she needs to get a top20seed

Mar 12th, 2006, 08:46 AM
It really does depend on her. If Sam can get her act together outside of Australia, then I wouldn't say it's out of the question. 04 and 05 Wimbledon winners were both outside the top ten (Venus at 10  ). So if Stosur can prove to be an elite player at other tournaments in the next few years, sure it could happen.

i know it's going to happen she is a really good player but she needs a good coach to help her game

I still see her as an improving player, so she has a chance.

Her serve is massive, and she volleys as well as if not better than any serious contender for Wimbledon does at present. But her heavy forehand is neutralised by grass a little, so that's not in her favour.

u r right priceidiot she is a improving player it she can cut now errors she will win matches easily

i'm not a fan of samantha.

I think Stosur's backhand is very underrated. I've seen her really crank a few. It's not really a natural stroke, but still a good weapon.

Stosur will never win wimbledon or any other slam in her entire career. She doesnt have that special quality to make her top 10, I'd even doubt she'd make top 20.

Comparing Venus's wimbledon win as encouragement to Stosur winning wimbledon is slightly off. It's not like Venus had never played at that level before, she'd been there and done it before, this gives her a huge mental edge over players like Stosur.
Plus Venus played at a level (during wimbledon - not disputing shes been crap since)Stosur could never manage.

Stosur's problem is she's too inconsisitent - its highly unlikey she could play 7 matches of the required standard in a row, and she doesnt have the belief - her results away from Australia are shocking due to needing the crowd to make her have belief in herself.

Yeah she's shocking away from Australia...

...yet she's #1 in doubles?

she is fine in doubles around the world which i think give her that extra bit i think she will at lest make the 4th round this year

Sir_Lance
Mar 12th, 2006, 09:10 AM
The reason shes No.1 in doubles is obvious - she can rely on the her partner to boost her morale and give her the belief.

If the rules changed so that a coach would sit with her at the change overs (like in the world team cup) she'd have a chance to go top 20 maybe 10. Still doubt she'd win wimbledon thou.

Have you ever actually seen Samantha play before? If you care to check her profile, she has a few massive scalps and good results against other players (she beat Ivanovic, Dulko etc. took a set off Vaidisova and came within a few points of beating Sharapova).

In my opinion she is just developing slower than her peers and will be a major contendor by the time she hits 24. I'd be willing to bet $100 that Stosur will crack the top 20 at some stage.

i'd probably bet my life coz i think she can do it i think when alicia come's back she will be on a role and i think alicia can win all four grand slams that's why i think samantha should try n win it this year be4 alicia come's back

she will have all of australia behind her

OK, now that's a bit optimistic. If Stosur does win Wimbledon, it won't be this year.

And Alicia will not win 4 slams. She will win 3, but not Roland Garros :p

I doubt it because she doens't seem to have the mentality to focus and win so many points, games, and ultimately matches in a row. She, of course can get mentally stronger but I think that is one of the hardest things to do in tennis so maybe when she's 27. I seriously think she has a much better chance at winning the Australian Open, for obvious reasons, but it will be a few years of hard work and dedication before she can truly compete at that level, for that length of time. I do disagree with some posters who don't believe she could be a top 20 player, yeah it's crowded, but her game is different and I could see her in the top 25 by the end of the year if she stays focused, P

Good post.

I can see Stosur regularly beating players like Golovin, Pennetta and Jankovic. There is no reason in my mind why she won't become a top 20 player one day.

jas_123

i love stosur's game it so different to everyone else that's what i like about it

eck
Mar 12th, 2006, 09:28 AM
Even though it's different, it's kinda predictable now.
Probably every person on tour knows her kick serve is amazing

i dont think emilie is so good i could see stosur beating her

It's Amelie.
And no, I can't see Stosur winning against Amelie.
Stosur can't even get past Dinara Safina....
And Amelie did beat Stosur...
Twice. Convincingly.

I'm sorry, but, come on...It's not gonna happen! I can easily see her winning doubles this year at Wimbledon, or any year, but in singles...just no...Gonna have to throw you a big fat nooo. :p

Mar 12th, 2006, 10:34 AM
im a huge supporter of stosur she can win in doubles any grand slam maybe not so much rg but i think if sams to win wimbledon it will be when she is probably 25 she is only about to turn 22 and she has a impressive game but shes gota keep it consitent and i think she just needs that big crowd behind her to get her pumped

im preety sure sams friends that were wearing those pink shirts at the aussy open(smash em sam group) are going to wimbledon this year to support her so this may get sam deep into the tournamnet this year if shes on her game, because that extra support really gets sam pumped up, cause atm i think sams only got her trainer and lisa and sometimes her family going to the tournaments with her.

one day in a few years time i have the confidence she will lift that trophy of a major in singles but i dont think it will be till about 08-09 =)

jas_123
Mar 12th, 2006, 10:41 AM
no! no! no! there is nothing wrong with her now she has the game to do it right now she come within a few points of beat maria one year be4 wimbledon i think it can happen be good if rafter could coach her he made two finals there he know's what's it like i think she can do it right at the moment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

jas_123

sam has beaten players around the top20 this year so far she can win outside australia

one_beat
Mar 13th, 2006, 05:58 AM
I agree with aussy, Sam could win it in a few years if she gets a good coach and gets her act together. I think Sam needs structure and routine though, and she needs to get comfortable playing overseas and whatnot. She just doesn't have that right now.

Brett.
Mar 13th, 2006, 06:03 AM
I chatted to Sammy last week that she believes she might win Wimbledon title! So i certainly agreed with her!

PatrickRyan
Mar 13th, 2006, 06:37 PM
I can't belive were even talking about this, maybe a good quaterfinal run but that's about it, if she ever meets venus davenport serena sharapova hingis mauresmo clistjers she would get her ass handed to her, expecially on grass when you have so many power players like the williams siters, sharapova and davenport. I like stosur but she will never win a grand slam singles ever!
