Well, seems like she's going to make it this year, if she doesn't get injured! She only has sth like 300 pts to defend until the end of the season.

The earlier she could get the top spot back might be after Wimbledon (but Amelie & Kim will have to be playing horribly until then for Justine to have a chance do it).

If she stays healthy she might end 2006 as no.1 :)

To the final of tour... if she keep playing consistent ..

If Amelie gets bounced early at Wimbledon, and Kim has trouble defending her summer harcourt points, Justine could slip in before the US Open. Justine needs to go deep at Wimbledon to pull this scenario off though. A lot depends on how the Wimbledon draw looks and how Kim plays this summer.

Well here's what we know:

Before the US Open, Justine is defending the following points:

1st round Wimbledon
Finals Rogers Cup

Given the fact that this year, Justine has made it to the finals of 5/8 tournaments she's played, including 2 grand slam tourney's, it goes without saying that she'll likely improve her Wimby results.

Kim is not on fire and not as motivated to win like last year. I don't think Kim will have as successful a hard court season as last. Amelie isn't playing as well as most thought she would so far this year.

Justine has 4th round points at the US Open to defend.

Based on her results this year so far, it is likely Justine will become #1 sometime during the hardcourt season. And deservedly so. She's won grand slam title every year the past four years. It is only a matter of time before she regains her throne.

i think that she would be there after Madrid...
She needs to win Wimbledon and Amelie n Kim to lose in the 1R to get it after Wimbledon...
Amelie isnt defending much in the Summer
and she doesnt really do well in the Indoors...

I voted never, but there's a possibility that she could be number for a few weeks at a time, but I don't think she's ever going to be number one for a very long time because her body keeps breaking down on her.

Amelie has virtually nothing to defend after Wimbledon. A Pilot Pen final, Toronto Semi, and lost early at San Diego. But because she has played so much, more than the 17, some of those don't even factor into her ranking.

Kim is not the type of player to lose to people she is ranked higher than. At Wimbledon, expect a quiet QF or SF like the French. I would not be surprised to see her do damage, she has quietly made her way through the season with modest results.

Justine, however, has the most to gain. Everyone is on high confidence with her after her French victory, but not in any match was she impressive. She was good enough to beat her opponent every time. But hey, that's all that is needed so maybe there is something left in reserves.

Justine will likely reach # 1 before the year is over, but Amelie will be with her for it.

Let's not forget Petrova and Kuznetsova. They may be ranked low, but they have virtually NOTHING to defend in the second half of the year. Kuznetsova looks like she might be No.1 sometime in the fall if she keeps her form up.

The year end championships is pretty major...

She'll likely be #1 somewhere during the US hardcourt series or most probably after the USO if she keeps up her form.

Allez Justine! :yeah:

Probably after USO, MIGHT take until the end of the year when Amelie's YEC points drop off...anyway, I wish this poll was a public one, because people who said never are DELUSIONAL.

Wishful thinking on their part.

While it's certainly possible that Justine may not reach the top spot again, it's foolish to write it off as a possibility :)
