I'll swap the stinging nettle and a plant called bush lawyer and sleeping close to about eleven smelly dogs and an old bastard who snores like a boar with tonsilbloodyitis, not very good weather here, I should stay home and check tennis scores:)

Nice Job VERA!!

However, it has to be noted that Anna's play has gone significantly down since this time last year. What has happened to her?

Anna must do better than this.

Will this tournament get Vera back on track? Probably not but I hope so. She is too good of a player to be ranked so low.

Vera played well, although Anna needed the trainer and after that kept spraying balls everywhere

Hey isnt grass like Bepas worst surface???

i wouldn't say that - she's a two time 4th rounder in Wimbledon, in her great 2004 she lost in her grass swing to sharapova in two (including a tie breaker), kuzzy in three (had MP, no?) and loost to davenport in WIM 4-6 4-6.
that's great grass players to lose against in excelent scores. she reached the semis of one of the warmups too, so that's a good tourny.
she still isn't a master of the surface - but her doubles skilz and her aggressive baselining, when on - make her a solid player for the surface.
if anything - it's the carpet that should trouble her.

Anna, disappointing form recently, this certainly should have been your match on grass. :(

Vera, what an amazing job. On a roll indeed. :D

Now here is some good news from Vera!... All that crying was so painful to watch.
She always seemed to have this plucky personality.
Can someone remind me of a night match against Serena where she gave Serena all she could handle for 3 sets and barely lost?
I think it was a tournament in California for some reason.

As much as I wanted Anna to win I'm not surprised by this result. I watched both of them play on Wednesday and Vera was definitely playing the better of the two. Shame for Anna because she was defending points and it makes her Wimbledon seeding doubtful.

I think it was a tournament in California for some reason.Los Angeles QF 2004, Serena, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Even more amazing was the incredible 2 hr 28 min San Diego SF 2004 where Vera lost to Myskina, 6-2, 6-7(4), 7-6(15).
