Ditto. But when were Tier 1 events introduced? Weren't they something completely different during Virginia Slims' sponsorship of the tour?

They must've been around in the 80s if Evert was able to win 11. Maybe there just weren't as many tier 1's.

If we include Tier 1 level tournaments from te Virginia Slims days, Navratilova would jump up to about 34, and Evert would jump up into the 20's.

You are right, she has won each Tier 1 title at least one, she has also won 2 the Championship and the end of the year (twice) and, of course, 3 of the 4 GS. The French Open is the only important title that she hasnīt won yet.

I think this is the reason for her come back......she needs to prove to herself before the others that she is a legend of the game.....

Martina's probably the only one who have won every tier I at least once.
Lindsay has been winning in only 4 events, from 10 there are in the calendar:
Tokyo('98, 2001, '03, '04)
IW('97, 2000 and 4 more finals)
Zurich('97, '98; 2001, 2005)
and SD in 2004

San Diego was not a tier 1 when Venus won that tournament in 2000, 2001 and 2002.
