There were no real surprises in Paris when the seeds were announced in the week leading up to this year's French Open at Roland Garros. Respective world number ones Roger Federer and Amelie Mauresmo will top the list, as the second Grand Slam tournament of the year draws ever closer.

The current king of clay, Rafael Nadal, is seeded second in the men's draw, leading to the mouth-watering possibility of another final match-up between the men's world number one and two.

In the women's draw, Martina Hingis is rewarded for her steady rise in the WTA rankings, culminating in her victory in Rome last week, with a seeding for the first time in a major tournament since her comeback to the tennis tour. The Swiss former world number one will be the 13th seed in Paris.

Sorry to be the voice of doom, but I don't think either the men's or ladies' top seed will win.

Just two Americans in the top 16 in the men's (Roddick & Blake) and one in the women's (Venus) singles: I can't remember a year when that happened.

just hoping Ivanovic gets Hantuchova in 3r, and Dementieva or Schnyder in 4th, and ofcourse hopisng her injury is 100% over!

Also a hope someone withdraws and Jelena gets a seed spot. But if she doesn't hope she gets a decent draw!

Good luck to Myskina and Srebotnik :)

These seeds worry me. If luck is extremely unkind, we could see a quarter featuring:

1 Mauresmo (or 3 Petrova)
13 Hingis
9 Kuznetsova
5 Henin-Hardenne

It's really too bad Justine, Sveta, and Martina all missed the next highest seeding cutoff by one spot - it could make for some nasty draws.

Well my lucky number is 712 and 12. I was born on 7/12

Watch for

Momo seed (1)

Elena Dementieva seed (7)
Venus Williams seed (12):)

Maria Kirilenko seed (21) a combo of (12). and Nicole Vaidisova seed (17)

On the men we have Roger,Ancic,Robredo and Sebastian Grosjean... a FRENCHMAN.

My numbers have two FRENCH players... Hmmm. LOL

So, would that mean Venus would have to face Elena and then MOMO, Dawn Marie?

I noticed it moreso for the women because the American women have been so dominate, always, that if it wasn't for Venus there would be no American seed in the ladies draw
