I'd be very happy if Pitu broke into the Top 50.
Svetlana Kusnetsova will definitely rise.
Daniela Hantunchova is already a surprise..

Hantuchova isn't a suprise ........ she's got it all

Kuznetsova will break top 100
there are quite a few others who will do good

but .....
Next yr look for Roberta Vinci to make her mark in singles.

since nobody seems to believe in Anna making a comeback in Top-10, I think she'll be a surprise to many "experts" in 2002 coming back up from No.70 +/-

Since Serena has been out of the limelight for a long time, I say Serena will give every one a surprise and come in on a HOT streak!

I'm going to go out on a limb and say Alex Stevenson. I'm thinking she'll be top 20 this time next year.

well with Anke going....

maybe Anca Barna or Bianka Lamade could do have a good consistent year, and edge up the rankings maybe 20 or so places - if not more.

In 2002.... I wouldn't be surprised if these happens while some people might do....

In top 5 : Martina will get back top spot!
Jen most likely out of top 5 (maybe #6~7)

In top 10 : Anna & Mary will be back in top 10!

In top 20 : Anastasia will break into the top 20!
Alex wil get there (if she stays healthy)

In top 50 : Angie will get a spot (if she plays enough)

Go,...girls!!

++++++++++
From what I've seen the match between Angie Vs Su-wei,...Angie is definitely top 20 material with good all-court game & angle shot,...Su-wei? well,.....she is consistent&persistent baseliner,...but she needs more power to be successful on tour,... Hope she can make it.

GREAT NAMES PEOPLE!!!!!

i like seeing svetlana k on so many lists. will she be playing wta/more itf next year or will she stick with the juniors? and also, is her game going to be compatible with wta? some very very top juniors never quite make top 50. but still shes awesome, i lvoe her. theres a svetlana look alike in my class and i have pictures if you want to see!!

kaia kanepi should be on more lists, shes a future top tenner almost 100% certain

elena bovina, i really think shell be playing consistently better over time.

and yes, jana nejedly. rededicated herself to her tennis this year after a broadcaster was bashing her for being a bit out of ship and basically washed up. after, she qualied for hte us open and then had a very great run and has been doing pretty good in challengers since. yay jana! i think 2 or 3 years is her long term goal of really improving to a new level, shes peaked at 64 and is about 85 at th emoment

I think Babsi Schett will be back in the top 10, at least top 15.

I really hope that Patty Schnyder will be back under the top 20 - she's got the game!

I like the chance of Patty Schydner, she is such a unique player and her playing style is very different from the rest, this will add a lot of variety into the game, I would also like to see the return of Anna Kournikova, Alexandra Stevenson and Miranja Lucic, the latter most definitely coz she has so much prospect when she arrive in 1997 where she almost upset Jana Novotna in US Open, I watch that, and she is so much better back then. Also I watch the 1999 Wimbledon where she beat Monica, she is so good then as well, only if she can be consistent....

some players I think can make good strides towards top 100:

*Lenka Dlhopolcova
Still an eligible junior, she has a promising game. Had a nice US Open, qualifying for the maindraw, and putting up a good fight against Venus. I think the experience from this year will pay off next year when she can play a few more events.

*Roberta Vinci
She had some injuries early on when she came on tour, but she's healthy right now, and I expect her to rise if she can maintain that. She's getting great experience with such excellent doubles results, and if she can use her natural net game to the nest of her ability then the singles results will show up soon too.

*Tatiana Perebiynis
Last year was one of the top juniors, she didn't play too much this season, but she's a promising player who like the other young girls, will only get better with experience.

*Allison Bradshaw
This year was pretty decent for Allison really, she had a few nice results, and I thought she did pretty well against the top players. Once she works a bit more on her consistency, and perhaps a bit on fitness, we will see more from Allison. She's a good fighter on court, and she has good game to go along with it.

potential players to move up to top 50:

*Tina Pisnik
She's yet to have a real huge breathrough yet, mainly because of inconsistent results. She's got a beautiful game, great technique, and I am hoping that 2002 will be the year she can start stringing together the results she's capable of. She's shown flashes of it the past 2 seasons, hopefully she can move up to the next level.

*Eleni Daniilidou
Another player with a great game. She's finally healthy after so many injuries at the start of her career, and I think can bring her ranking up plenty more soon. This year was a great year to get a feel for the tour.

*Maja Matevzic
Very unique game, and I love it. She's an intelligent player, she mixes up her shots well, and her game is definetly the type that can throw a player off if she's playing well. I think if she can incorporate a little bit more power so that she has more of a weapon she can mix in with all those slices, she'll be in great shape to move forward.

*Marissa Irvin
Pretty big game, I think she seems to be getting used to tour play a little bit more. 2 seasons ago she gave Davenport a great match at the Australian Open, and I think she showed there what talent she has. Now that she's had some more experience, if she can become a bit more consistent, she can rise up the rankings further aswell.

and a few other notables (though not really surprises):

Hantuchova should continue to rise up (already around #40, and with her game I think anything less than top 25 would be a disappointment).

Chanda Rubin should also climb her way back up into the top 20 if she can stay healthy. She has had some great wins this fall, and I think she will carry through into next year with some steady results.

Daja Bedanova, also one who needs to stay away from injuries, could crack the top 20 aswell. She's a smart player with a steady game. If she can work a bit more on power she will be in good shape to keep pushing the bigger names.

The surprise for 2002 will be Alexandra Stevenson who is starting to pick her ranking up again...#75 and I suspect she will be in the top thiry by spring and challenging for the top 10 by this time next year...why?

Alexandra has too much of the spotlight on her and can only solidify it all by being in the top of the rankings....she is about to make a couple of upsets in 2002....I also expect her to win her first title too..which one?...a tier I or II event and it will signal her arrival on the tour
I expect to see more of Chanda Rubin who will be making it back up the rankings to the top 12 spots...she will have a rivalry with one of the top players in the top 10.
The other player to watch out for is ...this is easy...Venus Williams....The year will be hers and there won't be any one sharing credit with her like this year........

Monica will be in the top 5 again and possibly at number 2 and above.....

2002 will be a good year....also keep an eye on Sandrine and Amelie and Aranxa.....those are the dark horses for 2002.

I'm really hoping and expecting to hear and see more form Marie -Ga´ane Mikaelian!! She really impressed me in Zurich.

The Casanova sister will for sure climb up in the ranking as well.

And I wouldn't bee suprised if we finally would hear more from Romina Orpandi.

Last but not least I'm also crossing the fingers that Patty will finally find back her confidence and her old consistency!!

Goooo girls and make some really big surprises!!
