I know there was a thread about the NBA made just a couple of weeks ago, but im to lazy to look for it, so i just created a new one

anyways..its time to talk about the playoffs, last year denise and her spurs won, but now, eventhough im a heat/bulls fan, i think the Pistons are gonna win it all, not that im complaining though, i like the pistons too :D

Well, I think all the interest really is in the west.

I don't really see anybody in the east beating Detroit, the only team that could be good enough for that is Miami, but they are kind of a mess at the moment, if Shaq is healthy and Wade plays up to expectations and they get some help from Payton and Walker they might have a chance, but small.

The west is more interesting, can Kobe carry the Lakers to the Western Conference final? it's possible, not likely but possible.

If they win today (and it looks they will), they will face Phoenix without Stoudemire, Nash has been injured if he isn't 100% the Lakers can steal a win in Phoenix and then you know how tough it can be in Stapples center.

If they pass it, either the Clippers or Denver, both very winnable.

Now the final would be either Dallas or San Antonio, that would be another matter and another level, but Kobe did score 62 points against Dallas.

We will see, the important match up is San Antonio - Dallas, likely in the semis.

the Pistons look unbeatable, but it will depend, Miami might have a shot if Wade can keep his level up through the whole series (who knows what would have happened last year if Wade hadn't been injured).

that's the thing with Miami, the Pistons are 10 times better as a team, but Wade is one of those players that can change things, if he gets some help from Payton and the others they might have a chance, but I still bet on Detroit.

yes, I agree that his passion is important, and his defense most of the time, but the problem is that the Pistons are perimeter shooters so Alonzo won't be that effective against them.

Alonzo can help on the offense, but keeping the Wallaces busy so Wade can find his way to the rim. I still think Wade is the key but I don't believe he could beat the Detroit defense without help.

i dont think you can say that wade (or shaq) will be the key because they are the superstar of the team anyway, they are expected to do big.. i think being a key is the one who would be the x-factor, the one who would help the star of the team or the team itself..just my oppinion though :)

yes, I agree with you, that's what I mean when I say that Wade needs help.

but the point is that if that Wade is still the key. If he doesn't play at his best, it doesn't matter what the others do, the Pistons will win, when Wade is on even the Pistons can have trouble controlling him, if that opens the defense a little for others to score or if others keep the defense busy so Wade can penetrate then they might have a chance, but no Wade, no championships.

I've heard many times they say the MVP should be a player that makes him teammates better.

I say bullshit, then Darrick Martin should be an MVP candidate.

I agree that the MVP is not necessarily the best player, but MVP stands for Most Valuable Player

the take is simple, what would the team be without that player?

The Pistons without Billups? they would still be a championships candidate.

The Spurs without Duncan? they proved they can win without him, but they would probably not win the championships.

Dallas without Nowitzki? could make the playoffs maybe, but not even dream of winning a series.

Miami without Wade? sucks, wouldn't even make the playoffs.

Cleveland without James? do I need to tell you?

LA Lakers without Kobe? well, they would certainly get the highest chances for the lottery, I can't think of a team that would suck more.

the options are then for me Kobe, Wade and James, the 3 players that have proven to be more important for playoff bound teams.

but Kobe has been unreal this year, love him or hate him, call him selfish if you want, but really, when you are that good, it doesn't matter, not only the 81 points against Toronto, 62 points against Dallas (which is the second best team in the west) and the whole Dallas had 61 in the same periods!!!

It's not Kobe's fault that his teammates are not as good, but he carries the team on his back.

my vote definitately goes to Kobe.

Lebron with the Triple Double I'm very impressed. In regard to the MVP I don't even know what criteria half the voters use. Some say the best player, some say the best player on the best team, some say the most complete player, some say the player that does the most with the least. I'm too confused for this stuff.

Miami had more trouble than I thought, Wade was off for 3 quarters but picked up his game when it mattered.

Great job by Shaq, Walker had a good game also, specially defensively.

Gordon was very impressive for Chicago, but it was only close because Wade only played 1 quarter and slept the other 3, I don't expect that will happen again.

San Antonio - Sacramento wasn't a game, it was a massacre, San Antonio even played most of the last quarters with bench players. Artest, will you never stfu?

Look at the previous years winners. Nash isn't even an American, Garnet is one of the best players in the league but not one of the most marketables, Duncan marketable? :haha: :haha: :haha:

Brand played great, but didn't make as much of a difference as LeBron or Kobe, they really carried their teams to their playoffs on their shoulders, without help. Brand was very impressive, but wasn't better than Nowitzki, or Duncan, while Kobe, love him or hate him, was just from another world.

Miami had trouble cuz the Bulls can match up with them well. They might dominate the series, but they won't be blowing Chicago out.

Gordon was fantastic and Nocioni, Chandler, Hinrich had good games.

but Miami was hurt by Wade sleeping during the first 3 quarters and Haslem's ejection, and they allowed way too many wide open 3 pointers, I think Pat Riley will make the adjustments.

the problem with Chicago is size, they simply can't stop Shaq and they are lucky that Alonzo is still injured or they could well forget the paint.

I have nothing against Denver and I certainly would like a team other than the Spurs or the Piston win the championships, they are boring teams but very good.

But if the regular season is any indication, Denver performed well below of San Antonio, Dallas, Detroit, Miami and Phoenix.

They have a good team, but not something as compact as the Spurs: Duncan, Ginobili, Parker, Bowen, Finley, just look at their backups, Horry, Mohammed, Van Exel.

Detroit is even more compact, they are perfectly synchronized and their defense frustrates anybody.

Dallas has Nowitzki, and a good support team with Howard, Terry, Stackhouse, Dampier.

Anthony is good but he isn't LeBron, or Kobe or Wade, Camby is also very good but he ain't Duncan or Nowitzki, what else? K-Mart?, Miller? good players, but not much more, and no depth, the backups are not up to the task.

Denver has done a remarkable job by turning from a lottery team to a regular playoff team, but from there to be a championships contender there is a long way, they might be able to in the future but they are not ready, they simply don't have the players for that, and that's guaranteed, mark my words.

well, I wasn't too wrong.

the Lakers gave the Suns a run for their money, despite Bryant having an off night.

If the Suns are not careful and Kobe decides to wake up in game two, the Lakers can steal a win and then it will be very difficult to beat them in the Stapples center.

It doesn't matter they are a young team, it's a team that is tough in the playoffs.

New Jersey :haha: :haha: :haha:

Jermaine O'Neal showed crybaby Carter what leadership is all about.

The Pacers are tough, last year they gave Detroit trouble, despite the injuries and the suspensions, New Jersey is faaar from a tough team (tough with Carter?).

I don't know how some in the media consider them a darkhorse for the title, my ass, Carter is too delicate for that, Kidd can't do everything, Jefferson is good but not great and there isn't anybody else. Regular season in a pathetic division is one thing, playoffs is a different thing.

Denver has done a remarkable job by turning from a lottery team to a regular playoff team, but from there to be a championships contender there is a long way, they might be able to in the future but they are not ready, they simply don't have the players for that, and that's guaranteed, mark my words.

I've lived in Denver for about 8 years now and I've been with this team through the bad times, but the Nuggs just don't have the offense to get far in the playoffs. Outside of Melo and maybe miller they don't have a consistent offensive threat. Cotton Camby is great on D, but this team needs shooters really really bad. Until the Nuggs get shooters that can space the floor Melo will continue to see double and triple teams on the block and as we know when melo is off Denver usually don't win.

My Kings got destroyed. Call it false hope or being a dumb optimist, but I thought with a little luck and shaky play by the Spurs, that they may have a chance. I am still not giving up hope because I knew the Spurs would win Game 1 with ease. But, I am sure the Kings will get into a groove and attack the Spurs but Bibby really needs to step it up because he hasn't been nearly as good as he once was.

I really don't think KB8 had an off night. He was trying so hard to get the other guys involved because he knows as well as Phil know that if he drops 50 and the other guys don't contribute they won't win. The balanced attack is the only way they'll beat the Suns, but since the Suns don't play D LA has a good shot to win this series.

Carter is softer than Charmin I stopped respecting this guy after the Toronto crap. He is a whiner and I'll always refer to him as Half Man- Half a season.

the problem is that the Spurs are rarely shacky in the playoffs, and they have too many good players and all the options.

they have Duncan, if Duncan is not around, Horry, Mohammed or Nesterovic can at leat rebound.

If Parker is off, they have Ginobili (and viceversa) or they can toss in Finley.

They are tough defensively, they have penetration (parker, Ginobili), they are tough on the paint (Duncan), they can hit 3s, they really don't have many weaknesses if any, other than Detroit or Miami (if they finally learn to play together) I can't see anybody beating them, not even Dallas.

As much as I like Ron he did what you're never suppose to do and that is pull on Superman's cape. After Ron made those comments he fired up an otherwise quiet Spurs team, however if Ron and crew can run their offense more efficently than they did the other night and force Tim Duncan to beat them they have a great shot. The Spurs are good, but they're not nearly as good with a hobbled Tim Duncan. Manu and Parker are really good, but Tim is the engine that runs that team and if he continues to struggle with his injury than the Kings have the offensive firepower to keep up with the Spurs. The key for the Kings is to jump on the Spurs early in game 2 to establish their confidence because if they don't get their confidence back early they won't win game 2.

Kobe didn't shoot that much, that's true, tried to get his teammates involved, but when he did shoot, he missed, that's what I mean with being off, I didn't expect him to score 50+ but to be in the 30s.

well, living in Toronto and know the Carter saga pretty well, and although I don't totally blame him because the team's bosses suck (although they seem to be getting serious hiring Colangelo), but Carter's crybaby career didn't start last year. Last year he got angry at the team for hiring a rookie GM and he was right but he's been putting no effort and abusing jump shots for 3 years before that, and injured all the time  He could be one of the greatest, but doesn't have the balls for that.

Even guys like McGrady, when he wanted out of Orlando still played at his best while he was there, Carter simply wouldn't even try to play, demanded a trade but wouldn't make things easy by playing subpar.

I hope the Pacers sweep them (I don't like Kidd either).

VC quit on the team and I just can't respect that. If he didn't want to be on Toronto he should've never signed that max deal and he could've went wherever he wanted to. His production jump when he joined the Nets wasn't by mistake. The first rule in any sport is to give it all you have, but this guy didn't think that rule applied to him

Yeah, I was shocked Artest made those statements because even though i loved the Kings, it would take a miracle to win the championship, let alone taking on the gauntlet that is the Spurs. I have no idea why he would say that no matter how confident he is, and it was almost a slap in the face to the Spurs and I am sure they went into Game 1 with the thoughts of Artest's comments on their mind.

Kings have a good shot now that they proved they can hang with the Spurs even without their best player. They have to go into game three focused and relaxed. Their goal should be to keep the crowd pumped all day and if they can do that and play like they did in game 2 they have an excellent shot.

I don't know. I didn't see him. :o

I live in Australia and we get F%?K all coverage here so I've been following live scores via internet.

I play basketball, watch every game of our league and follow the NBA as close as possible, but it is quite hard to know the ins and outs of a club in America.

I know a bit about most players and which clubs are up near the top and such but I rarely get to hear or see what is going on behind the scenes.

I know Denver didn't have the best run in to the playoffs {concerning win-loss} and didn't start great against LA and aren't really expected to win this series let alone match the likes of Detroit, Miami, San Antonio...etc.

But, none of this means they will roll over and be beat easy.
It is afterall, a game, a sport, and anything can happen and usually does.

We Will See.

OK...you really want to know...

In the rugby league here I have been a huge fan of the Brisbane Broncos since the day I was born...and always was a fan of the Denver Broncos and watched their NFL games whenever I could...Then a couple years ago I started following basketball here {because of certain teams...Brisbane Bullets} and also because when the league season was finished I needed another sport to follow and also play...so since I always supported the Denver NFL side it just sort of went from there.

The same thing happened with Dallas too. Our rugby league side is the Cowboys {who I also support}...Dallas Cowboys...Dallas Mavericks!

I also like Dirk Nowitski and Carmello and was happy when Denver signed Earl Boykins too.

I don't know if you've heard of Brad Newley?...he is going to be big in America very soon.

And also do you remember Darnell Mee?...he played for the Nuggets a few seasons ago. Was he any good over there and did he get much court time?
He's now back playing in our league and was wondering how good he was over there.

i remember Mee (thought he was Asian from the name at first) but wasn't he drafted by a California team? wasn't the Fakers possibly the Clippers? Never saw him play but that was 'round about MJ's baseball sojourn? if the Clippers drafted him back then, his status could be likened to a death row inmate.

He is a guard put can play a bit of everywhere and look comfortable doing so.

I'm not sure about the year...I read in our local paper he is trying out for the next draft...whenever that is? and I'm quite sure he will be available to play in next season's NBA!

I remember reading that if selected the Crocs {his current team} will have another spot on the roster to fill for this season. I also read that if he missed out this year he will have another shot at it because he is still young enough.
Maybe that link is incorrect and should say 2006 not 2007. When is the next draft though?

but why do you think he'll be the big in the NBA?
He came into our competition and just carved teams. All commentators, coaches, inside personal have been saying he is the "next big thing" although I think he has arrived.
He has enough confidence to now chase a draft spot after two years of being a standout player in our competition. The "big word" is he will make it in the NBA and he's been backing that up!

the Suns theory is to outscore every opponent with small attention to defense. its a pretty good regular season approach ...

the Fakers surprise me mightily! i expected Bryant to score 40+ every game and get swept. kudos to the players and i'll never doubt the Zen master again.

I have to say I am very surprised, I did think the Lakers had a chance because the Suns have no size, Marion tends to dissappear in the playoffs and Nash wasn't 100%.

But the way the Lakers are playing really surprised me. Who said that Kobe doesn't pass the ball? he has been like a point guard, passing first, finding his teammates open, he's also been playing pretty good defense.

Odom has been great (except for the free throws) and so has K. Brown, they are moving the ball, everyone is touching it, everyone is defending and scoring.

Maybe they think they are the Pistons

Lakers are playing really well right now. Phoenix needs to find some toughness and some D in a hurry or they'll lose.

the problem is, where?

Marion is just too small to stop Lamar, Tim Thomas is better in offense. Nash might be the best point guard in the NBA but he doesn't play defense.

with Amare and Kurt Thomas out, they don't have much to throw at the Lakers. At least with the old Lakers they could pray Kobe would have an off night, but the whole Lakers team is playing well, not likely to happen.

And it's real difficult to win at the Stapples center if the Lakers are playing with confidence. I think the series is over.

Phoenix is a soft soft team. They knew coming into this season that they needed to get tougher and they knew STAT would be gone for most if not the entire season. That run and gun crap doesn't work in the playoffs and they are getting exposed right now.

Miami??? i know the league wants higher scoring games. i know the officiating favors perimeter players. i know, i know, i know ... but its pretty ridiculous whats happening to interior power players. the league tried to redress Shaq's dominance and the cure is worst than the illness. i'm a marginal Riley fan but i've gottah wonder why he didn't see this coming.

I wouldn't put it on Nash, he slipped in the first ball and Parker was very alert.

Got caught in the second ball and tried to defend it.

The real mess was made by the rest of the team. It was obvious that Walton would win the jump with 5 more inches, the problem is that they left Kobe alone, Kobe is the best finisher in the NBA but the Suns didn't defend him.

Nash said there wasn't a foul, that he slipped, and he wasn't playing nice because he said that Diaw called a timeoff that wasn't given. He said there could have been some contact but it was a tough call.

The thing remains, this is the playoffs, you know you won't get all the calls, specially on the road, but most important, you can't, and I repeat, you can't leave Kobe Bryant alone, not with the game on the line, you know he will make it 9 times out of 10 (and these are Steve Kerr's comments, not mine but I totally agree).

Bottom line is, if the Suns want to move from a regular season scoring machine to a championship contender, they need to learn to deal with players like Bryant in the final seconds.

Of course, if Amare weren't injured the history would be very different, but they have to play with what they have.

to be honest, I haven't seen that much of the Mavs, so I don't really know the team very well.

If the regular season is any indication, the Mavs, along with the Spurs and the Pistons are ovewhelming favourites for the title.

I know they have Nowitzki, Howard and Terry are playing very well, they have depth and a great coach, they have the assets to do it but the big question is if they can toughen it up when it matters. If they have to play the Spurs or the Pistons (or even the Lakers) in a hard fought series, they have collapsed before but then Avery Johnson wasn't the coach. They did a remarkable job sweeping the Grizzlies but they haven't really been tested, we know the Grizzlies have never won a playoff game, so I am not surprised, the real stuff begins in the next round.

I do think they have a good chance if they can keep this level.

the Mavs are real contenders. the biggest question i have about 'em is whether they'll revert to their no defense playing ways when the pressure is on ... Avery went public with his concerns about their defensive consistency a couple times this season.

other than that its really just a question if they're good enough to beat the past two NBA champions. they're probably better offensively than the Pistons and Spurs. SA and Detroit are great defensive teams though and you've heard the cliche' ...

Bulls
But still a great series, Baby Bulls are close to being all grown up! :yeah:

Suns :bounce:
Win game 7 too.
What a weird world we're living in if Tim Thomas is a playoff hero...:rolls:
He was the deciding factor in Game 1 of the series and now again he forces OT.

Unlucky for the Bulls! 2 of their Big Players are English which is quite cool for Europeon Basketball!

Isn't that how he plays all the time?

up to game 4, the Lakers were playing game team basketball, in a big part because Kobe was sharing the ball, but also Lamar and K. Brown were playing great, dominating the paint and Walton wasn't playing bad either.

But in game 5, all but Lamar dissappeared, Brown got in foul trouble and wasn't a factor.

In game 6, they started well, but Lamar was trapped by the Suns double team and couldn't get out of it, he still had a good game but it wasn't enough, they needed Kwane Brown, Walton and Parker to deliver and they didn't. Brown was good a the beginning but then again was in foul trouble and was a non-factor. Walton and Parker were just terrible.

So Kobe needed to take over, he was the only one that could score at the end and only because of that they kept it close.

If Brown, Walton and Parker remember how to play, and Odom learns to deal with the double team, they might have a chance without Kobe scoring like crazy, otherwise, he is their only chance.

Now predictions for the semis:

Detroit vs Cleveland

Sorry Lebron but the Pistons will just wear you down, and the rest can't pick it for you.

I think the Pistons will sweep this one.

Miami vs New Jersey
again, Shaq and Wade, if Shaq plays like he did in game 6 against the Bulls and Wade steps it up as I expect him to do, this could be another sweep.

But I'll give the nets one game, Heat in five.

San Antonio vs Dallas

tough one, the Spurs are the Spurs but Tim Duncan is injured and the Mavs are playing great, specially Nowitzki.

Dallas in 6.

Phonix vs La Clippers

The Clippers have done a lot more they could have even dreamed off before the season started.

But Phoenix is fired up at the moment, it's not only Nash and Marion, Raja Bell, Barbosa, Diaw and Tim Thomas are playing great, and Kurt Thomas can be back, that's too much for the Clippers to deal with.

Phoenix in 5.

Agreed. The commentators seemed to think he might be sick or injured..but I think he just said screw it and didn't try.

What was it? 3 shots taken in the second half I think?

That seemed very fishy to me. I think he felt like he was in a lose lose situation. If he scores he selfish, but if he passes he selfish. If KB8 didn't have a history of trying to prove a point I wouldn't feel this way. He did only take 3 shots in the second half.

He was pulling that shit in the regular season the last year that Phil and Shaq were there. If the papers said he was being selfish he'd "tank" and not shoot so the team would lose...

to prove a point

He's a shitty teammate, even when he's "the man" and everyone is deferring to him.

Detroit is just Merking cleveland right now I expect this to continue for the rest of this series.

that wasn't a game, it was a masscre.

It was clear that Detroit is 10 times better in every single aspect.

Cleveland has Lebron, Ilgauskas and Hugues, Detroit has the whole team, they just killed them today, I think it'll be a sweep.
