Nice win for Amelie! She looked pretty solid to me, excepting the predictable nervous wobble towards the end of the second set, but recovered well from that to take it in 2.

8 aces :worship:. Where are the haters *coughmsharafancough* when Momo won a match? Wasn't she supposed to lose and choke?

Great fight from Meghann though. Bad draw :fiery:.

oh my bad, I thought they would have the british commentating (the ones I've heard from matches I've downloaded on wtaworld.com, they aren't as negative  it's a man and a woman, can't recall their names unfortunately :o)

I think the stuff about her nerves is over-rated right now. I'm not saying they don't play a part, but the only time she's really lost her pants completely was against Jana Kandarr 5 years ago. Perhaps she didn't play her best against Dementieva and Ivanovic and Serena, but they are quality opponents who have beaten her elsewhere as well.

Obviously she is one of the players you just never know -- her potential 2nd round opponent Vera D. beat her last year on grass -- but I have faith she'll make it to the second week.

Can't wait to see this one... hopefully ESPN won't let me down. Amelie's stats are excellent, and from the looks of it they needed to be, because Meghann's are solid as well. I'm disappointed for Meghann, because I bet she could have done some damage with a better draw. But nice opener, Amelie! Keep up this level and we'll be seeing you in the second week! :yeah:

i totally agree with that. :)
2001 was probably the only year where you could really say that she lost because of her nerves and the pressure (she was the BIG favourite to win it that year)

very close and intense match but amélie played great especially on her serve(80% with 7 aces :) )

she was moving well, it wasnt good conditions to play, much wind but she was really calm and in control of this match, her first match in roland garros as n°1, we saw how difficult it can be to play a first round in such a tournament, federer had difficulties.

But this ace on match point was just :worship:

ahahahah for those who said that she will fail  :tape:

Allez Amé!!!!!!!!! :bounce:

Meghann

It seemed to be a solid match and a good fight from Meghann - something she hasn't been doing so much until a few weeka ago...
