I think it's Jelena Dokic (ranked then #129) beating my sweet Martina at Wimbledon in 1999.
But I'm not quite sure if she was the lowest ranked.

The lowest-ranked player Lindsay Davenport ever lost to was at the 1992 Houston event when a then 228-ranked Lindsay lost to a then 537-ranked Iva Majoli in the first round.

I believe that is the last time Lindsay ever lost to a player ranked outside the top-100. I know she lost to Chanda Rubin early in her career (but Linds was a top 50 player by then) when Rubin was ranked 94.

But that is the lowest I think since Linds' loss to Majoli.

What about Claudine Schaul? I think she was ranked outside the top 100 when she beat Linds in Strassbourg

No she was ranked 63 at time she beat Lindsay in Strassbourg. Lindsay was in the top 5 at the time and rarely lost to players outside the top 20 little lone the top 50.

The irony is Claudine eventually fell out of the top 100 after that match.

Didn't Daniela lost to Mélanie Gloria who was ranked 900??

Melanie was actually unranked when she beat Danka. I like both, but I was devastated when that match finished, i was the only one with Wiggly from here also to cheer for Danka. I had given her some fan comments a few days earlier, and she was playing really bad and Nigel left, so she was always doing all those sad and puppy looks to me who was in the first row

Stephanie's loss to Ia Jikita still haunts me. She had a final to defend and she loses round one to a WC, from Georgia, 5-7 7-6 6-0.

Venus' worst loss raking wise was Jeyaseelan, but I also like Sonya. What's with my faves losing to Canadians while we all know we don't perform that great :tape:

I remember that match. Daniela even did "the bathroom break"
The crowd was crazy. After the match she left fastly so I ran to catch her for an autograph but when I arriver at the player entry, she was walking for leaving and 2 little girls told me she was crying  .

I really hopes she will come back one day. Last year she didn't come because she ws injuried. Maybe this year she will come :)

sveta was ranked 889 and 15 years old, dinara was 14!

i just looked through all of elena dementieva's career:

her worst losses:

1998 CERGY PONTOIS 50,000 (HO):
Lost to: BERENGERE KARPENSCHIF, (#433)
When Ranked: #184

1999 MIAMI QR2 (HO)
Lost to: TINA PISNIK, (#428)
When Ranked: #143

2000 GAZ DE FRANCE (I)
Lost to: LAURENCE ANDRETTO, (#201)
When Ranked: #62

2002 BOL (HO)
Lost to: THATIANA GARBIN, (#108)
When Ranked: #15 (she was top seed)

2002 BERLIN (CO)
Lost to: ANGELIKA ROESCH, (#125)
When Ranked: #15 (back to back weeks^)

2003 AUSTRALIA (HO)
Lost to: BARBARA SCHWARTZ, (#141)
When Ranked: #19

2003 BIRMINGHAM (GO)
Lost to: MARIA SHARAPOVA, (#125)
When Ranked: #15 (top seed, maria's first real big win here)

2004 TOYKO (I)
Lost to: TATIANA PANOVA, (#250)
When Ranked: #8

2004 GAZ DE FRANCE (I)
Lost to: TATIANA GOLOVIN, (#135)
When Ranked: #10

2004 WIMBLEDON (G)
Lost to: SANDRA KLEINOVA, (#129)
When Ranked: #6

i would say that her biggest lost came at the hands of panov, when she was ranked 250 because it was the first time she lost to someone outside the top 100 when elena was within the top ten of the world

then i would put kleinova at wimbledon, because she should not have lost that match, #6 vs #129 just after elena reached french open finals

there are so other ones that are more in terms of ranking difference, but those occured when she was young and inexperienced on the tour

Sonya Jeyaseelan. Ranked 140 that day.

what an awesome day that was ! Sonya :hearts:

For Conchita, I remind her losing extremely stupidly to some British WC in Wimbledon , Sam Smith , and to an Aussie WC named Sam Stosur in AO

Two tournaments after winning the Family Circle Cup beating Dokic, Seles and Sanchez-Vicario losing a combined total of six (!!) games, Mary Pierce lost her opening match in Strasbourg in 2000 to Germana Di Natale from Italy who I think was about No.400 in the rankings at the time, and who finished the year a lowly 197. Then in her next event, Mary triumphed at Roland Garros, giving the word 'unpredictable' a whole new meaning!!

it was in Madrid ;) (well, I think )
I remmeber that too , and Pierce went on to win the French , it was amazing

I still dont understand how she could lose to Di Natale
