So far Serbia is doing really well in the Fed Cup group! :D On Monday, the team scored a 2-1 win over Slovenija, Ana and Danica won a very close match in doubles 6-4 5-7 8-6, Ana beat Masa Zec Peskiric but Ana Timotic lost to Polona Rebersak in straight sets, which was a match she should have won really . I guess maybe she was tired from her tourney last week.

Today SCG won 3-0 over South Africa. Ana T was rested/dropped for singles, but played dubs with Danica, which they won in straight sets :) (Danica seems to be a good doubles player although I never heard mention of it before  ) Anyway, it also seemed to be a good idea to play Danica in singles, cos she won her match 6-0 6-2 and Ana won 6-0 6-1.

So, the main test is gonna come tomorrow when we play against Denmark, who also won both their matches, 3-0 and 2-0 (they didn't play the doubles against Slovenija today). Serbia need to win to go through and there's no match line-up so far (I dunno if Jecmenica said who's gonna play...)

So let's all cross our fingers for them tomorrow, so far the team seems to be doing pretty good (despite the ridiculous omission of Tea Mircic from the team :()

Ajde!

don't really care about fed cup in general tbh, but ana was obviously a very popular name in serbia in the 1980's.

anyway, good luck to all anas and that 4th girl :p

I am very happy we won all these matchs :yippee: :rocker: :rocker2: :D :aparty: even if the match against Slovenia was closer than expected.Ana Timotic said that she wasn't that tired but that Polona played the match of her life and that's why she won that easily, but imo it's still a :tape: :tape: :o very embarassing loss for Ana but the most important is that Ana I and Ana I/Danica made up for it and that we have very good chances to finish 1st of our group :yippee:
Nevertheless,I agree with you and I think that Tea( and even Zoric) should have played because they are both in a great form unlike Danica and Timotic who were quite disappointing this season.About Danica's skills as a double player,I don't think she is that good. The South African team isn't one of the best of the world and she paired with Ivanovic to beat the Slovenian team.Ivanovic has quite good results in doubles this season and my intuition says she was the leader of the team :p
Good luck to the Serbian team against Danemark tomorrow!! Even if Wozniacki is a great junior player and a future star I still think we should beat them :D Ajdeee!!! :rocker: :rocker2:

:haha: That's sooooooooo true :p and I think it's still very popular :p Serbians lack of imagination as far as names are concerned :p

Yes, and I suffered from it  having the same name as half the population of the country!

SCG have won the group now :yeah: cos Ana T and Ana I both won their singles so they have an unassailable 2-0 lead. So SCG are through to the play-offs :bigclap: and it's a big credit to Ivanovic cos she really led this team and she's still soooo young :worship: .
Ana won pretty easy (6-3 6-0) over Wozniacki, was another tight match for Ana T (2-6 6-4 6-4) which she should've won more easy really. I'm glad you agree with me Danijela that Tea and Natasa should've got some chance to play, cos those girls have had some really good results lately and they both have really good rankings in the Race... I'm also a bit surprised that Jecmenica chose Ana T to play today rather than Danica . I really hope that Tea and maybe Natasa make the team for the play-offs if their resutls are still going the same, cos like you say neither Danica nor Ana have been playing amazing this year.

Indeed huge credits to Ana Ivanovic :worship: She was very solid so far :D :worship: I was also surprised Jecmenica chosed Ana Timotic instead of Danica today,I guess Timotic really wanted to make up for her loss on Tuesday and prove we still can count on her.
I hope that we will face either GBR or Israel this week end because I admit I'm :scared: of Slovakia.I think Ivanovic can beat Daniela Hantuchova but both Husarova and Hantuchova like doubles and Rybarikova was very promising this week :scared: :scared:

I'm with you on that one. Israel could also be tough I guess, cos they have Shahar who was awesome this week and other pretty strong players like Tzipi Oblizer (sp?) and Anna Smashnova. But hopefullt SCG will have Jeca as well as Ana and then they'd be favorites for that tie, and I would guess that one of our lower ranked girls could beat Tzipi or Smashnova if they really hit. GB would be the easiest tie IMO, no disrespect to them, but to look at them they don't have any player inside the top 100 and I figure we'd probably win in dubs and Ana's matches, so if they lost the others it wouldn't matter so much. Slovakia could be really really tough, cos Rybarikova seems to be soooo good and that doubles team is pretty hard to beat--you can almost say they have two dubs specialists, plus Hantuchova who can play really well if she hits.

But it's already this weekend! I didn't realise!

Ana Timotic beat Anna Smashnova, Smashnova retired...

Isreal Beat Serbia..

Serbia & Montenegro lost an agonisingly close Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Europe/Africa Zone Group I play-off against Israel. Ana and her team-mates went down 2-1 after three incredibly dramatic rubbers.

Serbian No.2 Ana Timotic faced Anna Smashnova the first singles rubber and was 6-4, 5-4 behind when, amazingly, the Israeli was forced to retire through injury.

Ana could have sealed victory for Serbia but Israeli No.1 Shahar Peer, who has been in top form this week, triumphed 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 in the second rubber.

The tie therefore came down to the doubles rubber, in which Ana and Danica Krstajic faced Peer and Tina Obziler. Israel won the opening set 6-1 but Serbia hit back to take the second 6-4.

Just as Serbia & Montenegro’s opening doubles rubber in the competition went deep into the deciding set, so they toiled here. Serbia served for the match, but Israel eventually clinched the third set 10-8 to seal overall victory.

The result means that Serbia & Montenegro must remain in Europe/Africa Zone Group I of the Fed Cup by BNP Paribas for another year.
