Just terribly annoying that it has to rain in the desert when a tennis tourny is going on....

I hope it stops soon. Some matches are left hanging and are about to end. Go away, rain! :fiery:

The valley is dry right now, but it probably won't stay that way much longer.

Rain delays are hard to understand for someone who grew up watching football. Unlike tennis balls, footballs are impermeable, so in theory there is no problem in playing under the heaviest of rains. I've seen football matches played under snowstorms, under rain so heavy every single spectator left the stadium, with fog so thick the goalkeeper couldn't see a free kick being taken just outside the penalty area, with the field turned into a morass to an extent that the ball got bogged down whenever it landed on the pitch (the only way to play was to kick the ball as high and as far away as possible).

The match will only be postponed if the rain is so heavy that it washes away the line markings, or these aren't visible for some other reason. The only exception I have ever seen was a Spanish Copa del Rey match in which the field was flooded, the water wouldn't drain away and so the ball floated like a rubber duck in most of the pitch, even though line markings were still clearly visible.
