A kinder draw for Alona this time, she plays Morita in the first round of Cincinnati. Marion would await in the next round. Good luck, you'll probably need it.

Alona lost to Lisicki 6-3 6-3 in the first round of the US Open. :awww: At least now she has virtually no points to defend for several months including next year so won't fall much further behind. She can get back to the top 100 sooner or later with her form improving gradually.

Sasja
Aug 30th, 2011, 07:55 PM
Yeah, not a whole lot of points to defend. This was not a good draw for Alona against an in form player

She just needs a little bit more time. Hopefully she will have some good results in Asia & Europe indoor season :)

After weeks of really tough first round opponents, Alona got an easier one in Beijing against Arvidsson.
She still lost though, 2-6 7-5 5-7. :sobbing: A very depressing comeback, I hope she can make some adjustments ready for 2012.

I've just seen that Alona is out of the top 200 this week in the rankings. :help:

Alona really should play some ITF to find her form!

It looks like she's been forced to as she's in a challenger in France this week. I don't know if she's used up all her special rankings yet or not? At least a chance to get winning again. :sobbing:

Edit: They've posted her first round result, she won! She beat Camerin 7-6(3) 6-2. :hearts:

Tough match, but glad she was able to pull through and nice scoreline in the 3rd!
She needs to win a few matches in a row. Get some rhythm and confidence again.

Good luck against Akgul :cheer:

Safe to say Alona's entire year was horrible. She needs a lot of confidence back and win some ITFs along the way.

Sasja
Oct 17th, 2011, 05:13 PM
:sobbing:

Bojana has been struggeling a bit as well, so I was hoping it could at least be a bit closer.
And this is not good for her confidence either
A few ITF's might be good. Trying to get a few wins and end the year on a positive note.

Foals.
Oct 17th, 2011, 06:16 PM
Awful, awful scoreline considering Bojana's poor form, but I doubt she had any real belief after losing the first set.

One small positive (:sobbing:) is that no more points will be coming off for several months so she can only gain now to improve her ranking... at whatever level of ITF needed.

Can you guys fathom what's going on with her? :awww: I find it rather worrying. First, when she got back in May, she was looking so sick and skinny. I immediately noticed it I remember, but people told me I was worrying too much and she'd be gaining weight back being back playing, but to me she still does not look very healthy.
Plus, there are those very bad losses. Every time I saw her play, I didn't really recognize her. Her shots have always been based on quite an excellent pace, and I thought that nevermind her weight loss, she wouldn't lose this anyway. But I really hardly recognize the Alona that I used to watch before. She looked quite sinister this year actually. I'm sad.
Have a nice offseason, Alona! :awww:

Found this on wtatour.ru http://prosport.tsn.ua/sport/olena-bondarenko-pokazala-svoye-simeyne-gnizdechko.html :oh:

A video in which she shows her room. Says she likes to sleep a lot, and needs a good pillow. Was advised to paint her bedroom walls in grey but went for pink cause it's funnier. Buys her pyjamas in children stores, and likes Hello Kitty a lot. Has a little dog, Amy, which she takes everywhere because she can't go without her. Doesn't like to have breakfast in bed cause it's uncomfortable, and doesn't drink coffee. Basically. :oh:

It's a shame Alona never techinally has been able to "defend" her title in Hobart from 2010. I guess her options are more limited with her ranking as to what she can play at the moment, would be good to know if she's playing some challengers though.

Thanks for this, an explanation at last! :) That's really disappointing for her to be out with another operation, I hope it heals up properly. Though it's great to hear she's enthusiastic about playing again, I have to say I had contemplated whether she'd take an early retirement with a lack of motivation. Hopefully this time she'll come back healthy and happy.

I dunno what the issue is, if she's still struggling physically or if the motivation is gone. In some interviews in last year's off-season she said she wasn't intending to retire at all, and couldn't wait to be back on the court. But still, this was a year ago, and since then, no Alona. :( :tears:

A recent interview with Katya here (http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=ru&tl=en&js=n&prev=_t&hl=fr&ie=UTF-8&eotf=1&u=http%3A%2F%2Fsport.segodnya.ua%2Ftennis%2FKatya-Bondarenko-YA-na-shestom-mesyace-beremennosti.html&act=url).

She's 6 months pregnant, when she played USO last year, she actually was pregnant without knowing.

As for Alona, the last question in the interview is about her, and the answer is quite puzzling. Dunno if the wonky translation partly accounts for it. "Feels good" - which is positive, "while not thinking about tennis" - dunno what to think about this. :( Well, at least she feels good and looks healthy.

The average wage per year for the vast majority of Ukraine is less than $6000 (AUD) and she has earned $2,942,247.57 (AUD) based on current exchange rate :D That's not including sponsorship and future income :) I think she's pretty well set, unfortunately  :) :(

From July, 25:

http://www.alona-bondarenko.com/index.php?area=1&p=news&newsid=1057

"А вот у Алены – другие хлопоты. Еще осенью 2011 года она получила травму колена, от которой до сих пор не может отойти. Недавно бывшая 19-я ракетка мира возобновила тренировки под руководством своего тренера и мужа Николая Дячка, но, по словам мамы Натальи Владимировны, все еще испытывает дискомфорт и не может заниматься в полную силу. Тем не менее, Алена попытается вернуться в WTA-тур, а пока вместе с мужем отдыхает в его родной Алуште."

("But Alena - other chores. As early as autumn 2011, she suffered a knee injury, from which still can not move. Recently, a former 19-World No. resumed training under the guidance of his coach and husband Nicholas Dyachka, but according to my mother Natalia, is still experiencing discomfort and may not engage in full force. However, Alan tries to return to the WTA-Tour, and now with her husband, resting in his native Alushta.")

Hope. :sobbing:
