Yeah ok, the name of the thread sucks so I'm happy to change it if someone has any suggestions...
Anyway, it is sooo dead around here with Ana not playing so I thougt considering I am still reletively new here and know like none of you (except for a couple) that we can use Ana's little break as a time to get to know each other a bit, even if it just by name, although you probably do all know each other by now! If u don't like the idea than just let the thread die and I'll get the point! :p
So to kick things off, I'm Katie from Australia, and I'm 17! :wavey:

Well, official site is much better than mine, it has everything now. I felt my website was needed before when the official one wasn't that great. Right now forum is completely DEAD and I feel that the people don't need that site anymore. Writing news section or adding photos takes time and when I see no feedback in forum I feel that my work is going nowhere. OK, I am overreacting :o .

Does anyone else think we should get a cool name for this forum other than Ana Ivanovic? Out if all my faves whose forum I go to, this is the only one that's not up with the personalised name...
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Out the front of Rod Laver Arena this year... There was a group of Serb fans that followed Ana around from Hopman Cup to Sydney and then to Melbourne and I think that's them!

You and who else?
They were pretty fired up there, you had to calm them down.

Ok there is like 3 other people there who like Ana fans, maybe! :p

Really??? First time i hear this. Some proof that this is true?
Looks more like excuse making from you.
Well that is the general feeling I get from this quote:

"No I don't like to be compared to her. We have one thing the same and that's playing tennis. I think we're are pretty different in everything else. I'm happy to be myself, I want to be different." - Ana Ivanovic on whether she enjoys comparisons to Maria Sharapova

^^^ That's from the Australian tennis magazine November issue

DAVAJ MKirilenko

I don't think that it means that she doesn't like Maria. Ana is just Ana. She doesn't want to compared with Maria or anybody else!

Mr.Kardashian
Dec 4th, 2006, 09:25 AM
hi everyone... ive been a fan of ana's since last years hopman cup in perth... we cant really judge based on that quote whether she hates maria or not... and hate is a strong word im sure she doesnt hate any of the players she simply doesnt like being compared with others which is fair enough and im sure most players would feel the same... and if she does dislike maria... why does it matter? but i dont think we can judge based on that quote only...

~lollipop_girl~
Dec 4th, 2006, 11:32 AM
I hope you are not serious on this one. Girl wanting to be recognised as
individual and from that you read that she does not like Pova. We are
stretching now a little?;) Every player has similar quote, must be all of them
dont like Pova? Except Pova has same quote refering to Kournikova, she must
hate Anna then.
Very true, none of them like her
Let me have my gossip people :sobbing: I like reading too much into things, I am female after all! ;)

What would u think if a player said something similar to that quote, then the reporter says "Don't worry we hate her too" & the player laughs and says "Thank you"? Would u think they don't like Masha then?

Actually beside historical issues (well, actually both countries have a lot of them, but Serbia has more recent ones and certainly more traumatic) there's not too much of a difference between us. Ok, most of Poles are catholics (actually stats say over 95% are, but to say 95% of Poles goes to church every Sunday doesn't really square with the facts :tape:  ) and most Serbians are orthodox I believe, but that's about it as far as the cultural issues are concerned. One word. STEREOTYPES.

It's sad that people keep thinking that all gay people behave just like this 1% of 'gay society' (speaking in general) and feel the need to show the whole world that they are gay by organising some silly parades for instance (I'm not talking about some actions that try to put people into perspective some of our rights... actually not our, general human rights to live as we want). EXCLUSIVE: Catching Up with Ana Ivanovic

The 2006 tennis season was a year to remember for 19-year old Ana Ivanovic. Only three years after making her Sony Ericsson WTA Tour debut in Luxembourg, she captured the singles title at the Rogers Cup in Montreal, Canada - one of the biggest tournaments on the circuit apart from the four Grand Slams and season-ending Championships. Her victory was even more sweet as her opponent across the net was none other than fifteen-time Grand Slam champion Martina Hingis.

Her title at the Rogers Cup vaulted her into first place on the US Open Series rankings and Ana became the third woman, after Grand Slam champions Lindsay Davenport and Kim Clijsters to win the highly coveted US Open Series - and double her earnings at the US Open.

Now with 2006 behind her, Ana is already hard at work in Australia preparing for her 2007 debut at the Mondial Australian Women’s Hardcourts in Gold Coast. On the Baseline recently caught up with her via email to find out how she is spending her off-season and her goals for the new year.

Ana, you just completed your most successful season on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour by playing a packed schedule of nineteen tournaments. I know that you are enjoying a much-needed vacation, but what kinds of things are you doing in the off-season to prepare for 2007?
“Vacation wasn’t very long! I have been working hard on conditioning, especially strengthening upper body. My fitness trainer Scott is great, he thinks of many different activities so that training is fun. We have only been working together for five months but already we have done some kickboxing and now here in Sydney we have started snorkelling and will do some surfing too. On the court we are working on some small technical improvements.”
Tendonitis caused you to miss some of the fall tournaments a few months back, so how is your shoulder feeling heading into next year?
“It is feeling good. I had a good recovery and was able to play well in Linz, which was the first tournament since injury. I wasn’t able to hit kick serves or serve at 100 per cent intensity, but I will be able to do that in Australia because I am fully healthy.”

The Sony Ericsson WTA Tour introduced on-court coaching in 2006 and is planning on expanding the tournaments that use this feature in 2007. Did you try it at all and what are your thoughts about this possibly becoming a permanent fixture on the tour?
“I did not try it. Actually they first had it in Montreal and I won the title without using it. I do not like on-court coaching. Me and my coach David feel quite strongly about this. Our training is designed for me to be independent on the court and I like that tennis is individual game. I also think that the communication between player and coach should be private. So I do not want it to become permanent.”

You have said that your victory over Martina Hingis at the Rogers Cup in August was your most memorable experience so far in your career. What was it like to defeat such a legendary champion in a Tier I final?
“It was unbelievable. I was so happy with how I played. It’s tough to explain how happy I felt. The satisfaction was really overwhelming. I did exactly what I planned to do and that felt so good.”

What kinds of goals have you set for your season in 2007?
“I always prefer to concentrate on improving instead of thinking about numbers. I believe that if I improve some areas of my game the results and rankings will come automatically. But of course it’s impossible not to think a little bit about the definite goals. My first goal is to reach the top 10 as soon as possible. I also have the goal to qualify for the Sony Ericsson Championships.”

Thank you Ana and we wish you the best in 2007!

i don't care much about animals and i dislike all "animal rights" groups i can think of, so penguins can keep on oppressing whoever they want as long as it's not humans :p

i don't think i'm obsessed with being pc. tenis srbija is homophobic and i simply said that. he may not be the worst of homophobes, but he still is one. i can tolerate that, but that doesn't mean i won't say it. and yeah, we are probably not used to the same things as you. i mean, you also kinda-sorta defended pashanski on the other thread, which i would never do after comments he made.

I found this nice interview on: http://www.onthebaseline.com/2006/12/20/catching-up-with-ana-ivanovic/

Like 99.9% of guys who are straight say that :p
And that chick has nothing on Ana ;)

@TenisSrbija: I understand what you are saying with they "why do they have to scream to the world that they are gay?" but my question is, does that mean if you saw a gay couple walking down the street holding hands with each other, you would find that completely disgusting and have a huge problem with it? Also does your opinion of lesbians match the opinion u have gay guys?
BTW, I'm certainly not attacking u, as I said before I am straight (shut up Juha:ras: ) but this is the sort of discussion that really interests me & I do class myself as a minority group activist who isn't very active :p so I would love to hear more of your opinion...

Finally, originally the of homophobe was someone who actually had a fear of gays, the tended to express this via violence and hate towards them, but the actual definition was that they were truly scared to be near a gay person coz 1) they thought they would turn gay themselves & 2) were scared that the gay person would try to rape them... Its now become commercialised in the sense that its been overused and simply means hate for gays...
Why I just said all that I have no idea, but like i said, this is my kind of discussion :D

You (str8) guys don't know how it feels and it's not possible to explain. You won't get what kind of pain it is, when you can not show your emotion to the person you love/like. Of course there's no problem when a guy hugs or kisses a girl on the street or in the park, even 2 girls is no big deal. But if there are 2 guys it's not that easy. Actually I have never seen guys holding their hands or kissing on the street and no wonder... they would have big troubles soon. All what's left for us in public places are words... and we have to watch out again to prevent some inappropriate person from hearing them. I remember like now, when I took a hand of my 1st bf in the park on the bench. I was so scared that someone might watch us and we will soon end on a wheelchair... ok, I might exaggerate a bit but I still can feel how my heart was in my throat when I did it. And it was like for 10 seconds... that's the only time when I 'show' in public I was gay. Just imagine TS how it feels, before you make further comments. Thanks.

for your information, some definitions of homophobia:
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/homophobia

notably the following:
prejudice against (fear or dislike of) homosexual people and homosexuality

you openly admit you find homosexuals disgusting which means you are homophobic

i would agree that you have the right to be a homophobe, but i don't see why are you denying it? you don't need to physically attack people in order to be a bigot, finding them disgusting already makes you one.

it doesn't matter, though. i don't expect you will understand anyway.

We all know what your stance on the matter is.
But it's a denial of human rights to gays, the freedom of choice and other freedoms as well, in any modern country, this should be seen as a crime.
And even if there are laws against it, they are hardly legitimate.

Yes very true... Speaking generally & from experience, men seem to accept lesbians more then gay guys coz they get turned on by that, and a lot of women get turned on by gay men and thus are accepting of that & not lesbians coz they don't see how you could be attracted to another girl & not fit the "model" of what a woman should be like, same goes for the men...

Be gay, be lesbian, be straight, I don't give a fuck :)Kate, already corrected me. No need to call me with names though :D

A guy in my class at school was like that. Spent the majority of his time around girls and could easily approach them. I’m thinking he was gay. It’s so frustrating though because I’m so shy around attractive girls and never know what to say while there’s the gay guy talking away to all the girls. :o

We have the same problem in school
But I'm not shy around attractive girls :p :D

Yes there is need... Cause you wanna sooooo much to tell everyone that you are gay, and that I'm homophobe, that you are not even reading what I write... Now that's sick...appart for being gay!

And I've told already a million times....Live and let other's live! Stop bodering me to say "Oh gay is super!!! Wupididuuuuuu...I love you allllll!!!!", or "I'm a homophobe...:bounce: Yes, I'am..." - cause it's not gonna happen ;)

But if they came out as being gay, what would it be like in Serbia, the reaction I mean?

Again, relax man. We wont solve any world problems on WTAW
that's true, of course, but i am not really trying to solve problems here. i actually plan not to post about politics at all in 2007. but even then i will react to stuff like this :p

Yes, you are:p
Who is more PC on WTAW than you?
i am political, not politically correct  i am somewhat politically active even in real life, i suppose i can't quit even when i'm online :tape: i should probably pick a better board for that.

But i admit your option is better than common "gastarbajters".
i don't consider myself that  but i suppose i know what you mean :p

I kinda-sorta knew nothing smart cant come from his mouth even before those
comments. Just added few facts to show that there is no any kind of pattern
to his behaviour. Defense?
You fight for rights of any imaginable group but overlooking
major one- intellectually challenged. They too have some rights, to be dumb
atleast.
Im actually more tolerant than you, i can look at things even from idiots
perspective (pun intended).
i suppose the problem is that you can be dumb without being hateful :p i suppose that's where political correctness is useful. bigots should be forced to be ashamed of themselves, not gays, blacks or muslims.

dunno, i am not used to hearing such stuff being said in such a nonchalant way.

So how are all the Ana fans today?

In Ana's latest diary entry...

Right now me and my Mum are addicted to the television show 24. It's unbelievable entertainment. We can easily watch five episodes non-stop! My coach David gave me the DVDs but at first I only had the third series. I watched that first, then I watched the first two. I am now watching the fourth series, it's great.

Well how about that! She happens to like my favourite show! PS. read the comments. ;) :p

Are you serious? It's the best show in the history of television. :worship:

One of the most innovative, thrilling and acclaimed drama series on television, 24, created by Joel Surnow and Robert Cochran, will retain its unique and pioneering format in the sixth season. Each episode will cover one hour of real time, and the season’s entire story will take place in one day. Once again, viewers will be able to follow several key characters through a day that none of them will ever forget.

I can't believe she has fallen into the trap of 24... She had good taste with Friends but not 24  :p

And I agree with her about the weather... Grrr this sucks, it doesn't feel like Christmas at all :sobbing: I'm not use to it raining and being kinda cold like this close to Chrissy! :fiery:
