Maria Had 5 Double Faults :fiery: but she still won

Maria, I knew it was gonna be a wee bit tougher than their rankings would suggest given Ahsha is a Qualifier. Anyway, this is better as a first match. Hope you sort out the things you need to on grass Masha and keep healthy! :)

Congrats! :D

This is a very good result for maria, all things considered. I was expecting it to be a little closer, given that:
1. ashe is no pushover and has just qualified
2. all of the rain and rescheduling aren't easy to cope with
3. maria 's first match on a wildly different surface to clay
4. maria prolly still just feeling her ankle and not wishing to get too carried away.

so, all in all, rather satisfying from masha!

looks like maria had some trouble out there, but hopefully she'll keep winning in straight sets and defend her title.

ahsha was really good. I was at hte match.

Maria didnt play well. There were very few rallies and lots of UEs from Maria. Ahsha definately could have beaten Maria out there, the first set was v close!!! Ahshas attitude got in the way a bit in the second set. I think she put her expectations too high.

She troubled Maria as Maria feeds off pace, and Ahsha kept slowing the rallies down and therefore caused Maria to make the UEs. They both had a fair few aces, but wasnt very inspired by Sharapova! The rain delay was annoying as when they came back on Maria had her serve broken straight away.

Ahshe Rolle had quite a heavy strapping on her knee so I think she was having trouble in baseline rallies when Sharapova was hitting wide down the lines. This was probably the reason why Rolle serve-and-volleyed quite a bit; it seemed to be quite successful too. Maria looked pretty uncomfortable coming into net and I think if Ahshe hadn't employed this tactic the match would have been over much sooner.
