SHARAPOVA WIMBLEDON PUNT

Bookmakers William Hill accepted their biggest pre-tournament Wimbledon bet so far.

A Hills customer from London placed a £30,000 wager on Maria Sharapova to win the Ladies Championship at odds of 3/1, a potential payout of £120,000.

The bet was placed in Finchley-and was paid for with a cheque from another bookmaker!

As a result Hills have cut Sharapova from 3/1 to 2/1 to win the Wimbledon title.

"It is a very gutsy gamble and he is obviously taking advantage of the enhanced odds that we were offering because she is injured at present," said Hills spokesman Rupert Adams.

I don't think they should reveal that kind of stuff. If my brother goes to Vegas I will put 50 bucks on Lindsay to win Wimby :D

well this is good news this guy obviously knows a lot about the state of womens tennis if he is placing a bet of £30,000, and he obviously must be trusting in sharapova and i tend to agree. my theory is that maria hasnt entered many clay tournies cause she wants to get ready for wimby and not be too tired. also after last year when venus beat sharapova with a stunning display of tennis which venus hasnt yet reproduced i think sharapovas target this year is to get good enough to beat venus, and im sure this time maria will put on a stunning performance, and get her sweet revenge be it in the semis or final. trust me i see maria winning wimby this year and the person who put the £30,000 bet on her winning it is obviously very wise!

 I'm sure Venus would be very flattered to hear that Maria has been focusing all her energy in trying to "target" her at Wimbly this year :bounce:

I have a lot of money, but I'd never put $60K USD on a tennis match, you have to be kidding. I could get a new Cadillac and a Rolex for that!

The guy is either a genius or a fool! £30,000 is way too much to bet on someone (unless it's vCash of course!), even on a player with a grass court record like Sharapova's.

That would be smart betting by venus ;) considering that herself and Maria are probably the leading contenders. At least if Vee ended up winning over Maria, the prize money would make up for the 30 grand.

He has to be filthy rich because who would want to lose that much money, but didn't they say she would win it last year, it seems every year they have her winning it.

A 300,000 pounds bet with 3/1 odds... if she does win, that guy wins... 900,000 POUNDS!!! :spit:

Either that guy is really confident with Maria, or he must be her father - Yuri Sharapov.
