a Mexican using a dialect of the spanish language when he/she talks to me?
i hope that made sense and didn't sound politically incorrect.

i'm asking because when i went to buy a spanish dictionary, one shelf was full of various 'Mexican dictionaries' and i was curious.

spanish slang is not very different, you can understand perfect. its not like in Belize that thtey are speaking english bu tyou canīt understand a thing

but some people use their ancestors lenguages from the past "lenguas indigenas" does come from different tribes.

Chiapas its the state where they use this lenguages more. But more and more, they are disapearing

well... there is a small difference, plus you also have to take into account slang, the Spanish learned from American schools is very basic. If you excell at it, you shouldn't have any problem understanding/ holding basic conversations if you go to Mexico. However, if what you want is complete mastery of the Spanish lenguage perhaps you might benefit from a private tutor( we're talking about learning proper Spanish and not just your basic "mi casa, tu casa" ;) , right? )

If you mean native Mexicans who can speak Spanish... yes...but if you mean Native Mexicans who speak a native lenguage from that region no... RainyDays most people in Mexico speak Spanish so it shouldn't be a problem for you, unless you find yourself in a place where it's hardcore native and noone speaks Spanish...then I would see a problem with communication.
As for slang, most slang in Mexico is very basic and easy to understand... that is unless you go to Mexico City and then all bets are off :p I remember going to Mexico City and having some difficult time understanding certain words :tape:

Mexico is a such a beautiful land with such rich resources. Just wondering why Mexicans in the United States have never tried to band together and take the country back from the obvious lack of political leadership it has always had.

From my studies over the years, Mexico always had such potential to be such a powerful nation like the States and Canada. Just have always scratched my head why it still isn't.

I guess it makes me confused sometimes that with all the controversy of border control, Mexico has fought so hard to be it's own country that even in the 2000's, the people still have to leave the land to make it in life.

Lately there's been talk of Mexicans in the USA rising up soon, since it's projected that they will outnumber white people very soon, but I can't say why they don't do it now. I think a lot of them are just grateful to be in America (although some Americans, like myself, sometimes are not :o )

As for the border controversy...I think it's pretty lame considering that this a country founded upon immigration, and a lot of our industry depends on immigrants.

Pheobo Hispanic-Americans are important to our society as any other group. I just have a problem that there is so much talk about Mexican Pride that they forget about the one important thing that should be a factor in many lives is that of their homeland itself.

Mexico is such a beautiful land, I just can't believe Mexican citizens would just want to see it let go.

Mexico actually promotes people leaving their country to go to the states because a lot of immigrants send dollars back to Mexico for their families, which actually does a great deal for the Mexican economy. There was a big thing about this when we found out that Mexican officials were distributing pamphlets on the best ways to get across the border.

I think I understand what you mean... but still I need to correct you on that :o for a Mexican-American it would be different... you just can't paired both an actual American citizen with someone who actually came as an immigrant to this country... that tiny bit makes a world of difference. A Mexican-American can show you pride about his heritage, especially when those horrible stereotypes are still alive, but their nation it's still the United States of America.

..er.. I don't know about that...that might be a bit too general though.I know about that scandal but even in the worse case scenario it would be a very select few who actually promoted that.Especially when you take into account that most who risk to come here illegally won't make it alive, even if they take an easier "route." I do think there's something to be said about people not wanting to stick around to change their own country...could it be that they are so heartbroken about their own government that it seems easier to just leave all behind? ...saying that, I always get a good laugh whenever I hear some uneducated soul say that there're 5 million illegal Mexicans in U.S soil  that number is not realistic :tape: but oh well...

The country is founded on immigration of people who
want to be Americans. In the last 50 years, it's been
founded more on legal immigration, and before that.
What is on the table now is illegal immigration, largely
from Mexico, of people who don't consider themselves
American, and don't particularly even like America.

Mexico keeps out illegal aliens at gunpoint and with
bullets. We invite them in, catch 1 out of 1,000, and
slap them on the wrist, and that's about it.

Rise up and take back America? It wasn't theirs to begin
with. The only ones who can 'rise up' and take back America
are the Indians, and they don't consider 'Mexicans'
Indians. Not by a long shot. The Spanish and Mexican
govt. took land from the Indians, and not in a kind manner.
How do you think Mexico got to be the size it is, by
invitation? Gunfire, the Catholic Church with a gun
at the side, and conquest.

It's shameful that the Mexican govt., of either side,
PRI, or any other party, hasn't done more to create
a strong Mexican economy, considering it has oil power.
Corrpution, drug cartels, corrupt police & military,
terrible healthcare, etc. Great national pride, and sadly,
not much else in the year 2006.

How about the Mexican nationals taking back their own
nation? Why haven't they? Why bother, they just come
here, and make money, find out it's better than Mexico,
and stay, yet long for their home nation. Go back, fix
that one, I'm for it.

Any nation with a citizenry that is as hard working,
family oriented, religious, and loyal to the nation should
be a powerhouse by now, Japan-esque. It's not. The
govt. is the main reason, but, the people have to
bear some of that responsibility too. They have to
demand better- they generally don't. It's easier to
blame America, or to go to America, or both. The level
of living in Mexico has not improved dramatically in
years. That's not the fault of anyone but the Mexican
people at this point - fix your own nation. Fox promised
the sun and the moon ,and he's delivered on almost
nothing.

The left wing candidate had a huge lead for over a year
in Mexico for the upcoming election, now, it's gotten closer. PRI struggles in the national election, but, still controls most of the national politics.

Obrador, the leftist has said some things I like .He's
against NAFTA, and he said illegal immigration is an
embarrassment to the Mexican people. I agree! Right
now, the election could go either way, but, Obrador is
much more of a personality than the Fox hand picked
guy.

They're whining we should stay out of election. I agree.

Please stay the heck out of our politics
and elections too while you're at it Mexico.
Take back your own country and fix it so your citizens,
and your best of the next generation stop coming to

Although I'm American and proud of it (most of the time), I strongly believe that the US unjustifiably took Mexican land during the Mexican American War in 1848. Yeah okay, Texas wanted to be a part of the US. But why didn't we stop there? Was it really necessary for us to go so far as to declare a war for the Southwestern part of today's US? yeah, the Mexican American war was fuggly...though either way the natives were at loss :( Technically the Aztecs,Mayas, Incas, and other native cultures were extensions from the first native fathers in North America.Though, what I was refferring to was that many California Mexican-California Native families were force to immigrate to the south(now Mexico of today) after the east took over...now generations after some of those families are coming back to that same land.*It was a silly little point I was trying to get across after I read Samsung's post ;)* though what really got me was this part:
