She made the SF 5 straight years between 1997 and 2001. With better luck, she should have been champ at least 1 year

Agreed!

Jennifer came back at 25 and won her first SLAM ever. Hingis can win RG. It's all mental for her at RG. Yet when your playing tennis from age 9 to 22 you kinda need a break. She was BURNT OUT! Now she is back at her job.

I am excited to see her back. She wasn't my favorite but I like what she has to offer the game of tennis.

Martina is a woman who should have at least a few more slams...

should have beaten Graf at the FO...
should have beaten Capriati at the AO...
maybe could have beaten Majoli at the FO...

hopefully she'll make up for lost time this year!

wasn't Sharapova seeded #13 at Wimbledon?

Like many other players who should have won more slams but didn't - for e.g. the ones that make up your name - Lindsay and Monica

Well she SHOULD have won it in 1999. But a major brain cramp at 64 54 and Graf stormed back. Although, Graf picked up her game amazingly. That would have changed history. She would hav ebeen half way tot he Slam in 99, she would own 6 majors, and while we never know, I dont think she woul dhave lost first round Wimbledon that year.

I am just interested in seeing how the French crowd treats her.

She didn't win Roland Garros then, she wont win it now.
I dont want to see Hingis with more than 5 slams anyway.

Child, if Hingis in her form never wins a slam again, neither will the Williams sisters. So you better hope for better things from Ms. Hingis.

what you "want" can cloud your judgment... some people would say.

some would think you'd be afraid of seeing hingis complete the career slam AND have more slam titles... than say... venus williams, perhaps. that would certainly set her in another class of greatness.

I'm afraid she's not strong enough to win RG...

1999 F Steffi Graf (4) 4-6 7-5 6-2 (d. Mauresmo, Sanchez Vicario(7))

That was top entertainment
She was bitchy and crowd treated her accordingly. She fully deserved it.

Margaret Court "should've" won the Grand Slam in 1962, 1965, 1969, and 1973 (in addition to the one she did win in 1970). But then again, for whatever reasons, she didn't, and it wasn't meant to be in those years. I don't think it's possible to say Martina Hingis "should've" won, when she lost. In 1999 in particular, she just didn't have what it takes at the crucial moment when other champions close the door and take the title. A worthy and seasoned veteran made her play when Martina began showing nerves that had not been seen in her effort to get to that point in the match, and you really can't say Martina "should've" won. She, on several occasions (Majoli/Seles/Graf/Pierce) didn't sieze the day. It's not that she isn't capable, it's just that bigger girls took it to her. This year, however, she's got a better shot, probably than she's ever had and I'm rooting for her.

Should've, could've, would've...

She could win this year with a good draw.

She really did blow it in 99. She was totally outplaying Graf when she through a temper tantrum over a point she really did not need. Her caused disruption broke her momentum and gave Steffi a reprieve. Martina deserved the response the crowd gave her, a truly pathetic perfromance by a champion. I think she has grown up and appreciate her more now
