I'm being realiztic.. She has been known to withdraw a lot. Don't be shocked if she doesn't play Cincinnati.

she would not ask for a WC if she didn't want to play there. i think i'm smelling a hater alert that doesn't want the tour's dominant player back

I hope she doesn't over do it. It's one thing to get your ranking back up, it's another to re-injur yourself and end up back in square one.

If she's eager to play, injury-free and finally ready, then:

Cincinnati
San Diego
Los Angeles
Montreal
US Open

looks like a good and even realistic schedule. Perhaps not Montreal. Is there still that WS rule that they don't play the same tournament except Miami and the slams? Perhaps risk Montreal from that list since Venus will probably be there. If so, then she could play New Haven or Stanford since Venus isn't listed on these events (that I know of).

It's been said before, but err... Stuttgart will host the tournament that belonged to Fildestadt until last year, so Serena won't be there unless there's an exhibition match and I'm doubting it.

I think TOP players can't play Tier III and Tier IV the weeks there are Tier I events happening, I'm not sure. In this case however only Venus wouldn't be able to play, since Serena isn't ranked as a top player as of now.

I don't think so Serena has never played more than two consecutive tournies in her career. I mean knowing she's injury prone I don't see her jeapordizing her health.

She'l play either Sandiego or LA but not both. I believe she'l go with LA and Canada, she's almost always played LA when healthy and she must have good memories from playing in canada.

She will not play that many tournaments. The way to figure it out is to look at the tournaments Venus isn't playing. They rarely play the same events.

No more Filderstadt? Really :awww: No more Porsche's being given out for winning the tournie that sucks. Anyway Filderstadt is in Stuttgart anyway so I guess it makes sense.

serena NEEDS a wildcard now at every tournament she would plan to play. maybe not cinci, but certainly ALL the other uso tuneups.

sfselesfan
Jun 15th, 2006, 03:57 PM
She does need wildcards, but nevertheless, she still would not ask for one if she was not intending to play.

i'm not saying this will happen, but there have been plenty of instances where players ACCEPTED wildcards and didn't end up playing. wildcards are no different than any other "commitment" on the tour.

that said, i think she WILL show up in cinci AND do well there.

I agree. I don't think she's be making statements in articles if she wasn't serious.

but afterall she's serena willaims. she could easily get 9 wildcards for the rest of the year and just pick and chose.

sfselesfan
Jun 15th, 2006, 04:07 PM
Agreed, but I think if she were going to do that she'd have agreements with the tournaments to keep it hush hush until she's sure she wants to play. For all we know she already has wildcards to every tournament left this year and she's only announced Cincy.
