I really hope she starts picking up her singles game. She used to do better than Chin-Wei, but has stagnated the last couple of years...

I did not get to see the match :( ESPN did not even broadcast it here in the states. I remember that Chia-jung can crank very fast serves and maybe that's the key to her doubles success? I wonder how fast are her serves compared to Chan's?

Anybody else disappointed that Chia-Jung now seems to be concentrating on doubles? :(

I understand that she's probably making a lot more money playing WTA doubles events, but it's sad to see her waste her singles talent, because I believe she's capable of really improving her singles ranking too...

I think her long-time injury can be one of the factors. That affected her so often.Maybe it's wise of her to focus on doubles, for she really is a Grand Slam Champ material and she hasn't had much progress on her singles ranking throughout these years. But yeah, also for me,I would like to see her doing better and better in singles.

I'm disappointed she's only focusing on doubles at the moment, yes. She has a big serve and a big forehand, and now she should be developing more confidence at the net. TianTian has turned from pure baseliner to approaching the net and winning a lot of points there, she's just inconsistent and a bit of a headless chicken at times :o I'd like to see Chia-Jung come back, but just like Yan Zi, she's following in someone else's footsteps :tears:

She was in the same situation as Tiantian and Zi.They don't have too good a singles performance to go with their great doubles results,so they all had fallen out of 250.However,Zi proves now as long as you keep that faith in youself, you can go back to your top.Hopefully Chia-Jung can follow her footsteps and get back soon to where she was and even better. :D

Zvonareva cruises past Chuang

By Charles Bennett (http://www.charleston.net/staff/charles_bennett/)(Contact (http://www.charleston.net/staff/charles_bennett/contact/))
The Post and Courier
Tuesday, April 15, 2008

Vera Zvonareva wasn't quite sure what to expect from Chia-Jung Chuang, her first-round opponent Monday in the Family Circle Cup, but it didn't take her long to find out.
Ninth-seeded Zvonareva learned on the fly and dispatched Chuang 6-2, 6-2 in a one-hour match on stadium court.
http://media.charleston.net/img/photos/2008/04/14/tennismonday654_t180.jpg (http://www.charleston.net/photos/2008/apr/14/9491/)
Grace Beahm
The Post and Courier Vera Zvonareva volleys with Chia-Jung Chuang during their match on the Stadium Court at the Family Circle Cup.

"I did what I had to do today," said Zvonareva. "I've seen her play doubles, but I had never seen her play singles. It was a bit difficult and I didn't know what to expect (Monday). I had to figure it out on the court. I think I did it pretty well. But I think we'll hear about her more in the future. She's a pretty good player."
The 23-year-old Chuang, a qualifier ranked No. 409 in the world, was playing in her first main draw singles match this year.
She led 2-1 in the first set. Then Zvonareva found her rhythm and settled in and overpowered Chuang with her serve and superior ground strokes.
Both players seemed to have a bit of a problem getting their games revved up on a day of overcast skies and cool temperatures.
"It was a little bit cold today," Zvonareva said. "But I felt pretty good. It was my first match this year on clay, so it's really tough to play really good in a first match on clay."
Zvonareva, the highest seed to play on Monday, advances to meet the winner of today's first-round match between Olga Puchkova and Virginia Ruano Pascual.
Ranked 17th in the world, Zvonareva comes into the tournament after reaching the semifinals at Miami two weeks ago before losing to Jelena Jankovic.
Zvonareva withdrew from last week's tournament at Amelia Island because of a hamstring injury, but said she's in better health this week.
"I've played lots of matches, so I've been a little bit tired," said Zvonareva, who is 22-6 this year in singles. "But I felt pretty good today. I had a few days off after Miami and didn't go to Amelia Island because my hamstring was bothering me, but otherwise I feel pretty good right now."
Overall, she's satisfied to have her tournament off to a good start.
"I think I did pretty good today," she said. "I'm really happy that I got through."

Hope Chia-Jung plays more singles. :)

They won 7-5 6-1 yesterday. Struggled a little bit in the first set, but ran away with the match after that. They will have a tougher test against the Radwanska sisters though. Chia-JUng just lost the mix doubles match to Su-Wei and her partner in a tight 3rd set tie-break. Now concentrate on doubles! Hope she does well here!

IMO she is way to good of a doubles player to be ranked in the 40s as she is now.
she really needs to get a good partner - i feel that the only player of proper calibre of which she is played with this year is Peschke and Hsieh, and neither of those partnerships lasted!! she needs to dump Govortsova and hook up with somebody else, or i feel her results won't get any better.

Saw CJ and Olga in their first round 61 64 loss to Niculescu/Peer.

For the first set and a half, Olga was soooooooooo bad :help:
From what I remember, she did not hit a winner at the net until 61 31 :help: Horrendous serving.

CJ was not much better though :o Mediocre serving, poor groundies, not so great at the net.

CJ hit a couple of GOAT winners when down 1-6, 1-3, 0-40, but other than that, the team was a mess. :bigcry:

in light of CJ's recent win, i decided to go and visit her wikipedia page, and i came across an interesting fact.
in her past 6 finals (which she has won all of, by the way) 5/6 out of six were determined in a 3rd set super-tiebreak, and the score in all of those was 10-7

PVB 09 - CJ/Mirza d. Peschke/Raymond 63 46 10-7
LA 09 - CJ/Yan d. Kirilenko/A-Rad 60 46 10-7
Osaka 09 - CJ/Raymond d. Scheepers/Spears 62 64 (the exception)
ITF Taipei 09 - CJ/Chan d. Basuki/Zalameda 63 36 10-7
Hobart 10 - CJ/Peschke d. Chan/Niculescu 36 63 10-7
Beijing 10 - CJ/Govortsova d. Dulko/Pennetta 76(2) 16 10-7

just an odd coincidence i discovered. clearly her favorite score
