Mary Pierce used to be good at it.

Yes, Mary did it alot to get girls off back in one of the best forms i've ever seen for a woman tennis player back in 2000 clay court season.

Hingis has always been the master of this, as well as Monica Seles.

Hingis, and I've seen Daniela Hantuchova do it a few times.

Monica, although that's technically her forehand that I'm thinking of, but her backhand can do it too. But currently, probably Hingis.

Daniela, Lindsay, and Martina

Lindsay also has good crosscourt shots on her backhand, probably not that much of topspin for her

No one on tour comes close to Martina she is fantastic at it, she knows how to use the shot and how to use her brain on the court to think her way through anything

When Hingis hits that shot, you just go "What the...? Where did that come from?" I remember very specifically the 1997 US Open Final, she hit a stunning one to out-maneuver Venus Williams and it was the highlight shot of the match for Hingis.

In addition, Serena Williams on clay circa 2002 (?) had a highly dangerous crosscourt short angle backhand, but I don't recall the level of topspin on it. That was the shot she won the French with, though.

Incidentally, way to bust out a random topic!

Yes, Serena Williams won RG 2002 with that shot. Since then she never did it again! It was so effective that she made everyone realize she's just not a ball basher but uses her brain for once. She needs this shot back when she returns this summer.

Hantuchova plays that shot awesomely.

Of course Marti but Barbara Schett could play that shot very effectively too. I distinctly remember her use it against Marti in a semi final in the Sydney tournament. It pulled Marti way out of court but unfortunately for Schett Marti drilled it down the line over no net to hit a winner. :)

Damn i love it when she does that.

Seles is also a master of rolling topspin shots very short crosscourt. :worship:

I remember one point of the French-Open quarters when Cappy played Serena...somewhere in the match Serena hit an amazing "Crosscourt Short-Angle Topspin Double-Handed Backhand-Winner". Although it was a mishit it was a great shot...think I've never seen such an angle before.

Didn't she use it on match point against Capriati in the semis of RG? I loved that shot!
