I became Martina's fan, because I like her game style. Also she is good-looking. And you?

I first saw this feature on matina at the aussie open, in 1997 i think. They showed her rollerblading through Melbourne and had an interview with her. I hadn't seen her play before but thats when she became my favourite.

i first started watching serena in 1998 i think as an eighth grader and she just INSTANTLY struck a cord with me. she's so inspiring to me in so many ways and i know there is great things for her to come in the future, whether people choose to believe it or not.

I became a fan of Daniela watching her play at the 2003 US Open. There was just something about her so I kept following her and I turned in to a die-hard fan. :p

I became a Martina fan during that infamous RG final against Graf...Going into it I was hugely supporting Graf, who I had loved for so many years and was very excited when she started to turn things around but then Steffi ignored the Mark which was on the backend of the line and instead of Hingis being up 15-love she was down love-30 :fiery: I started to feel disgusted with everyone BUT Martina...and things went downhill from there. Then when she had to be escorted back on the court by her mom and she was so fragile and shattered it just broke my heart...I vowed then and there to support Martina no matter what...I was also glad when Daveport beat Steffi at Wimbledon that year...Karma much?

I'm a fan of Misa because she's Dutch....well, half-Dutch anyway...
She plays for Holland and that's what's counts right?

Anyway, we haven't exactly been spoiled with top 100 players over here...

i first started liking kuznetsova after wimbledon 2003-i didnt see her play any singles matches even though she reached the quarters, but when she was playing doubles with navratilova sveta just couldnt do anything right, and for some reason that made me love her.
then i saw her play well and i was blown away-especially by her forehand :worship:

i've always liked serena for her attitude on court and off, i love the way she says shes the best (which she is) and yet she's still very respectful of other players-she's an absolute legend.

I became a fan of Tennis and Jennifer Capriati @ the 2001 French Open Final.

I only got to see the final set, but it was the first tennis I ever watched. Since then I'm an addict and play 5-6 times a week!

Why i'm a fan of Jennifer is because she fought so hard in the 3rd set. She didn't play her best but she never gave up!! :)

I'd been an on and off tennis fan and recreational player since I was a kid, the days of Rod Laver & John Newcomb. I led a pretty normal, balanced life. I established myself in a stable career, made life-long friends and started a family with the love of my life.

Then I saw Anastasia Myskina and looked into her eyes. Now, I have no will of my own. I am but a drone serving a higher power. My life is guided by an unseen hand. I will drink the Kool-Aid. I must drink the Kool-Aid.

I think Justine's game pretty much sum's up why I'm a fan :D.

I first started watching tennis since Wimbledon of 2003. Back then, I only watched some matches from time to time, mainly of the Grand Slam types. Justine's matches always intrigued me. I love her attitude on court. Quiet, yet always calculating. I love that she's dedicated and such a fierce fighter. Of course, she's got an all-round great game and a killer backhand.

Since I started watching tennis so late, I never became a fan of Martina Hingis, although I am starting to really like her as well.

i'm a fan of several players as listed on my signature ;)

Among all Russians, Kuzy is my fava because i like her style and that she played with Na Li in Beijing Oct.2004, and said she felt like playing with a top5! Nice to hear that!

It was not long after Na back to WTA tournment after two years of absence. I became Li Na's fan since then, bcs of her great talent and the big pity of the stupid retirement:o(she went to University)!! Now i'm happy she's back

I was a fan of Venus before 2000, but after watching her win Wimbledon for her first time in 2000, I was instantly hooked! I can't really put my finger on it, but I love her style! She is such a power house, yet quiet and stoic...and now more than ever, she has an all around game....SHE JUST NEEDS TO PLAY MORE!!!!! :)

Sophie Ferguson for the following reasons

- she's an Aussie
- she got a real killer versatile backhand
- most powerful topspin hitter
- love the way she serves
- I really love her own style of games!!
- she is very young and mature between matches!

She became my favourite player when i watched her in Sydney by taking a set off from Magdalena Maleeva! Also won a grand slam match against Nuria Llagocsteria Vives and then in second round - she pushed Nadia Petrova to three sets after taking a first one!
She was too strong against Nadia in the first (also very powerful)

Because of her sweetness and her respect towards others...she is PURE CLASS. The way she conducts herself on and off the court is unlike any other top athlete. You can't measure Amys self being with an endorsment or a clothing contract. She knows who she is without all that. She is within herself and that is to be respected and admired.

Thank you, Thank you :bounce:

I was a fan of Martina instantly from the first time i saw her play, which was at the Sydney International in 2000 (one of the early rounds, i don't remember her opponent). At the beginning of the match her bio came up on the screen, and i was amazed at how much she had achieved and she was only 19! I watched her all through the summer up until the Australian Open final, when she lost to Lindsay :( Her matches, her interviews, i just thought she was such an amazing player, and over 6 years later i'm still a huge fan :D

when she was 16 I thought she would be the next great player.
I like a game made up of movement as well as power.
outstanding offence and defence.
she has a great personality. almost tooooo nice.

Justin Henin
all around game like kim
But plays better than her body should allow her.
very special accomplishments

Maria Sharapova
new kid on the block.
I wish she had not grown so much somewhat hampering her mobility.
an immigrant like me.

Nicole Vaidisova
Thought when I saw her play three years ago that she could be the next great.
However I will have to settle for a top player sometimes.

oh yes
Martina Hingis one of the true greats.
She plays tennis the way it should be played from an ideal point of point.
A ten for style.
However all that really counts in a game is winning fairly.
She did that at the Youngest age ever. period

Martina was just a kiddo when she reached the QF(?) in the AO in 1996.. I was fascinated cos she reached the QF at 15 yrs when most of the players are still in the juniors. I started following her matches and since ve become a huge fan.

I joined this forum only cos of Martina's comeback so i could follow her matches since it is not Live in India..MARTINA IS GREAT:worship:

I loved Masha because of her hard hitting power game i just love seeing her just blast the ball, I love her beauty, her fashion sense on and off the court, her girlie voice and giggle and her fighting spirit on the court, she is just an amazing girl. I first became i fan @ the AO 2003 when i saw her play live in person as a little youngster and became a huge fan by Wimbledon 2003. I also like that she has off court interests so even when she is not playing tennis she still features in Magazines or in the news.

I became a fan of ELena because she is not a hyped up commercial product ,she does not have a nasty bone in her body ,she speaks her mind ,she is not arrogant and doesnt behave like a jumped up Prima donna ,I love her game style ,because she struggles on serve she has to PLAY points and no one moves like she does ,its poetry in motion. She combines mega power with superb athletcism and will not give up under any circumstances ,shes basically a lovely girl and the WTA needs a few moer like her ,she has a great character too ,those cute squeals!!!

Jen-Because i loved her fighting spirit and the way she never gives up.
Amelie-Because her game is a joy to watch and because she is an extremely classy and genuine person.
Patty-Because when her game is on its amazing to watch.
Sveta-Because she's such a nice person
Alicia-same as above, after the sveta doping story came out before the ozzy open last year i saw an amazing interview with alicia where she said that she'd gone into a store in the morning bought all the papers there and thrown them away, the way she stuck up for sveta was honourable and she is a truly class act.

I became a true fan of Venus' in 2004 :o I watched her play against Conchita Mrtinez. I felt so sorry for her because those awful commentators were bashin her constantly claiming that she hasn't won a title in like 15 months :help: I just loved how she played... Power, her jumps, her awkward shots.. :hearts:

I became a fan of Serena's at the Wimbledon. Her fight was just so unreal, and when that anorexic girl beat her at Wimbledon, I was so disheartened  But anyways.. I still havn't gotten over that :o

I became a fan of Myskina's when I saw her pound Masha in the floor. I became and even bigger fan when she lost to Serena after being up a set and a double brea   What I was most impressed by, was the fact that she was able to be so nice to Serena after losing such a heart-breaking match

but since her gold coast championships at the begining of 05 i backed her all the way i tryed to stay up when ever she was playing to get the live results off the net as i dont have fox, but when i do get to watch her i just love how shes got this awsome serve and volley aggresive type of play and can run down nearly every shot

and when shes of the courts she is such a nice person she isnt the type of player to have no care in her fans like some players, she takes the time out to go online and chat to her fans, and be happy to sign things or have photos taken, shes just such a lovely character, and a good fit looker to =)

even though Jennifer beat marty in the next two aussie finals i became a die hard fan of hers in 01 - to be honest i hadnt known anything about her background but when I saw a programme about her I just felt inspired and she has such determination and ana amazing fighting spirit and great personality - alos love seeing justine winning the french open especially after hearing how her mother had brought her to RG and that she said she d win it one day!

When Steffi retired in 1999. i lost my interest in tennis. i was looking for a player who could wake up that interest back in me. then one day it happened. I first became a fan of elena dementieva in 2000. i saw her play davenport in IW( on tv only!). i may write a thousand reasons. she looked so innocent and yet determined to win. even when she lost she looked calm and composed. so on.

Your reasons aren't "shitty" or "dumbass" and I'm disgusted that someone would be so rude to you. There's no excuse for that.
It's natural that in a sport dominated by white players, the Williams sisters would appeal to a young, black person. It's a matter of affinity, of identifying with someone with whom you feel something in common.
I guess I don't know that much about the Williams sisters rise to fame in pro tennis. Did they really face obstacles in the tennis world? I know they ran into racism; rude behavior on the part of some players and fans, but actual obstacles such as those faced by earlier black players? I know what players like Oscar Johnson and Althea Gibson (there was a hell of a woman!) faced in the '40's and '50's. I admire those people tremendously for their courage and tenacity. You want to talk about obsticales...wow! I guess I consider those players, along with the great Arthur Ashe, to be the ones who opened the doors.
Regardless, good luck with your aspirations to become a pro player! I hope you make a ton of money and lot's of friends.

The first match ever that I saw was final rg 2001 between Kim and Jennifer. Why, because I was at a studenthome then and all the other wanted to see Kim, I live in Limburg so verry close to where Kim lives.

Then I became a fan of Kim. Then a week after I watched the final between Justine and kim at Rosmalen. There I also started to love that other belgian girl. Then I became a fan of both.

But I dont know where, but it all turned. I did not like Kim that mutch anymore and Justine, well, she became in my heart 4ever.

I think because a lot of people here hate Justine I started to love her even more. Sometimes it is hard to be a Justinefan here in Limburg but I try to stay focus just on Justine. And yes, sometimes I have actualy fights about Justine and Kim. It makes me sick OOh, Kim is so mutch bether, ooh, Justine is a real bitch, ooh, you are not really a Limburger, ........ If Justine loses people on my work laugh with me whole week. Our even take a picture of Justine looking sade and put this in my locker. But you know what, how more they do it, how more i realise how much I love Justine :)

You know I dont hate Kim, really I dont, but sometimes I just wish that she loses just so I can laugh back :)

I became a fan of Jennifer's becasue I loved her never say die fighting sprit and then Jennifer went and took time off for three years and had no one to watch so I was watching the tennis during the aussie summer of 94 and saw Lindsay playing in the Brisbane final against Labat and I never thought I would find a player who plays the same way Jennifer does. I've been hooked on Lindsay ever since and another reason I admire her is for her grace in victory and defeat doesn't have a bad word to say about anybody. I hope Jennifer can come back from her shoulder injury and get back to her 2001 - 2002 form too.

Thank you darling! It's great to see people can see in a different view. There are always to sides, and you demonstrate that you, unlike some people on this board, can look from another person's perspective.Thank you very muxh :hearts: :hearts: This is like one of the nicest things a eprson has said to me

This is the honest-to-God reason why I became a fan of Martina Hingis. At first, she was just another player to me who was new and was rousing interest. I decided to get her autograph at a tournament. But Martina snubbed me! (What!? How dare she do that!?) I now know first-hand that reverse psychology does indeed work because I was then forever determined to get her autograph. The second time, I actually got the chance to meet her in person and she was much nicer and more talkative. Persistance paid off in the end and I was forever hooked on Martina Hingis. She treated me mean and kept me keen, the evil bitch. ;)

I've been a fan of Kim Clijsters for some time now... I believe I first noticed her at Roland Garros 2001 against Capriati in the famous final... because we Dutchies haven't really been spoiled with top players I thought well Kim speak Flemisch/Dutch... :P She was the clear underdog in the match and I loved the way she fought and knew she would be very good. After that match I kind of lost interest in tennis a bit in 2001 and 2002 because of the dominance of Serena (winning 3/4 GS), I want competition :P. In 2003 though tennis changed in a big way as a sport, and I watched women's tennis more and more. After 2002 dominance from Serena, 2003 was the year when Kim and Justine made their official rise to the top with especially Justine challenging Serena for the GS titles, most notably the RG 2003 (Enough said) SF. It is partly thanks to Serena for this as she really raised the bar in 2002/2003. US Open 2003 was the offical end of Serena's reign and saw a first all-Belgian final with Justine coming out on top, too bad for Kim. Justine showed signs she would be the new WTA queen in early 2004, replacing Serena but both her and Kim got seriously injured and 2004 was one of the worst tennis years with, besides Australian Open success for the Belgians, Serena, Venus, Kim and Justine playing poor during the big Russian Revolution. I was upset both Belgians but especially Kim got so seriously injured as I was hoping for some real Williams-Belgian rivelry. It sure was a great year for Russia's tennis but at that point not for the fans with some poor finals. How great was the fact that 2005 was one of the best years ever for WTA and fans seeing all their favorites Kim, Justine, Serena and Venus back challenging each other (Williams-Belgian rivelry had finally started to take shape) along with other tough competitors such as Lindsay, Amelie, rennaisance of Mary P and the Russian army led by Maria. It was in 2005 that I became more and more a fan of Kim after her spirited fight back after 2004 misery and her win at US Open 2005 was soo beautiful to watch and so deserved, great for all fans around the world but especially me. Keep on going Kim!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why it's very simple...when I lost my dad, i didn't talk didn't smile for about six months and one day I turned on the tv, it was RG, the commentators talked about a young and talented french player they said her name is Mary Pierce (they said it with an american accent) i told to myself this is not a french name and i started to watch her play (a miracle because at this time I hated tennis) it was the semi against Steffy...and well for the first time in so long i smiled and started to live again....12 years later I'm still a huge Mary's fan because she simply gave me another life.

   love you mary

I became Martina's fan, because I like her game style. Also she is good-looking. And you?

I judge them on class, poise and the x factor which is why none of my favorites are Americans except Ashley.
