View Full Version : What's happened to these players?

May 26th, 2002, 12:01 AM
Grzybowska (tough I heard she's playing Roland Garros? Where was she!?)

I've heard nothing of these players for months. What's happened to them? I know Lina's injured, but I guess it's a slow recovery? Her ranking is obviously suffering... She's #82 at the moment...
But what about the other players? Have they retired? Are they injured? Have they disappeared into the lower challenger and sattelite circuits? Or am I just not paying attention to them?

Add another name to that list:

Catalina Cristea

Lina K has been injured since the Australian Open. I am not sure when she is going to return. Since her ranking will drop very low after Roland Garros, I assume she won't return until at least July/August so she can get an injury ranking.

Joannette Kruger is injured, according to her page on the WTA site. Noorlander is still active, she was in Warsaw the other week and reached the second round there. She's also in the Roland Garros main draw. Grzybowska was injured and is making a return. Parkinson, all I know about her is that she plans to play for fun this summer before getting married. She's in a 10K this week. She's also taking up a position as a coach at a University sometime in the fall. Wartusch and Boogert just seem to have dropped and are still playing qualifying. Same with Brandi. I am not sure about Nola or Cocheteux, however.

Holly Parkinson is retiring soon and getting married.

Amelie Cocheteux hasn't been the same since that "Sandra Stevendon" incident.

Pavlina Nola is retired
Karina i guess has finished with the game as well.

Kristina Brandi plays Iva Majoli in the first round of RG. Thought I saw some of the names in qualies.

Damn! She retired too, Catalina? Guess I missed that... Did she quit a long while ago, coz I haven't heard anything from her for about a year I think...

And Pavlina too, damn... Wasn't she playing Kim at OZ some time? Last year I think? Did she quit a long time ago?

And what's the Alexandra Stevenson incident, BTW?

May 26th, 2002, 12:18 AM
Anne-Gaelle Sidot and Amelie had an incident with Sandra Stevenson at Wimbledon 2000 where Sandra alleged that they called Alexandra racist names, they denied it, heated words were exchanged.

Also there were reports that some " Girly Slaps" might have occured

Verve, Catalina played a couple of events last year but she has retired now...

Pavlina Nola last played at the Australian Open (I think) losing to Husarova in the first round.

I was also suprised to see Brandi at RG cos I hadnt seen her name in a while.

I was wondering about Grzybowska myself a while ago & then I read she was injured for 10 months in a row! as we all know that can be a REAL drag on a persons ranking.

Wartusch played in Vienna two weeks ago and reached the semis by beating Silvia Farina Elia, Rossana Neffa De Los Rios and Christina Torrens Valero. In the semis she lost to Anna Smashnova.

Pretty sure all these four are playing Wimbeldon. Boogert is still playing doubles with Oremans I think -- I saw them in SC I'm pretty sure.
