My cousin has this problem nobody knows how to solve it. She thinks that many people around her(except relatives) are making fun of her thinking that she is a whore. She says that somebody is spreading bad info about her. Thats why people laugh at her and make fun of her. She tried to change location many times but same experience. Her parents took her to doctor but he couldn't pinpoint the type and treat her. By the way, she never accepts that its a psycological problem and says that those things are really happening which are not. Any advice??

paranoia perhaps? don't take my word for it, i ain't a psychiatrist :)
mebbe should seek proper psychiatric help if it affects her life since she constantly moves to avoid these people..

She seems to be sexually repressed is my opinion. Thinks people believe she is a whore? What is her background? Religion etc....I'm guessing Catholic...age etc?:wavey:

I know people like this. They always think that people are talking about them behind their back. I'm no expert, but I just think it is a case of paranoia. I don't know how you can get rid of it, other than to accept who you are and not worry about what other people think.

Tell her to be herself.

saniafan is Indian, so I'm assuming her cousin is the same. She could be Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist  Are you saying that catholics the only one who are sexually repressed?

I know nothing about Hinduism or the like factions...so I'll shudup now ;) Any chick that thinks they are a whore has been told by someone they are (grrrr at depravity of the female sexuality). Kinda makes sense now I guess...perhaps that could have been added to the post if they "truely" wanted help ;)

She's a paranoid schizophrenic. Put her on a thorazine drip and call me in the morning. ;)

she may not be a paranoid schizophrenic because she doesn't imagine anything. She just connects the real happening things to her in a wrong way, I mean to say if a group is talking and lauging in real she thinks they are talking about her. may be its a delusion!!!
By the way, she is hindu but I do'nt think it has anything to do with religion????
MY question is, if she doesn't accept that its a psycological problem, then will going to doctors help??? because she has been to one and he couldnt find anything wrong with her becasue she told him she is not having any psco problems!!!

Its quite possible for her to be imaging these people laughing at her. I'm pretty sure in terms of schizophrenia you can be think you are hearing voices or such like without them really existing. The illusions don't have to be seeing things. She could have a social anxiety or some such thing.

Like they say, crazy people don't know that they're crazy...

Seriosuly though, it sounds like she has paranoid personality disorder. It's not very treatable (according to my abnormal psychology book I have left around from college days, only 11% of psychologist who treat this type of disorder think that people with it can be helped long term. ) Thearapy usually consists of trying ot change the person'a beliefs that everyone is evil and out to get them

Is it possible that she's really a slut/whore and these people who are making fun of her are real?

Doesnīt really seem to have a lot of selfesteem...I donīt know it sounds like a real huge problem and I think that doctor she visited should have transfered her to a specialist. Thereīs gotta be a solution to all this. I mean we are all in no position to judge about your cousinīs disorder, however trying to convince her going to an experienced doctor/therapist might be an important first step.

Yes.

She needs a psychiatrist because she has persecutory delusions from what you describe.

Denying that it's a problem may simply represent a lack of insight.

the first step to recovery is acceptance.. once she's able to accept that there is a "problem" then they'll be a solution

Can you get her on Dr. Phil? He should be able to get to the bottom of it. And he doesn't make anyone feel bad about themselves.
