View Full Version : Davenport vs. Hingis.

One of the best rivalries among active players will commence yet again.

As well as Hingis is playing, I beleive Davenport still knows how to beat her. Hingis had better serve well and make sure Lindsay won't pounce on her second like in years past.

Davenport leads Hingis 14-10, their last match Hingis having to retire in Filderstat. Lindsay won their last complete match at the final in Tokyo in three tight sets. Hingis hasn't beaten Lindsay since Sydeny 01'.

Another notable factor in this match is that the last time these two played here, was in 00' when Lindsay won that amazing match in the final.

I'm going with Davenport in three sets.

hey ty ty are you old enough to remeber the first 24 times Lindsay and Martina played you are a great wealth of Lindsay info I couldn't even recall that stuff and I remeber the very 1st time they played each other. French open can't remeber the year Lindsay won 6-2 2-6 6-2 if I'm wrong please feel free to correct me.

Thanks for that now they are going to play each other again I was wondering about the head to head. Who would have thought they would play each other again. Look forward to the next installment hope its a great match and Lindsay wins.

I think it will be difficult for Martina to keep up with Davenport. Davenport was always one of those players that gave Hingis fits.

They are 14-10 i think they both give fits to eachother.
Davenport is a huge favorite to win, but i give Martina an outside chance if the match goes to three sets. It will also depends a lot on how good Martina´s serve comes out for the day.

I dont see this happening, i think Martina will exploit Lindsay´s mobility and will win more than 3 games. I rather have Martina facing Lindsay than Henin, Kim or Amelie, who hit great shots and move really well.

Davenport beat Martina at RG...I wish I could get my hands on that match...how old was Hingis 13, 14? That would be cool to see...I am pretty sure this is going to 3 and if it does I have to favor Martina, though both seemed a little flat today...but I am a big Hingis believer(I love the Davs too :worship: ) so I will obsinately say Martina, 7-5, 6-3,, P

That match is gonna be hot stuff for a 3rd round!
Hingis' comeback makes me think to Clijsters' last year when everyplayer wanted to avoid playing her early in the tournies. Remember Davenport prevented twice Kim to reach the QFs of her first two Grand Slams after her comeback.
Will the story repeat against Hingis???
I believe in coincidence thus i'd bet on Davenport to win this :D

Oh,cause Lindsay doesn't hit great shots. And it definately can happen. If Lindsay is in her best form, there's nothing Hingis can do. Martina has said this before as well. Martina has to return well because she'll be broken plenty of times I'm sure. She also has to hope Lindsay has an off day. She has a great chance, you can never count Martina out,Lindsay probably knows this the most. It should be a good match.

I think that Lindsay is in one of her most fittest forms of her career. I'm sure Martina watched her match against Laura.

If Martina has all her shots, serve, loops, drops, angles and all... she should have a chance. If Lindsay keeps her cool on her serve and could penetrate her grounstrokes through Martina early on, this should be a quick one...

At the end of the day, this should be a great outing for Martina to see what she should do to stay among the best in the world.

I was talking about the combination of great hitting and moving. Lindsay is a great hitter of the ball of the cleaner hitters ever, so soundly so powerful, but what i mean is that Hingis will win more than 3 games i think. Still Lindsay a heavy heavy favorite on this one.

i think lindsay will either win easily or it will be very tough and lindsay or hingis might win in a close third. i mean apart from the first sharapova match(once off) she hasnt beaten any top players, she took kim to 3 sets at the aussie when kim was injured, amelie thrashed her last week the week before maria got revenge by playing her game and also justine beat her so it will either be a surprise enough win for hingis or an easy enough match, but i dont know who i want to win, maria can beat both players but i think i want a maria lindsay match so she can improve that head to head to 5-1 and get revenge and put to bed the double bagel.

Martina's best chance against Lindsay I think will be to take advantage of Lind's serving woes.

It's gonna be hard for Martina to mix things up on these fast courts so she definitely is gonna have to hope for some help from Lindsay.

I bet both are excited to be playing each other again so I'm totally intrgiued by the matchup.

The key of this match is on Lindsay serve, when her serve is on, its hard for martina to do anything.

Martina have to make a good service return if she want to get out from defensive situation, she really need it since lindsay serve is very good.

oh well, i predict lindsay will win in 3 sets

I like Davenport in this match. I know Hingis beat Sharapova a little while ago but Davenport’s a lot more consistent and knows how to handle Hingis (based on their h2h). The remarkable thing about Davenport vs. Hingis is that Davenport is one of the few players that can stay on top of Hingis so much, she has Hingis on the defensive throughout the match, preventing Hingis from implementing her savvy court sense.

Lindsay isn't serving that well so far (around 50% first serve) and she was pushed to 6-4 after being 5-1 up against Granville. Hingis might make it really difficult for her. It's all about the serving. If Lindsay serves well, she will win in straights.

Martina needs to be able to move lindsay and is very capable of doing this with the angles and short balls i think it could go either way it could be a very close match or lindsay will be able to hit through martina and win comfortably. Im going davenport 7-6 6-4

Hingis, maybe even in straight sets.

I think she'll win most of the points where she can get a rally going.

On the other hand, Davenport is a very good returner and will blast away at least some of Hingis' second serves...

I for one think Martina will win.

Just when was the last time Lindsay won a big match? Even in the one's she has, she has struggled quite a bit. My mind tells me, it will be a tough close match, maybe in three sets, but if Martina can show up, like she has against many of the top girls - she will win.

4 years is a long time, maybe Martina has watched Lindsay A lot, and figured out a way of beating her, by observing those who have beaten her. Look at what Myskina has done to Lindsay the last 2 times they've played - str8 sets victories.

If Myskina can, Martina WILL!!!

Martina will win!!!!!!!

I'm sure if those two had a match up, everyone would be like... "ohi yeaha, Ay Nho briana, Lindsaay in 2 str8 secs"

But, Myskina has shown in their last two ways, that she has a found a way to beat Lindsay. Moscow and LA. Both times in straight sets. If Hingis saw those two matches, then i believe she will know what to do against Linsday. Lobs, drop shots, and holding her own against those cannon shots.

Hingis is getting far too little credit. I think she can beat Lindsay. In fact, i think she will!!!

wow, the last SIXTEEN times these two have played, they have both been ranked either 1, 2 or 3 (usually 1 and 2, as a matter of fact). This is the match I've been waiting for; I never thought I'd get to see them play again. It's a shame it's so early on, but I cannot wait for this match. I see 6-3, 6-4 or something to that extent for Davenport. I think she'll have too much power. However, if it's been rainy and if it's really windy, then I can see Hingis pulling off the upset. No one adjusts better to conditions than Hingis, who has a much higher margin for error.

Lol, how embarassing - i have so much work you see haha.

Okay, no no, it doesn't completely blow out my theory. Myskina of 2005 was ... well... sub-par. You can't deny that!

Looking at their 2 meetings in 2004, when myskina was at her best, She used didfferent tricks and ran lindsay rugged. Even if you have a point about Moscow, what about in LA at the championships. Lindsay didn't have weak knees when she beat Serena, and Dementieva 6-0, 6-1. Myskina's tricks work.

I compare hingis and Myskina since they don't rely on power, are quick mover etc etc. Hingis is even a better player than Myskina, so knowing that - i think it works in her advantage even more.

:)

 Sure Myskina beat her in LA...

But that summer, around two months after Nastya won RG, Lindsay whipped her 6-1 6-1 in San Diego, on a court similar to this one, the YEC courts are quite slow...

Go Lindsay! :bounce:

on the backhand side hingis can take the power of lindsay and just redirect the ball in the corner

Absolutelu Myskina beat her at LA 64 76 ;)

At San Diego Myskina was exhausted, she had played a dramatic tie-break against Vera Zvonareva and played more than 2hours

...We're not talkin about that! We're just saying that when Myskina is in good shape she can compete and even beat Lindsay. Considering that Martina and Nastya have almost the same game and that Martina plays very weel these weeks,we conclude by saying that Martina has chance to beat Lindsay,unfortunately.. I hate Martina. GO LINDSAY

There's no way Davenport will win easily. Martina's playstyle reminds me of her 2000 playstyle now, she'll be much tougher than she was earlier in the year. GO Martina!!

Well the point that I was making was that its a bit silly to say that Martina has a chance because of one or two good wins by Myskina, when, in the most part (6-2 ;) ) Lindsay wins the match...

Lindsay will lose in 3 tough sets with a possible 3rd set tb...
then Martina will lose in the semis to Masha like 4-6,2-6;)

They are 14-10 i think they both give fits to eachother.
Davenport is a huge favorite to win, but i give Martina an outside chance if the match goes to three sets. It will also depends a lot on how good Martina´s serve comes out for the day.
Just exactly as i predicted on this thread Martina´s chances of wining on a three setter. An also  to the ones that said Martina would only win 3 games or less

I can't be bothered digging up my post but i remember i said that if Linsday won, it would probably be straight sets, but if Martina won it would be 3 sets ;) But i really did think Linsday would win this one.

I though that Lindsay would win.. but Martina not taking at least 4 games?. Martina is on her way up while Lindsay is been on her way down this year.
:worship: to the ones that trusted on Martina´s chances, seeing the highlights seemed that Martina took advantage of her backhand crosscourt pretty well. :)
