Petrova is more likely to be

1) healthy
and therefor
2) in the Sf

now shes more likely to lose inthe SF should she get there, but at least she'll be there

I would not bet on Sharapova if she plays Hingis on the red dirt, i can´t really see Maria running down drop shots and lobs on it :p
Honestly i don´t see Dementieva, Schnyder or Mary winning Roland Garros. Dementieva won´t not that she is not capable, but its improbable that she can produce that kind of dominant tennis that she rarely plays is the second week of a major til the end.
Schnyder does not have the game, and neither the mind set to win a grand slam. She could get to the semis at most, but i don´t see her upsetting any of the top players to reach a final.
Mary has the desite but phisically i dont see her competing against the likes of Henin, Clijsters and top notch Venus and Serena on clay. The best slam for Mary to win could be the Usopen.

OMG Justne is running away in this poll. :worship:

And she has hardly anything to defend after RG!:woohoo:

Mar 9th, 2006, 10:08 PM
At this point I only see four real contenders

JHH
Kim
Momo
Elena D.

Sharapova and Lindsay imo wil never win at RG. Hingis will lose to any of the four players mentioned above so i see her making the SF at best. Mary is not the same as last year and will lose early

Of course Henin Hardenne is at the top of the list. Really, I think only 4 players can win in my book:

1. Henin-Hardenne obviously
2. Clijsters
3. Mauresmo
4. Pierce

The rest in the top ten really have no shot at winning the French.

it's too hard to say now - Henin could easily be injured by the time RG comes around; Venus could get motivated and find her range and will capable of dusting anyone.

Even though i'd put money on Schnyder to beat Sharapova or Davenport at RG i would still probably say they are more likely to win it.

I'm pretty sure the winner will be one of these:

1)Henin
2)Clijsters

But with an outside chance (support could lift them...):

3)Mauresmo
4)Pierce

I wouldn't back any of the other top 10 players.

Martina however... no-one wants it more than her and, believe it or not, she'll get some great support even in Paris! And don't we need someone to carry on the list of consecutive different GS winners?

aime
Mar 10th, 2006, 08:21 AM
ok, so.. JHH - first chance, then changesto...Amelie (although she said RG is the slam where the surface suits her the less ) Kim, Dementieva,Petrova, Schnyder(clay is their surface), Mary (her history at RG)...
I really doubt Sharapova could make it...same for Lindsay or Venus.

PLP
Mar 10th, 2006, 09:03 AM
 It is unbelievable to me that most people have not put Martina Hingis in their top 10 :fiery: . I want to believe that perhaps most of you are too young to remember how well she plays on clay...it's in her blood...I can't even think of 10 players who have the possiblity to win it!!! (Venus??Lindsay???)

Anyway...deepbreathe...
1. Justine
2. Martina
3. Amelie
4. Kim
5. Mary
6. Nadia/Elena (darkhorses)

I really hope that Amelie remembers who she is and has a good run this year at RG as she has never played well there. I hope Kim's body holds up to the clay and that Mary screws her head on straight that fortnight.
If they are on opposite sides of the draw I expect to see a Justine/Martina clash in the final.

Martina isn´t an option. Borisy wanted us to rank the ones currently in the top ten.

But by just reading the title I also got the impression you could choose your top 10 among all players.

You bet??I don't think think Petrova could beat Sveta Venus Jenny and Elena D consecutively..Say all you want but Myskina's draw was extremly difficult. Moreover she had to beat Molik in the first round,so...

To all the Petrova comments: She's always stable... and if she had Myskina's draw of 2004 she would win it.
To be honest i dont think Myskina's draw was easy just the last 3 players (vee, capriati and lena) she played all played bad tennis with Myskina playing reasonably well in all 3 except the semi which she prob would have one anyway. If Petrova had Myskina's draw at Roland Garros 04 she prob wouldnt even got to the quaters and i dnt think lena would fold to Nadia for some reason

Henin-Hardenne looks like the one to beat, but her health is always a question. If she gets injured, who knows what can happen? Also, she was down match point last year to Kuznetsova so she's not invincible on the clay.

I'd say Henin will will the French if her health remains high, but you never know. Same with Clijsters.

I love Mauresmo, but I think she'll go out early again.

Hingis could win if the Belgians aren't healthy.

Also, why are people talking about Mary Pierce being likely to win? She's been absolutely terrible so far this year.

bunch of nay sayers! It will be Hingis or Clijsters or Henin or Amelie. Those are my top 4 - not in any particular order.......I give Venus a chance if she is playing some clay events prior and is focused. Okay - those are my top 5.

I don't like Lindsay on clay - and she did say she was skipping the clay season at this point in her career ( I read that somewhere). Of course we all know she may CHANGE her mind, (as she would be retired by now if she stuck to original statements).
