Na won three titles for the World Students Game, single, double and mixed double in 2001. Also, she won three titles in the National Game that year, sinlge, double and team, but early next year she retired. :sad: :tape:

By US Open Na got recovered if not fully, but she encountered World no.1, Lindsay, the 1st round.
Na put on a good fight and lost with a close scoreline, 4:6 4:6!! Lindsay my fave player, a respectful person ;)

Na led the last two sets but ended up 6-4 6-7(4) 5-7. Match was suspended several times by rain and lasted 4 hours)

This 1st round exit made her very disappointed! She denied that rain, injury and home crowd could possibly be the reasons for the loss, but expressed her dissatisfaction that she was the only one without a formal coach since comeback to National Team. The coaching was holding her back with everybody following the same training plan which was aimless! (It's true and proved by jie in her interview.) She felt hopeless having no special plan for her since injured (May-Sept)...
Being the 1st one again to defy authority, she certainly received overwhelming pressure from all sidedness...

At 1/4, when leading 5-1 in the 3rd set, Na suddenly squatted down for a cramp in the leg...
No chance to defend her title!! But just three weeks ago in Bali Open, She beat Zi 6-3 6-4...)

Na's nagative comments about coaching caused a great sensation! The head coach kept refuting her openly:
"She's always losing temper and complaining about others after losing matches." "How come her ranking is rising and her level is not improving as she said? It's illogical." "We'll strengthern moral qualities education...." :eek: :mad:
He's a crap, who joined National Team in 2005 like Na. Na's ranking started falling since early May...
On the contrary, in 2004 China Open, Na never complained when she lost to Sveta...

The 2nd half of 2005 is disaster for Na, bcs of such controversies plus missing of a lot of matches due to injuries. Until echoed by Shuai end of the year, CTA felt pressure and changed attitude, started hiring foreign coaches.

For half of 1999, Na was trainning in a US Tennis School with other Chinese players, no photos available now.

Na got 19 ITF singles titles, perhaps the most ITF title owner in singles ever! Also, 16 ITF doubles titles!! :eek: :eek:

A player of this level would have moved to play at higher level in WTA tour instead of wasting talent here.

It's partly because tennis is far from taking a mainstream place in China. Another reason is when she came back after 25 months of absence, she got no ranking and had to play from ITF, even though tennis is attracting more attention and support since Ting/TianTian won an Olympic gold in 2004.

Oct.11,2005, Na/Ting won team match in National Games in Nanjing

Li Na/Li Ting won China's first WTA doubles' title at Tashkent Open in Uzbekistan. With Na's retirement early in 2002, Ting teamed up with TianTian till now. But for those national games, they got to team up again to play for thier province.

Na started to play doulbes with Shuai since China Open Sept 2005. They did not play many matches together...
