View Full Version : Will Fran bump Venus out of the top 12?

With Wimbledon seedings due at the end of this week, a birmingham final will send Francesca Schiavone past Venus in the rankings, dropping venus to critical #13, meaning without a special seeding, venus would be forced to face amelie/kim/justine/maria in the round of 16 (hingis in the same position)

will fran pull it off? if so, what does that mean for venus and the top 4 at the AELTC?

is wimbledon not doing their special seeding thing this year?

Well if Wimbledon is not doing its special seeding, get ready for some BIG matches in the fourth round. I mean, Venus possibly against Justine, or Martina against Maria or viceversa...it's going to be brutal.

doubtful that schiavone will get the final.

but even if she does and bumps Venus, we don't know if Davenport and Mary are going to play.

anywho. . .round of 16 is getting more interesting, because all are capable of playing a good match and knocking each other out in the right circumstances. but that said, I would suspect that the top four are praying that schiavone loses early!

Its freaking grass, I doubt Schiavone will make it very far

Schiavone and grass is like Francesca with men, you just don't expect her to do well when it comes to either. She surprised us once, she might do it again.

I dont think Venus cares about her seeding. Look at last year. I hope Fran does well! Go girl!

Venus is the top grass court player out of the WTA TOUR. numbers and rank position mean nothing with the stats that Venus OWNS.

I don't think Venus cares about the seedings.

Venus has to play well enough to win all the matches. Against anybody.

The draw doesn't work like that. She could face 1-8 regardless of where she is in the 9-16 set. She could be ranked 9th and face the #1 seed in the r16. She could be ranked 16th and face the #8 seed in the r16. The drawing at slams is confusing, but not as confusing as people make it out to be.

I think Wimbledon will put Venus in a top 12 seeding anyway.

Nope - the 1-4 seeds are drawn against the 13-16 seeds, and the 5-8 seeds are drawn against the 9-12 seeds. :)

In round of 16, 1-4 seeds play 13-16, and 5-8 play 8-12 seeds
QF it reverses, 1-4 seeds play 8-12, and 5-8 play 13-16 should seeds hold.

yes I agree, and honestly usually the first week of the slams is a bit of a snoozer on the women's side.
.. I would love to see a great Vee match up in the first week.
sux to be her opponent!

why do people say that Venus doesnt care about her seeding...didnt she say that she would like to see her rankings go up in some of her interviews...look for it...she said it...

If Venus cared about her seedings she would have competed more in her career...I remember in 2000-2001...she was the most dominant player on the tour. She was consistently ranked #3 in the world...but she only did 10-14 Tournament...I was like how can this girl be on this incredible winning streaks, win US Open & Wimbledon and still not pass Hingis?......low and behold...Hingis competing in 20+ matches, and here you have Venus with 11...

The only competition that Venus..has...@ Wimbledon is HERSELF!

anyway, i think Venus plays better with tough draw.
