Tennis / Peer's new coach shooting for Top 15
By Rami Hipsh

Shahar Peer rose yesterday to her highest ever WTA ranking at 24 in the world, but her new coach, Adam Peterson, is aiming a lot higher.

"Our goal is that wins over top 20 players will be a regular thing for Shahar," said Peterson, who recently replaced Peer's coach over the past six years, Oded Ya'akov. "We want her to feel like one of them, and make the jump to the top 15 players in the world.

"Peer has enormous potential," added Peterson, who coached former world number one Lindsay Davenport until last year. "Her serve is even more powerful than Davenport's, and is still learning." :p

Peer, who will compete at next week's Eastbourne Tournament, said she is settling down with her new coach.

"We are learning to work together," Peer said, adding she was surprised by her popularity following her success at the French Open.

"People stop me on the street," she said. "There isn't a person who doesn't recognize me, and I find that amazing. Even 50-year-old women stop me and say they saw me on television. I hope it continues like that. It will depend very much on what I achieve in the future."

It didn't look that good when I saw her play against Shinobu Asagoe at the AO. Its either improved alot in the few months or he is just biased

I think there must be some mistake she has a pretty weak serve if my memory serves me right.

He really meant to the serve? cause yes she has alot of power, but not exactly on her serve from what I've seen. Anyway I'm happy to see that they are glad together.

Maybe she has the most powerful serve when she doesn't have to get the ball anywhere near the court.

Or possibly she uses some weapon from the army to serve at 200 MPH... :p

I remember her second serve was in the 60mph range at RG

Maybe he meant that Shahar's first serve is more powerful than Davenport's second?

And anyway, Lindsay never had the most "powerful" serve on tour - it was always about placement.

Maybe when she's training! :p

OTOH I'm impressed by Shahar's ranking... One year ago I wouldn't have betted on such a climb! :bolt:

I saw Shahar play Hingis at the French and her serve is most certainly nowhere near more powerful than Lindsay's.

But I do think she has the groundstrokes to be a top 15 player. She plays very flat off both sides and her power troubled Hingis at times, it wasn’t a comfortable match for Martina and she had to step it up to close out the win.

maybe he said that because one of the last things he compared it to was elenas serve

He probably meant that it was going to be more powerful, though how he could tell that, I'm not sure>P

Damn, Adam and Lindsay must have left on bad terms

Maybe he meant in direct proportion to their height?

(height x surface)/pi + mitigating factors=serve speed

maybe when Lindsay first started

Either Adam is on drugs or he's just bitter about the end of working together w/ Lindsay... anyways this man is still cute :hearts:

It couldn't be bias Lindsay dumped him out of the blue at the end of last year and all. Wait until Lindsay plays Peer and then it might get interesting.
