why Romina didn't get a LL spot?

I am also confused. She was No.1 in qualifying... And she AT LEAST deserves to be at MD more than anyone else...

It's a new rule - the four highest ranked players who lose in last round of qualifying are drawn at random should a LL place become available!

unless Oprandi is injured this makes no sense!

I like Kirsten Flipkens and thus am happy that she got the LL spot :D ... but it is unfair for Romina Oprandi!

Poor Romina :( sucks that she missed out, but hopefully she can get in.

I hope Joanna gets in, but I doubt she was in the top 4. To be honest, I am surprised Kirsten was in the top 4 of final round losers, as she wasn't even seeded!

polishprodigy
May 27th, 2006, 08:34 PM
Does it go top 4 by current rank or by rank by acceptance of commitments

polishprodigy
May 27th, 2006, 09:04 PM
I just checked the player profiles on the rollandgarros site and it has Oprandi, Vakulenko, Skavronskaia and Woerle as the top 4 players who lost in the final round, with Flipkens as no.5. So it must have been a draw among all those who lost. That makes the most sense anyway.

Vakulenko BEAT Oprandi, so take her out, and Flipkens is #4.

That makes the most sense because that's, you know, what happened.

Next lucky 4 to draw is Oprandi, Skavronskaia, Woerle and Hradecka.

The new rule about LL is

"Lucky losers need even more luck

The rule regarding lucky losers in Grand Slam tournaments has changed this year. Previously, should a player in the tournament itself declare forfeit after the start of the qualifiers, the highest-ranked loser in the last qualifying round automatically got through. From now on, however, once the qualifiers have been completed, there will be a draw among the four highest-ranked losers of the final qualifying round to define the order in which lucky losers will replace those dropping out, should more than one player declare forfeit. If there are more than four forfeits, then the fifth-highest ranked player will go through, as was the case in the past."

BUT where can I find out the "Lucky loser playoff" results??

Vakulenko is the best qualifier, shes a former top 100 player whos just coming back from injury now, so thats why she had to qualify. Shes an especially good clay courter and reached R3 of RG once. Shes also in really good form on clay at the moment and I'd expect her to beat Meng :(
