Thanks CB! I'd be pleased with 5 wins in 7 first round mathces. Anything less would be dissapointing!

'Anna Kournikova (RUS) vs. Christina Wheeler WC (AUS)'
I'd expect Kournikova to win this, but thats only because I have no idea who Wheeler is.

'Anastasia Myskina(RUS) vs. Qualifier'
I'd expect Ana to beat whoever came through the qualifiers, because she's playing very well ATM.

'Elena Likhovtseva (RUS) vs. Fabiola Zuluaga (COL)'
I don't know too much about Zuluaga, but maybe Likhovtseva will be too good? Like I said though, I'm not sure.

'Elena Bovina (RUS) vs. Silvia Farina Elia [9] (ITA)'
I'd love Bovina to win, but I think Farina-Elia will take this in 2 close sets.

'Elena Dementieva (RUS) vs. Adriana Gersi (CZE)'
Depending on her injury status, I'd expect Elena to demolish Gersi, but Elena has a nasty habbit of losing to people she should be easily.

'Tatiana Panova (RUS) vs. Seda Noorlander (NED)'
I don't know alot about Noorlander, but I'd expect Panova to win.

'Alina Jidkova (RUS) vs. Wynne Prakusya (INA)'
Honestly, I don't know anything about either player. I've seen Prakusya in a couple of draws and getting a couple of wins this year, but I don't know how well either of them has done.

Like CAT, I predict 5 will go through.

Good luck Ladies at Roland Garros. I have a great feeling they will all do well.
The only "iffy" one IMO might be the Elena B./Farina Elia match but I think Elena will give Silvia a tough time. Sure wish we knew already who Nastya is playing.

May 25th, 2002, 09:22 AM
Pray Nastya won`t play a Russian qualifier.

May 25th, 2002, 09:24 AM
Alina plays Saori Obata not Prakusya
Alina should win this on clay or she will have me to face ;)

And yes Nastya better not get another Russian qualifier

Good luck to all! I know Nastya will win. Mmrrr, I hope Elena can win her match, she needs to get back to her old self!!!! C'mon!

Sorry, Likhotseva!!! Ahh! So many Elenas! LOL!!!

May 25th, 2002, 05:05 PM
Good luck to the Russian girls :) I expect 7 wins out of 7 matches

May 25th, 2002, 05:11 PM
Nina, make that 9 out of 9 ;)

Anastasia plays q-Shinobu Asagoe

Vera Zvonareva vs Maja Matevzic
Maria Goloviznina vs Barbara Schwartz

May 25th, 2002, 05:17 PM
9 out of 9 then ;)

May 25th, 2002, 05:21 PM
I believe Maria may be playing Barbara Schwartz. Babsi Schett does not need to be playing someone she has never faced (I think) with so many points to defend and her inconsistency.

May 25th, 2002, 05:56 PM
yes its Schwartz ...........

oopps I'll change it
so used to typing Schett :o

Come on Nina! Be realistic! Six out of nine would be fine! ;) Hey, I'm a poet!

May 26th, 2002, 12:37 PM
They've all got OK first round draws... apart from Elena L, as Fabiola's playing quite well right now, and Maria G - I think Schwartz will be too strong. I'm expecting six out of nine definitely, and hoping for seven out of nine if Silvia's tired from Strasbourg.

May 26th, 2002, 03:41 PM
hi everybody... sorry, Alina faces Obata, but I'm too lazy to change, hehe :)

Anna Kournikova (RUS) vs. Christina Wheeler WC (AUS)
Anna should handle this.... maybe 7-5 6-2

Anastasia Myskina(RUS) vs. Shinobu Asagoe
Nastya of course.. in fast straights ;)

Elena Likhovtseva (RUS) vs. Fabiola Zuluaga (COL)
Zuluaga in straights... she's a very strong clay-courter!

Elena Bovina (RUS) vs. Silvia Farina Elia [9] (ITA)
Bovina's serve won't be so effective on clay and Silvia :hearts: should come very confident from Strasbourg. Silvia in straights.

Elena Dementieva (RUS) vs. Adriana Gersi (CZE)
This match will be I guess the biggest proof on Dementieva's year. If she loses, I'll just be sure that she really lacks confidence. If she wins.. well, .. well done :p

Tatiana Panova (RUS) vs. Seda Noorlander (NED)
Tatiana in stragihts

Alina Jidkova (RUS) vs. Saori Obata (JAP)
no idea :o

good luck to Vera, i'm sure she can do it! also maria g :)

May 26th, 2002, 05:22 PM
no seriously I expect them to do well in the first round. I don't think Goloviznina will beat Shwartz and Bovina will have a hard time against Farina but I'm quite confident about the others :)

May 26th, 2002, 06:27 PM
Poor Maria G and Elena B  I think Tatiana and Nastya have the best draws, I'm with Nina I think they will do good in the first rounds. I'm confident about 7 / 9 (Elena D is still a question mark but I think she'll pull it off) .

I've just seen a photo of Alina Jidkova from Sarasota qualifying (I didn't know what she looked like before I saw the pics).
Isn't she gorgeous?

Nastya, I thought I saw a wrong score at work....I can't believe it.

May 29th, 2002, 01:09 PM
Ironic how it was the least fancied ones to get through... Elena L and Maria G I expected to lose. Anastasia  , Anna just unbelievable.

:bounce: at least Vera's through

At least Elena B. put up a really good fight today, she did win the first set, which no one expected.

But I agree with the general surprise at who is left and who is out already, after one single round!

Jun 1st, 2002, 04:44 PM
OK, Round of 16, we have the same results as in last years, two girls and one guy. The only difference, it is completely different people..
